dolly84, carefully read the conditions on the ticket; there are weight and size limits to your luggage. Share as much as possible with dd regarding toothpaste, shower gel, etc.
Rome is lovely, but large. If you want to visit the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel (sp?), get there early and bring something to cover your shoulders and knees (and maybe head, I don't remember).
Bring a refillable water flask, preferably thermos (it needs to be empty on the plane; check if they will allow you to bring it with you, empty). Small water bottles are awfully expensive there.
Have fun!
Thank you.
Not much going on here today, have nipped into town with DD and spent money, am doing my online grocery shop in a moment and then am taking DD to the orthodontist - hate going there as they keep you waiting 45 minutes some times.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Definitely not NSD today - bought DS1 3 x jeans and 1 x shoes - and lunch! So still 9
Simplicity - time spent just DS1 and I - unusual occurrence!
Persevere - planted some plants I dug up from my nan's garden
Reduce - Got rid of 2 bags of old clothes/ linens to HnM (used the resulting 2 x £5 vouchers towards the cost of 3 x jeans + 1 x socks)
Invest - the planting. And am going to try and sneak in 30 min nap now before collecting DS2 from after school activity!I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Tiring day but not spent any money and progress on the health front. Taxi picked us both up and took us to the doctor's before nine (had set alarm for 7 am but woke at 6 and was too terrified to go back to sleep. There were 8 people before us in the queue to see our favourite doctor (if he gets any more popular people will be camping out the night before like the Boxing Day sales).
Despite having long chats with
a) partner's eldest son and his wife
b) woman she was at school with and her son who's a friend of one of her cousins
c) ex wife of another of her cousins
D) woman who I think she knew from dancing, that we met on the way out
mum started to get fed up and mutter about how long we had been waiting.
When it was our turn (booked an appointment each for us) mum's x-rays show substantial arthritis in her hands, fingers, wrists and shoulders. Asked if there were any exercises she could do like squeezing a ball (might help) and said again that she can't have ibruprofen (possible damage to kidneys and liver and already taking at least 2 other medications that do the same) - she can have ibruprofen gel :j:j:j as it's only applied to the problem areas.
Went through yesterday's appointment
a) blood to be taken every six weeks but we are happy to come into the infirmary phlebotomy department to have this done (will pick a mid-week latish afternoon when it's quiet), confirmed that it was okay to use the form we already had (can pick another up before the second lot in 12 weeks time)
b) mum has slipped up with one lot of pills but I can sort it
c) reducing dose of one pill which means an increase in pills prescribed (was 9.5 which was 2 x 5mg one day and 1 5mg and 4 1mg on alternate days - going down to 9mg which means we need the 4 x 1mg each day
Doctor gave us a prescription to cover the new dose immediately - great relief as I've had to chase round after it the last 3 months - and the ibruprofen gel
The blood test I needed to see him about was the Vitamin D one and I'm going to be kept on the maintaining dose when I've finished the higher loading dose - this is good as it's a great help with my depression and boosts my energy levels as well as not being able to get enough Vit D naturally because my body can't cope with the sun (higher dose than standard commercial supplements). He's added it to my list of repeat medication so I only need to phone up and order it when I need it.
Also told him about the arch supports and asked about my repeat x-ray (should have received an appointment letter). I now have a letter that I present to the department and get x-rayed there and then. Very good because I already have 3 appointments and one funeral the week it's due to be done so I can push the x-ray in wherever it will fit.
I have received a letter referring me to the sleep clinic (doesn't say whether I have sleep apnoea or not) and an initial appointment.
Collected prescriptions, had a taxi back to mum's. Done a partial sort of her medicine drawer (still have the ones from yesterday at my house). Rearranged the ones she hasn't been taking correctly and put a few of each in one box and written on the lid (she should be taking 2 different dosages of the same medication but they look very different - one is orange and turquoise capsules and the other is a plain brown lozenge type - both now together in a small box which says take one of each).
Ate mum's food. Ate chocolate cake. I have been very good. Could not fit everything in the freezer when last week's delivery came so left chocolate fudge cake in the fridge and said mum and the cleaner could have it - mum wouldn't eat it on Good Friday but they could both have some on Saturday. But they didn't! I've been there from Saturday until yesterday and offered mum some cake but not had any myself and it's till sitting there - so I've had some (resisting it for a week is good enough, the willpower should have burnt off the calories).
Cooked some sausages that needed using by tomorrow (will be frozen in small quantities) and brought home some cooked meat, small pack of wraps, the remaining dips and a bottle of fizzy water.
Tomorrow will be an attempt at knocking part of the house back into shape and Friday is exercise class and cinema club. Had to come home as I'd taken all the pills out of my bag this morning and my arm was starting to nag.
Today I am grateful for a few solutions/ steps forward, for mum having people to chat to in the doctor's surgery and for free food.My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
Glad to hear about the ibu gel for your mum, mothernerd. You got an awful lot sorted with the dr - well done you.
Today I am grateful for only working a half day, for mild weather, for quick and easy lunch + tea, for my slow cooker, for dd clearing another shelf of books (seems impossible that the pile on the floor ever fitted on the shelf too), for an offer of some clothes for dd, for dh getting a pay rise, for having just enough wool to finish a 2nd sock, for my memories.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Not a nsd - I had to buy a couple of £1 bags of chocolate as prizes for my Year 7 class. Other than that a busy and productive day at work (albeit frustrating).
I am grateful to have gotten home to a tidy house and food already planned for dinner. Also grateful for a decent sleep last night which has helped me get through today. Not giving up

Time to take back control

Hi all :j
Simplicity - think about the simple pleasures in your life which you really appreciate, friendship, family, cake. Focus on those this month as much as you can (maybe not too much cake though). Visit from friendly robin as I was cutting the grass.
Persevere - I know that trying to reach your goal can sometimes seem never ending but try to remember that each time you waste money/time it can take you further away from what you really want for the long term. Did go out with DD to shops as she wanted to practice driving, therefore small spends.
Reduce - I wouldn't be me if I wasn't asking you to reduce. Think about what you really need and what will be left at the end, is there a better way to consume. Leftovers for lunch and supper, happy days.
Invest - in yourself, your family, your home - the things that really matter to you. Lots of investment of time today in the garden & DH blasting the driveway, he has some stuff to put on it that he says will make it last a bit longer. Good job as replacing would cost a small fortune.
New - new month, new beginning. Don't look back at past mistakes and failures, there is nothing that can be done about them, learn from them and move on. Rarely look back - & when/if I do it's as if that stuff happened to someone else, which of course I was then. I'm stupidly optimistic..
Grab - take life by the horns. Do something which takes you outside of your comfort zone at least once this month. Now making a new sweater that is definitely out of my comfort zone. Let's see how that goes. So far so good, but only on the first sleeve. More challenges to come. Finally spent some time getting dishwasher out, but not fitted or even unpacked as yet. Hopefully friend will be able to lend a hand tomorrow.
NSDs: still 12/15
NO spending in coffee shops, work canteens, vending machines. If you do it needs to be planned in advance and budgeted for. Never go in coffee shops, no canteen, don't use vending machines either. But I still waste money! Small shopping spend again today.
