That is good to know - All others I have used that use the Newcastle BS online platform - Gatehouse, Charter Bank, SecureTrust, etc have that cut-off, I'd assumed it would be the same, but good news that it isn't.

I sent my id yesterday 1st class mail so we shall see how long it takes to get verified and account opened with NBS, by that time im sure Chip or someone else will have beaten their rate

Don't think so, if it is, I fluked a 5 figure sum into it well after 2pm showing in NBS c 3.30pm. Tried another  £20k  few mins ago, at 16.25. 
CS on phone (exceded daily o/l limit) at FD says it'll get there this afternoon 'subject to checks'.

It is weird about First Direct.  Their mobile app limit is £30k for the day, but their online limit (via their webpage) seems to be per transaction rather than per day - I'm sure this wasn't previously the case.

Yep - you're right - it was the app daily limit, not OL.

In NBS T&C it gives cut off time for same day funding as 4 pm.

Luck. You must have squeezed under the gate as they were closing it.. 

Got a bit worried but just checked and my initial deposit is safely in account! Phew!

Argh, just made an additional deposit at 4:40 pm.  Looks like the money is in limbo until Monday now (and the loss of interest).  At least I know for the future.
