The switch team sound really rushed...

I'm amazed Santander are keeping it up; other banks would have allowed this to deteriorate into long waits on the phones so people would be disincentivised to milk it.

    Or maybe closed it early..

It gladdens my heart to think of people extracting that volume of free money from the banking sector over the course of a week :T
Who do you think actually pays for the Amazon vouchers? The bank fairy?

Much as the theories on calculating the number of vouchers issued is very interesting, it doesn't really matter so long as our vouchers come through :).

They pulled the promo early, on 17 May rather than 18, in line with their terms, but they do know their maximum exposure based on how many codes have been issued. What they possibly were not expecting was the claim rate, but again they must have been monitoring the number of claims as they have the power to authorise or reject each voucher claimed. Hopefully they repeat this promo in future  (though other banks may be reviewing their account opening systems to block any transfer out/open new/transfer out activity ;)).

Whatever they are keeping up, it follows no set patterns. I have had all sorts of different documents (both, by email and in the snail mail) for different switches at different stages of the CASS process. Most of the paper versions of the switch agreement arrived long after the switch was completed. Some had account details filled in, most were blank. For some switches, I even had formal Fund Transfer documents in the snail mail - though this seems to be limited to switches from Metro Bank.

Similar about the vouchers. Most vouchers so far arrived automatically, on the same day for referrer and referee. Some didn't, though. And there's no real pattern to how long it takes for the vouchers to arrive, aside from it taking at least 3 weeks.

Still, I am not complaining

Colsten, I'm well aware who ultimately picks up the tab for this offer...

However....one shouldn't lose sight of the fact that this promotion's badly thought out terms of reference, and associated conditions, means that IMHO it is every true MSEr's duty to fully exploit this offer to the max.

In fact I would go further and say that to not do so would be bordering on rudeness. ;)

At the end of the day it is money coming back from Santander that is both unexpected and in my experience unprecedented.

I love the way MSEr's are working together on this very thread (and the associated referral thread) in a spirit of true co-operation to that very end! :T

Indeed, our final ones submitted this afternoon and due to complete on 17/6.

I'm still unsure whether it's best to then claim on 17th or 18th.

I've always claimed as soon as I had the email to say the switch has completed and I've received all my vouchers as expected.

I posted a while back with a warning about my accounts being closed after referrals. I said I'd follow up with the results from Experiaan/Equifax/CallCredit/Cifas/Synectics Solutions/National Hunter, the latter three requiring a Data Subject Access Request. The results were all clear, no flags against me.

Furthermore, I did end up receiving the vouchers by email after all, as was my entitlement.

So I think the likely cause was a) opening accounts rather than switching by phone into existing, b) using the free overdraft offer.

I'm pleased that it looks like I was an exception and others haven't faced similar issues, so sorry for any false alarm.

It would be interesting to know whether anyone has submitted a claim after an account switch has started, but before it was completed, and still successfully received the vouchers.

If so, this could perhaps extend the offer window a little for those people who are still awaiting the arrival of debit cards from very recently procured sacrificial accounts before they can start their last switch(es).

It would of course be dependent on the level of checking performed by the bank - but hey it may work! Maybe they will just check whether at the point of claim checking that the account transfer has completed rather than specifically check if it completed prior to the 18th.

.....and if there are still spare unused codes floating about towards the close of the promotion it may be worth a punt...there would be nothing to lose.
