freelancing work for the two weeks before I start the new job was not forthcoming so im going stir crazy waiting to get started and get stuck in.
Me and OH are finally on the same page money wise it seems - the claim has been registered against his ex employer and he has been advised his claim is worth 6k - he knows in around 6 weeks if it has been accepted in full and what the timescale is for the payout - if it turns into a hearing about it the timescale stretches to 12 or 13 weeks to get a hearing date but at least its put to bed and sorted out instead and just hanging in the ether.
he's waiting for the job local to us to advertise again so he can go and get an application form and we see what happens from there.0 -

not until it is either accepted or declined - he needs to know if he is owed any money from anyone. Ive chivvied him into phoning them once a week to see if it is progressing and make sure it doesnt die in someone's in-box for a month.
I also had a blinding flash of reality last night in the wee small hours when OH was snoring and I was still clicking around on the calculator working out how much interest I will end up paying on the amount on his credit cards - I thought of him doing a balance transfer to a 0% card, ok there will be the fee for the move but it would give me a couple of months breathing space to pay it back with no added interest - and probably improve his credit rating at the same time. ive checked what sort of deals he would be entitled to and 28 months with 1% fee is the best I can find. All I have to do now is convince him to do a balance transfer....
I've managed so far not to do any spend on shopping but I need to nip out and get bread and milk today but that is all. we're going out on Friday evening to the OH eldest daughter and her partners for dinner - they have invited us over so that will save me raiding the freezer for another meal. They are expecting twins mid year and are at the stage of getting stuff for the babies (and have worked out how expensive it all is) - OH did originally offer to buy them the travel system - pushchair/ carrycot and car seat all in one but the one they have set their hearts on is 2K so I've told him that is not possible - unless he goes and gets a job that is - actually he knows that is mad money to spend but he feels beholden to help his daughter out, we did the same thing for his younger daughter when she was expecting - mind you my earning capability was a lot better in those days...
apart from all that its just a case of plodding on till I start work on 25th and then payday from the last job on 29th.0 -
and OH has discounted doing a balance transfer out of hand and there is no discussion about it apparently - decision made, I climb out of this hole that I am in and clear the immediate bills and his credit cards plus get everything onto payment plans then I tell him to leave. I need my life back and my sanity and I've had enough of living like this.0

Well, presuming that 50% of the credit debt is as much his as yours, I would suggest you plan how you will pay your 50% and leave him to pay his from his £5-6k when he gets it. Otherwise he can spend it all on his daughter because you already pay his share of the bills, his share of the rent and buy his food.0

I second this. Take the cash you planned to pay this card with and use it to get your escape fund started.0 -
you are right - if/ when his payment comes thru he can use some of that to clear the credit card (what is left as I will have to start getting rid of the balance on it) and then he can use the rest to move out. that makes a fresh start for the both of us.0
