    Welcome ditty 1234!

Yesterday I was cream crackered so I was very happy with a lie in this morning. No meditation or exercise but going to the mountains tomorrow so that will be a fair bit of walking. Finally used up the veggies that were going soggy and made a packet thai curry.

Decided that I'm boycotting the very convenient n3scAfe coffee at work. I don't agree with the capsule concept, although they can be recycled into things like swiss army knives and earrings apparently - a waste of energy methinks. The machine itself comes with a stack of one-use paper cups and I can't imagine how many end up in the bin every day. However if anyone here wants to change my mind I'm open to it.

  • I've just returned from 2 days travelling with work. Whilst most of my spends will be on expenses, not all will, so I won't be counting them as NSD's and I'm stuck on a terrible 8. I knew it was going to be a difficult month with so much on.

My parents are making the 3.5 hour journey down to Manchester to visit me for the weekend, so I need to get some things for them, ruining todays NSD too. We'll go a wander round shops, have lunch etc and so I'll no doubt have spends over the weekend also. Oh well, it's not like i can sit in the house and refuse to leave just to get my NSD's!

    Have a nice weekend turtles!

shrewbie - I disagree with those pod machines too. If you think about all the items we recycle and then think about how many products you own actually made from recycled plastic I imagine it will be a very small number.

Both my children came home from school this week having had an assembly on hydration delivered by the Head. In it he showed them plastic water bottles and how many you should be drinking a day then went on to tell them that they should buy one in the mornings. We are beyond horrified, they are supposed to be educated people. I am so cross that I am emailing him today.

DD came home with her information about the practice for her DofE, this is her bronze award, we have paid the registration fee of £21 to DofE and now it is £80 for the practice and then £80 for the actual event, 1 overnight stay and we have to provide all her food:eek:, I want a breakdown of the cost I think as it used to be £30.

Quite chilly here today but I am hoping to get a wash dry on the line, will steam clean the floors and clean the tops of the kitchen cupboards, fridge and other applicances today, walk the dog, clean our bedroom and then may go for a bike ride although I have done 50 miles so far this week and my legs feel heavy.

Had a bit of a walk today to put Himself's prescription into the chemist and bought some veg etc that was needed plus a birthday card for one of my lovely neighbours who is 60 tomorrow. We don't really bother with that sort of thing but she is lovely and has been a source of great support for me over the years. Also ordered a birthday present for one of the wee ones as we'll be away on the day.

We are going to Northumberland again in June. We can use our bus passes to get to Berwick for free so we've decided to stay overnight in Edinburgh on the way down. Edinburgh has become very expensive for accommodation but we've booked a Travelodge which is about the same price as getting the train. I've still got a gift card for a restaurant which we can use for a meal. It's a nice start to a holiday.

So all in all it's been a bit of a spendy day.

Weekend here now. Don't have any real plans but I'm sure we'll think of something.
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.

I'm back home. Holiday was lovely, felt more relaxed as soon as we set off (after hobbling round like a demented chicken trying to get things done before hand). We passed on a couple of outings - mum stayed home one day and I got control of the walker. Much needed as I had drunk all the water/ diet coke I had taken with me as well as polishing off a full bottle of hotel provided water with each meal.

At breakfast they only put out a few bottles by the juice dispensers (all glass bottles/ demijohns). On the first morning I tucked one under my arm and took it to our table - I have to get mum's food as well so already had a few back and forths to do - cornflakes for mum, juice/ water for us both, butter and other stuff to go on toast, then queue for the cooked breakfast buffet.

Second day the supervisor caught me and made me put it back. I said that I would drink the whole bottle, she said they had lots of people who had pills to take and 'we pour the water'. They didn't even have the larger size water glasses, just tiny juice ones - and if people need water why don't they supply it. Took one glass to the table, picked up my teacup (I don't have tea or coffee but get through lots of water), went back to the juice table, pulled a chair across from the nearest table (have had a sprained ankle since before Christmas and can only stand or walk for five minutes). Sat on the corner, apologised profusely to anyone who's way I might be in and had just drunk my fourth teacup, when a waitress approached holding a bottle of water for me and took me back to my table. I thanked her and she indicated that it was her boss who had sent her. On subsequent days I had a full bottle of water on my table at breakfast. I did thank the supervisor who said it was her boss who insisted on not having water on the tables at breakfast ' because it's less formal' .

I quite agree with you dolly - I think it's disgraceful that schoolchildren don't have access to water, either taps of drinking water or jugs especially at meal times. I can understand that they don't want children needing to go to the toilet every five minutes but I drank lots of water during my schooldays and never needed to ask to leave the classroom because of it - it was understood that you went at break times only. Teaching them that it's natural to get water from a bottle is wrong.

So once the supervisor and myself were best buddies, everything was fine. We have seen lots of wonderful scenery, baby lambs and daffodils and the hotel had a fairly tame peacock (let me get close enough to touch but didn't want me to actually touch him and went off in a huff). Wonderful food, lovely staff, pleasant driver. Think I've spent too much (more than anticipated but have bought cards and presents for mum for Mother's day and her birthday, including one difficult to find item.

We've rested quite a lot as we are still both getting over multiple illnesses but I'm a lot more confident about booking another couple of holidays now - we have been waiting to see how we went on with this one but there were some that mum liked. Sore throat is back with a vengeance. Ice cream, juice, honey and throat lozenges have all helped but will probably make my diabetes worse (let's hope my tablets can cope).

Two lots of money for mum I phoned up about before going away have been paid/ agreed (without my having to send the letter they requested), forms for reapplying for another have arrived (awarded for 3 years). Phone message for mum about a funeral, minor panic as mum was saying I hadn't put one of her appointments on her calendar averted when she read out the letter they had sent and it's in May not next week (and was in my diary and on the calendar on the right month).

Back at home, regular visitor is here, house looks reasonable (some stuff in the space I had cleared and have just put 5 empty toilet rolls in the recycling bag, everyone liked the present I brought (Easter pasta - little eggs and bunnies), Beloved has had a phone appointment which gave much better information than she was given last week - told her latest blood test was clear after 3 showing serious problems. Good news is, she doesn't have a brain tumour, bad news is there is something wrong they just haven't worked out what it is, she should not have stopped taking the tablets but reduced them very slowly and once she stops, she needs a new blood test after 6 weeks.

Today I am grateful for baby lambs, mountains and lakes, water especially tap water, lovely waitresses and friendly taxi drivers, flowers (lots out early), rest and relaxation and the house not being a complete tip.

Smallish spend in Tesc0 this morning, but did use tcb vouchers to reduce it :)

Today I am thankful for dry weather (if chilly) - 1 load of washing basically dried throughout the day on the line. The other is shirts (OH and DS2's) and will dry overnight over the backs of chairs :) Also for birdsong, DS3 being the first one out (so we got away quick - always a bonus on a FRiday at school!), for OH bringing home some goodies, for a QS toffee penny, for surviving blitzing DS1's bedroom!!!

    Morning all,

SFD yesterday. I think I’m on about 12 now. Resisted a takeaway and had leftovers :) Got lots done at work and then chilled last night and went to bed at 8. Today I’m off out for breakfast with my parents, then town for an eye test. Need to do more marking and hopefully swim too.

  • A bit of a step to my low spending: fridge freezer has just died, we'll need to chuck some food and go back to daily food shopping until the new one arrives next week. Thankfully I had just enough in my home fund to cover a new (cheap) one. Need to think of some shelf stable meals!
