just called 3, slightly frustrating phone call.

according to them mobile affiliates (aka cnm) are still an active dealer with them and they said to call them up. i naturally pointed them in the direction of the website. cs took my details and said it would take up to 4 weeks to get a resolution.

in the meantime i'm not able to downgrade my tariff, so i'm stuck with my expensive £45 a month tariff for the next couple of months.

very annoying, but i'm not blaming 3.

  • I didn't have to barter either. It is JUST 6 days since the collapse - if they had managed to do ANYTHING faster than they have they'd have needed a Tardis.

Just think about THIS for a minute. Before they went bust (Thursday in effect) would anyone have really believed that in a week's time the company would have gone into administration BUT that people were ALREADY having line rentals reduced by Vodafone to just £5? Raise you hands ALL those who WOULD have settled for that before the event, should it happen? I was hoping that would happen when I heard last Thursday - but even I hadn't expected to achieve it THAT fast. It may not be perfect but I think it's at least as good as anyone can really expect - no matter how angry they are with the world.

Although they will probably make money in the long run because of the goodwill some of us will allow them as a result of this (as opposed to the goodwill some dealers dish out as a substitute for valid cashback claims nowadays) I honestly cannot see them doing anything but lose money on this as an event. Quentin, would you rather be with 3 or T-Mobile right now? I know I wouldn't! They are hanging onto every penny. As soon as Vodafone offered half price people on here were grabbing it; I advised them several times not to. It was far too soon and there were precedents but it does take SOME time! I undertsand and accept cashback deals for what they are. I know the risks and I play the game. Vodafone are offering remaining line rental at one seventh of the price. You could also cancel (but there is a notice period at full price if you do). I have been told by cpw that networks pay all the commission upfront at the start of a contract. I have no way of knowing if this is true or whetehr they reclaim it if a contract is terminated early. However, someone who gets 500 minutes, 250 texts and possibly Stop The Clock and Passport for £35 a month AND a top of the range brand new, unlocked phone seems to me to be getting a reasonable deal compared with the alternatives. If they take a risk and go for it all totally free then that is their choice; many won't take that risk if their lives depended on it. To now have one network willing to offer the same deal at the equivilent of £60 for a year in my book is fantastic. Of course it won't be that little for most - but will be close for a few. It may be a broad brush but it's a welcome one.
  • I have just been reading the article on cashback schemes which was written by Martin Lewis and can be found in the link at the top of this page under 'Best Buy Articles - Mobile Phone Cost Cutting'.

To all those who said that Martin should in some way be partly responsible for this mess I would refer you to read this article. He simply highlights what its all about but does not specifically endorse it. In fact, he says....

'The cashback deal is with the retailer, the tariff with the network. Even if it goes wrong you still keep the tariff with the network. Sadly cashback retailers can and do go bust; if they do, it’ll be tough to recoup'

    Definitely an article worth reading

hey, im on voda, do u think ishould call them agin or wait for a call..
if i should call what shouold i say? i usually get fobbed of with excuses!

No harm in calling them again on 191 as it doesn't cost anything. I have just phoned Vodafone and have been told that they are in the process in contacting everyone and that if I didn't hear anything within two weeks, I should contact them again (I have also contacted BBC Watchdog and hope that they might mention something on next week's programme if enough people complain) - this information is contrary to that a colleague received, so it depends on who you speak to. It's worth a try.

  • Is there a specific number for Vodafone customers to ring to request a line rental reduction.

PIN re the above, 3 tried that nonsense with me last week (see webref below); they are well aware that CNM are in liquidation and should not have tired to fob you off like that.

Also Re Mazars, they flipped me off today:

Call them from your mobile on 191. They will not put you through to the department dealing with all this, they will take your details. I do believe they are calling everyone concerned anyway. Be patient and you should receive a call

Dial 191 from your phone. Then I think it is option 2 and then 4 for disconnections. Nice lady said she will arrange for someone to call me back within 3 working days.

Might have been said before, anyone wih Vodafone that wants a re-assessment should ring and register.

I am almost into month 8/9 of my contract so should be in their interst for them to offer me £5/month if they want to retain me as a customer going forwards, fingers crossed!!

Thanks for that Termin8tor. I just called them for the second time and they registered me for this callback 'within three working days'. The first time I called I spoke to a very nice guy who had never heard anything about the whole mess. He went through internally to the Connections Department who told him they didn't know anything about it and wouldn't be able to talk to me direct.
Following your advice I tried again and the person I spoke to this time seemed to know what I was talking about and had just come off phone to another guy who had the same story...
