    Hi everyone

Thanks for all the welcomes back you lovely bunch :D

DNMS – thanks for starting us off. I’d love to see your sewing. That’s exciting that you’ve started selling stuff too. Niiiice! :T

I haven’t brought lunch to work this morning so need to think about that one…

I checked banking and reconciled YNAB.

Bought 2 bits for baby on FB marketplace – saved myself about a hundred quid!

Got lots of lovely gifts for baby from family. I'm not planning on buying any clothes tbh:)

Decided not to get my hair cut this week as it’s actually sitting quite nice this morning so I can probably leave it a couple of weeks more.

Dyed my hair myself so I definitely don’t need to start doing that at the hair dressers…

No take aways this weekend – leftovers on Sat and food from stores on Sun. Need to get a shop in soon though…

M&D gave us money for the house/getting things ready for baby (new carpets and wardrobes mainly) – great, we’ll get what we need (hopefully cheap…) and put the rest of it in savings as I’m sure it’ll come in handy while on mat leave – but mum has no money sense and is now obsessed with how we are spending it and wants us to buy ‘everything we want’ and then let her know how much everything costs so she can make sure we spend it all. This is stressing me out! In 6 months’ time it may make sense to spend it on our mortgage payment so why can’t we just keep it in savings!! Basically anything we spend will be told to her as more expensive so she can imagine we’ve spent it all! Her logic ‘When baby’s here you will be spending all your money on baby and won’t be able to buy yourself anything so you need to buy everything you need now’… Erm, how about we save money now and then we won’t run out when baby arrives rather than spending for the sake of spending (e.g getting someone in to paint the room rather than us painting ourselves...! Ridiculous!)?! Imagine ranting about getting a gift of money?! I am very grateful but her money logic stresses me out. She’s so happy when we spend money and the sad thing is that I can remember when she paid off her catalogue debt and how happy she was so she should understand it…

Dnms, Thank you for the new thread. Sounds like exciting times for you and I agree with Dawn about making sure you price your time properly, I've a friend who hasn't and is struggling now that she is trying to put her prices up.

    Morning Campers,
Nice to log on this morning & read everyone's news. I could do with a good week. Hugely busy at the weekend & next week, so my best move this week is to keep up to date with everything on the home front & even get myself ahead a bit, if I can. Today's list of frugalities:
*Laundry done on timer overnight for Economy 7 tariff plus 1 x 30 mins at 30 degrees wash this morning (I find that is ample to get little things like socks, etc, clean)- all pegged out drying for free in the gales. Washer set on timer for same again tonight.
*Windows in conservatory cracked for a couple of hours instead of switching dehumidifyer on.
*Make bread - will shortly be putting it on its 2nd proving.
*Printed off latest survey voucher & updated my signature as I like to keep a tally.
*Did 2 Prolific surveys (over £7 earned for the two, as long as they verify ok)
*Leftover chilli on jackets for tonight.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch & snacks.
*Do post-weekend budget update & banking.
*Input new broadband amount on budget spreadsheet (mr f managed to get a more realistic deal from the provider's retentions team).
    *Knit
    *Update my dfw diary
*Checked for Amaz*n seller refund - yes, it's there. Saga finished at last!
    *Sort out strawberry plants.
*Continue my extremely low spend re-do of our back courtyard - looking good so far. Hoping I can turn out & replant some big pots myself this afternoon, but if my poorly hand hurts too much, I'll have to wait until the resident 'free muscle' has a day off.
*Check out some details re next weekend's plans - have paid most costs upfront, but want to avoid silly extras arising from silly avoidable things like forgetting to pack gloves, not taking a packed breakfast, filling up car with non-motorway service station price petrol instead of cheaper petrol before we go, etc.
*Free fitness today will be the aerobics I now do while waiting for the coffee machine to brew, a brisk walk to the post box & hopefully lots of useful gardening. Am doing a Fitbit steps challenge with mr f this week. I can't possibly get ahead today as the crafty devil left the car at home & went to work on the bus, so as to include a long walk to & from town at each end of the day. Hmmm. I think I will lull him into a false sense of security today, then aim really to give it some welly tomorrow when he drives in, then has a day sitting at his desk.
*Last of cut-open tube of moisturiser used up this morning, also currently using free sample of hand cream.
*Think what to do with pot of coconut oil I bought. I wanted a multi-use inexpensive product I could use for my hair, elbows, feet, etc, but it is so absolutely rock solid, I find it pretty much impossible to use. I could warm it up in a small bowl, but I'm not really looking for that much faff, so I'll continue thinking.
OK, time to go & bash the bread dough up for its final proving.
    Cheers all,
    F x

Foxgloves I find if I leave my coconut oil out in the kitchen it's fine, but if it's in the cupboard it's rock solid. Guess it depends on the temp of your rooms, airing cupboard or greenhouse?? An option or just on a windowsill in a sunny spot :D

Coconut oil changes from liquid to solid easily. When it is below about 70F/21C coconut oil starts to turn to a white solid state. The quality and characteristics of coconut oil remain the same, whether liquid or solid. Heating should not alter its characteristics or decrease its 'beneficial effects'. It can be returned to a liquid state by warming up the jar by placed in a bowl of warm water or by heating the oil in a pan on the stove.

  • If you mix coconut oil with a little bit of a lighter oil, like olive, it'll stay soft down to refrigeration temperatures - same principle as spreadable butter being butter mixed with vegetable oil. Might be a bit of an interesting fragrance, though.

    Hello :hello:
This is going to be a short one from me as the posts on here are so lovely, and positive, and progressive and I'm in such a foul, grumpy and miserable mood :rotfl: I have no idea why other than to say that I'm not sleeping well again and I can't seem to get it sorted.
Work is particularly a struggle at the moment - I cannot get motivated.
However, the house is clean thanks to my lovely cleaning lady, I am fed and watered and relaxing in my jammies. 13.5 hours before I have to go to work again so focussing back on self care. I can't decide whether to literally do nothing or do a bit of crochet.
