I'm jogging along at my standard rate although I do get a flurry one day and then nothing for a few days which always feels strange.

I have delisted a large number of books though and am trying to bring some order to my stock. I have decided to start with some of th eolder books and recheck them and if they are off the wall rating wise just pass them on.I am taking much more notice of the ratings now and I seem to have cracked it a bit. However, I still can't buy a lone book 'on sight' the moment I see a certainty I just know it will crash and burn, yet I still get tempted sometimes and then end up with books at £1 with no ranking (sigh) I just won't learn. I am much better buying in bulk and then zipping through and discarding all the ones that are poorly ranked or too cheap.

I've done a massive delist to occupy the time not spent in going to the PO. This is the longest dry spell I've had since I started.

Even a small flurry would be exciting.

I keep all my straight 'POP's' for around a year, but any till receipts that I am using as POP's I intend to keep for 6 years in case the tax man audits me.

boston_uk you might want to wait for some more responses as I think I tend towards being over cautious :p

  • Hm - well looking stuff up I think I am gonna do 3 months as that is the deadline for A-Z - just in case - though if they don't tell me before then they haven't rec'd the book they are pulling a fast one anyway I think!

    Anyone know different?
  • Hi Boston,

My sales are terrible this month, after a good January  . I use my POPs as receipts too in my accounts, so I keep them all with my tax records - I think its 7 years you need to keep them - I'm sure someone in the know will tell us soon. I could do with being able to 'out' some of mine for space too!

Soolin - I have downsized my stock in much the way you have - got rid of cheap stuff with no or very low ratings. I now have room for some more stock! I have my eye on some more to go too. Although, I said Feb has been awful, I don't think it is due to my stock reduction at all, just the rub of the green as it were. I am also taking much more note of the ratings when I list and am not bothering with high ratings stuff - unless it is worth a fortune (supposedly) - and then it only gets so long sat in my shed before it has got to go! I am more than happy with penny books (and good ratings) - providing they are in very good condiiton and I haven't paid much for them!

I am working on getting my hands on a bulk load of books - the only thing is a pallet is far more than I can cope with space wise, so I am having to be creative - off to chat to a neighbour tomorrow and see if I can pinch some of her garage space :T

Best of luck with everyones sales for March

By the way is anyone else having problems getting on to the Amazon discussion boards?

I can get onto the boards although there are reports of the system playing up again, some of the bigger sellers are reporting a glitch over the weekend that meant people couldn't actually purchase books, and I certainly didn't have any sales on Saturday or Sunday which are usually good days for me.

I've listed loads more books these last couple of weeks to replace the ones I junked. Some were very high in the ranking, hundreds only and while I have sold a couple many that I would have expected to sell (one at 231 in the rankings) are still here.

Luckily I have already covered my pro merchant fees which I calculate to be 30 sales, and still have 10 days to go in this chargeable period.

Started selling on Amazon on the 10/2/08

I have had a good start (imo)

    Total sales 9

    Total value £156.00

    Total fees £34.98

    Approx £121.00 including postage fees.

I would guess I have made £10/£11 profit per book.

Considering I get all my books from car boot sales and I do not pay

more than 10p per book,I am very happy.

I did go pro merchant a year or two back, and that was okay. But I found that I listed anything and everything, just to try and justify a pro merchant status to myself (if that makes any sense ?),I also found it not fantastic on sales.

Anyway this time round I am trying to be more choosey, and I'm listing books that range in price from £5.00 upto £55.00,but mainly in the £15-£25 bracket.I'm under no pressure as I have no fixed monthly fee,I realise I pay higher fees but I take this into account when deciding my pricing.

I look on the assumption that I would rather pay £4.00 in fees after a book has sold for £18-£22 whatever it is, than pay 25p in fees and it not sell at £12.00,and ends up sitting on the shelf month after month.

One thing I never do is get personally attatched to the value of an item.If you see several books priced at £25.00 upwards per book,I would definetaly price the book at £21.99 or similar.I know there is a chance of price matching off other sellers, but on the whole this tactic seems to work.

Any how I'd be interested on any advice the pro sellers can give us all....thanks.
