Anyone thinking of "upgrading" a YBS Internet Saver Plus Account to Issue 13 for the 4.25%, don't close your old account.  Keep £1 in it.  To be able to apply for loyalty accounts online, you need to have an account that has been open for a year.  YBS IT does not recognise 20 years membership if your live account is less than a year old!
but if you have an additional account older than the previous issue, then close all but the oldest if you had kept money in them if you want to get the annual interest early and start compounding it.

Also, you can rename your oldest account to remind yourself not to close it

Though in any case, while YBS online doesn't always recognise concurrent accounts closed after opening another, their branch/postal accounts application do support checking the closed ones.

Just received a phone call from NBS with apologies for the confusion with "ID by post" message and they will pay £25 into my account as a compensation for the trouble. Nice!

What was the confusion? I ask because I called them today and they said I have to send my driving licence to them in the post. I already uploaded a photograph it.

That's a good benchmark for when I receive my complaint call :-)

Just in case not mentioned elsewhere, "You can't make withdrawals for 14 days from the opening this account".

At least that's what it says in my YBS app.

I assume they had a number of complaints about this ID fiasco. I didn't complain, but they asked for feedback via text message and I gave them a low mark and explained why.  Perhaps that's the reason they've called me.

People applying the other day got the message they hadn't passed electronic verification and needed to send ID by post (with further confusion whether copies had to be certified).

Many (most?) people who had that issue found they could start a fresh application the day after and the account was opened following successful electronic verification.

...which suggests it was an IT glitch on the day, rather than anything to do with the individuals affected.

Surprsing NBS didn't offer to re-run the electronic check rather than have you send your driving licence in the post.

Yeah - that’s the case with all their accounts for ‘security purposes’. Part of the reason I didn’t bother - I imagine in 14 days it’ll no longer be competitive, and I’d be reluctant to fund if I couldn’t withdraw - especially given the IT problems.

Personally I've just added it to my collection of EA accounts with £1 balances, along with issues 11 and 12 of their internet saver, in part to generate a £1 debit card payment from TSB and in part on the off chance the rate becomes competitive at some point in the future. If at some point after a fortnight the rate is still competitive and I need a temporary home for some savings to be parked for a few days before moving them elsewhere, I may end up adding some more funds into YBS, but for now £1 is all they're getting.

I would imagine/hope that YBS will resolve these issues within the next fortnight so I'm not worrying too much about their current technical issues to be honest (though I do have great sympathy for those wanting to make withdrawals today etc).
