Trying to pay into Tandem from Santander, the transaction was blocked and they've locked me out of online banking and the app.
Test transfer went through, then £5k payment but was shut down trying to make another payment.
For info - You can make individual payments of up to 25k from the Santander app - so the £5k payment could have been larger reducing the number of transactions.
Thanks. So I would have been better sending £10k in the first place? I thought smaller transactions might be less likely to be blocked... not so.
I'm up and running again now but that's the best part of two hours of my life that I won't get back again.
Multiple transactions are more likely to be blocked. So the fewer there are the better to reduce the risk of having your account blocked.

Santander allow customers to make £100k of faster payments in 24 hours (per Santander account).

So you can do 4 * £25k via the app - or call them up to do a single larger one
Well that didn't go so well. I sent another 10k to Santander this morning en route to Tandem. Thought I'd try via the app today, rather than the website but they have declined the transfer and blocked me AGAIN!
Really can't be bothered with this. Now waiting to talk to someone, again.
I've had accounts with many banks over the years and have never come across a bank as bad as Santander.

Their overzealous algorithm and penchant for blocking accounts that requires calling them up to be put on hold for hours, followed by being quizzed regarding the transaction, is horrendous.

I went back to them when they released their (at the time) market leading eSaver, but after several hours of phone calls trying to extract my money back to the same account where it had been deposited from I emptied the eSaver, closed the account and vowed never to return to Santander under any circumstances.

I've since understood you can claim compensation for the time, bother and effort they've caused, so it might be worth exploring that avenue?

More on topic, I've had no issues transferring money to Tandem from other banks, so it does seem to be a Santander issue, as usual.

I share a lot of the bad sentiment about Santander but have had no problems at all with shifting various amounts from Santander to Tandem yesterday and today. Several £4k and £5k transactions, plus a single one over £20k today. I admit, I had fully expected to get blocked and locked out with that one but they let it through in seconds. Luck of the draw, I suppose. I am very grateful I didn't have to waste an hour on the phone to their fraud police.

You would hope that Santander's systems and processes would be smart enough to catch on that a new TOTP savings account had been launched and that an avalanche of cash would subsequently head that way. Since the Sort Code 60-84-13 is unique to Tandem Bank Limited, it can't be too difficult to identify this behaviour.

Tandem is great and I've had no issues (had account for years), they even manually added my Chase acc since many places doesn't have open banking for it still.

You can also have multiple "linked" accounts.

    They don't proof read their own email really though;

"The Branch Saver account will become a closed issue, and the balance of the account cannot be increased after 4pm on 8 October 2023."
    ...
"Please remember that this is a closed issue product, so you will be unable to open another Branch Saver at a later date"
I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at.

The account will become a closed issue, because it's a closed issue product.

How can it become one on 8 October, if it already is one?

Test transfer went through, then £5k payment but was shut down trying to make another payment. I know we're supposed to be grateful for the security but I'd really rather not have to waste so much of my time trying to get access to my money restored.
I'm having problems too. Opened the Tandem account a couple of hours ago, linked my Halifax account and transferred £100 no problem
Just withdrew £10k from Chip in to my Halifax and then tried to add it to Tandem and it failed twice. I couldn't confirm the transaction in the Halifax account - the account details were all in red and the submit button was greyed out so I had to manually cancel the transaction.
Tried again with £5k this time and the approval went through fine with Halifax, but it failed it the Tandem app. Not a great start.

    Update -
Just tried again with £5k, looked like it was going through OK but it eventually failed in the Tandem app.
My wife opened Tandem account yesterday.  Connected to Halifax, sent £50 test by OB - it went through OK.  Then tried to send £5k - failed twice. I've suggested to try FP and it worked. Very strange, I've never had any problems with transferring in and out, except once when I sent money from not-connected bank account (didn't read t&c properly) - they've returned the money and sent me a text message explaining why they've returned it.
  • Two go to 4.8%. Looks like they are saying, stick with us, sure were 0.2% less than the current best but it'll save you all that hassle.
