I started my final switch to santander today and previous to this I did a switch exactly a week ago.
I just noticed the FSWI reference numbers had a difference of 682, so i can assume in the last week 682 switches had been initiated. If all the switchers claimed the amazon vouchers that would equal £68200 worth of vouchers, and thats just 1 week of the total offer period!!!

Many of my FSWI numbers end alphanumerically...

    for reference.
I've started a switch today (over the phone to an existing Santander account) and been given a switch date of 14th June, (7 working days).
using that as a guide and assuming you can enter a claim ON the 18th we have until Monday 10th (final day) to get a switch started.

2 of my switches have taken longer than 7 days. I switched a TSB account on 28th May and I'm still waiting for the confirmation email saying it's completed.
The money has left the account but no email as yet.

The switch completion date is usually confirmed when the switch is initiated. Also i believe CASS has 7 days switch guarantee

re the URN "FSWI" number. It uses the (base 16) hexadecimal system.

You should still be able to calculate the size of the range between 2 hexadecimal numbers by converting them to decimal numbers and then doing normal subtraction.

Thanks, how interesting! Out of curiosity I done the calculation you suggested and ended up with figure of 1762.
On second thoughts, the FSWI numbers are not only for Santander switches. Possibly all cass switches use the same reference numbers.

It may be possible to determine the volume of purely Santander switches for a given time period by using the difference between the reference numbers on Santander's own email confirmation of the switches.

It looks as if the reference number is a normal number updated by one for each transfer ......but I think the last digit (or possibly last two digits) forms what is termed a "referential integrity check" or "modulus check". A sort of self checking mechanism which makes transcription errors identifiable.

So to use a purely made up example (and assuming only one digit for the check digit) - if the first number in the series was "0079252080" the next number may be "0079252092"

Here's a more detailed explanation of just one example of a type of modulus check:

Ok....removing the last 2 digits of the santander ref numbers and subtracting gives 799.
Almost half of the FSWI switch value 1762 i got earlier.
    Could be i suppose.
Either way its a lot of £50 vouchers

    It's just £100 shy of £80K

It gladdens my heart to think of people extracting that volume of free money from the banking sector over the course of a week :T
