fabsaver said:madlyn said:I had issues with making deposits into my NBS account.
The initial deposit went fine, but once the account was properly active and I had received everything I needed through the post, my deposits kept being bounced back.
After several emails and even taking to someone over the phone, it still didn't work so I closed the account.
It says in the initial email "Your unique reference number quoted above, which should only be used for initial payment to Newcastle Building Society"
After 3 attempts I gave up.SPC 0370 -
I got the 2 letters from NC on Friday but no verification code. I'm not putting anymore money in until it arrives.1

I didn't try to "apply again" last week - mainly because I had already sent an opening deposit (of more than £1) to the account details and the initial deposit ref no - so didn't want to create two accounts and have problems unravelling - clearly, they've been overwhelmed with applications - and now with phone calls and other enquiries - let's hope it gets sorted soon (along with the ability to easily withdraw if needed).
"As you were asked for confirmation of your identity and/or current residential address....etc.....click here for help with identification documents. Please send all documents to the address below"
Is that the bit you mean?
However, it wasn't really clear when I applied for the account online that that was required - I just read the bit about "we will attempt to identify you electronically or something similar" - at no stage did it flash up with "we have been unable to therefore we will require you to send documents" -
So I guess that means I need to send them - and until I do I won't get confirmation of my account number? But I assume the initial deposit I sent using the ref number will turn up at some stage.
Thanks for your help.0 -

I like Investec, and realised long ago that, although they might not be top-of-the-pile all of the time, they're pretty much always there or thereabouts.
For the amounts that I keep in EA accounts, a difference of 0.2% or so even over a whole year - never mind a couple of weeks - isn't worth the effort of moving for me.
YMMV of course. Just presenting an alternate perspective 😊2 -
I know: 14 day notice is hardly EA... But not a big imposition for some, either.
RCI E-Volve £1k min 14 Day Notice ac 4.30% RCI Bank E-Volve Savings 14 Day Notice Account | RCI Bank
14 days notice isn't EA ,so it wont get a rank. But a ToTP rate & maybe useful to some.....

Anyone thinking of "upgrading" a YBS Internet Saver Plus Account to Issue 13 for the 4.25%, don't close your old account. Keep £1 in it. To be able to apply for loyalty accounts online, you need to have an account that has been open for a year. YBS IT does not recognise 20 years membership if your live account is less than a year old!10
