so a final Ulster Bank Loyalty Saver update - applied on Friday 29th September; completed the online ID on the following Monday; received my customer ID by email on Wednesday; received activation code by text on Friday - so account now fully open after 1 week - access via website and app... deposits and withdrawals are, as expected, instant.

Ulster use HooYu for their online ID checks - via desktop or smartphone...
    https://www.ulsterbank.co.uk/What-is-hooYu.html

    it is in two parts...
    1. you upload a photograph of your valid photo ID (Passport, Drivers License or EU ID) - I had an existing passport image on my computer, so I uploaded that via the PC and was accepted within a couple of minutes... if you don't have an existing photo, then the phone app can access your camera and take a photo of it that way.
    2. you complete the "Liveness Check" - for which you'll need a webcam or your phone... basically you just put your face within the oval outline and move your eyes when prompted - to prove you are alive lol... for this, I did it on my phone and I could continue with the existing check that was open on the PC... again, it was accepted within a couple of minutes.
it is probably also worth mentioning that when you open the account, they will also send you a completed application form in the post for you to date & sign - I got mine yesterday.... but if you have already completed the HooYu online process, then there is no need to return this paper document.
in my case, this application form didn't request any additional ID - just to date & sign the form and return in the pre-paid envelope.

cahoot cahoot Simple Saver (Issue 2)

    5% / 5.12%

    Monthly / Yearly interest

    Source: Money Facts

Any idea if this rate has also been applied to the simple saver launched a couple of months back at 4.9%?

I'm still waiting for the first one to be opened!  I tried applying in August but, for some reason, they couldn't complete online ID check (they do it via Experian, I checked all the info held and it matched).  Had to apply via 'phone, still had to complete ID by post - not heard anything since, not that I'm bothered as other accounts beat it shortly afterwards.
