And of course you could leave him with the last debt on the cc to pay off himself as his contribution. I never said that... I never said that...

Your car insurance bill is spectacularly high, any reason for that? I assume you've shopped around.

Same goes for petrol/diesel - is this amount of driving necessary for your job?

While you are carrying emergency debt at these high rates of interest, I'm afraid there should be no space in your budget for presents or entertainment, at least until you have these cleared.

Have you anything set aside for your retirement? This should be a key consideration as you won't be able to/want to work forever. If not, well it's not too late for sure, but definitely building some savings should be at the forefront of your mind.

If you can kill your car costs it would be a massive win. If not essential for your job then I would suggest look for a job as close to home as you can and walk/bike to it and ditch the car completely. If it is so essential, look at the cost versus how much income the job is pulling in - you should be able to see it's hugely disproportionate.
  • I agree with your previous post that you are both stuck - you moving on (preferably out!) might give him the kick up the backside he needs. Or not ... but then it won't be your problem any more.

Clear cards, build up a !!!! Off Fund, move to where you want to be, win :D.

i think the time is approaching that we need to split and go our separate ways - no I dont want to live what is the rest of my life on my own but I also dont want to live as someones lackey for the rest of my life and that is what I have become to the OH, not a partner, not an equal but a workhorse that does what is needed and makes life easier for him.

in answer to some of the other comments - order or priority for income moving forward is:-
    • income to cover all living expenses so not using credit cards at all
    • credit card paid off in full (this goes hand in hand with the point above)
    • clear priority debts asap - tried to call regarding council tax arrears on Friday but they didnt pick up the fone, need to call and get this sorted
    • emergency fund
    • build a new life fund - for when we split

the debts go back onto dmp with a new IE and offer letter sent to each of them and I continue with nominal payments for 3 or even 6 months whilst I sit down and work out if bankruptcy is the way to go.

whilst all this is going on some other points:-

    * car tax and insurance on the joint car we currently have is enormous - its a real gas guzzler and not efficient for the running around I do to work and back. I either need to move closer to work or I need to get a little cheap-to-run car on the road for me. petrol has been overestimated in the latest SOA it should be closer to £120 per month maximum. car insurance entry also covers breakdown and it was renewed less than 2 months ago and shopped around for.

    * presents are stopping at the end of this year - OH and I have agreed that the grown up children no longer will be receiving anything. OH turns 60 this year and is going to announce he has retired and as such there will be no more spends apart from the grandkids which will be £50 per month to cover both xmas and birthday for all of them (6 of them). I want to cut it now but I cant face the argument so have conceded the point.

    * holidays are no more than a weekend away camping to go and see family who live on the south coast and it happens perhaps twice per year so that spend is staying - I have nothing in my life that is mine or for my pleasure. I dont drink, I dont smoke and I dont go out - apart from going to work so I am going to see my grandkids a couple of times a year because if I dont before I know it they will be grown up and I will have missed it happening. that spend is not monthly it works out as perhaps £200 for each time we go down there so would be closer to £40pm on the SOA.

As a final point neither is the money that is entered for haircuts monthly - I plan on treating myself to the first haircut I have had in almost a year with the second months wages at the new job (or the tiny bit that will be unaccounted for by the time everything is paid) - I feel like I deserve it.
  • You absolutely deserve it and, as I discovered via a period of neglect, well tended hair increases credibility in the work environment

i'm doing ok - stressed that payments are bouncing and getting post from companies daily but I can see a way out of this so its just stick to the plan and hold my nerve.

new job starts on Monday so im all set for that - and payday for job that lasted just a week and the one im due to start which is all due at the end of the month - its all accounted for but at least I can see things starting to happen.

start date for new job has gone back till 25th so I may have to take a couple more weeks freelancing work (I'm now being contacted about projects every day - I think thats known as sods law!) just to give me an income for the next two weeks. I dont think I'm going to make payroll run cut off for the job I start on the 25th so I will end up having to ask for an advance on my wages to get me thru till a full payday at the end of April.

Credit card balances currently stand at 132 on card 1 and 473 on card 2 and I haven't paid rent yet - so will be up to around 1k on card 2 by the time thats done. dont need petrol at all this month (tank has been filled up and freezer is full just need a small top up shop with bread/ milk and spuds to pad any meals out) - should get away with 40 to last the rest of the month.

one DD bounced so far this month and lots of letters from creditors that I cancelled the DD for and asking me to set them back up again - which so far I have managed to ignore and avoid - im doing a great impression of an ostrich at the moment with my head stuck in the sand and pretending its not happening. I havent even told OH yet that my start date has gone back as that will end up in a blazing row that I'm not ready for at the moment.

Bank account now in unauthorised overdraft territory so that is going to add fees on - maximum of £80 including any bounced DD fees ….

current amounts owing on everything are as follows:-

rent arrears 210 - when I make the payment outstanding that is
council tax arrears - 273 - not yet contacted them - Ive tried to get thru twice with no luck so far

Vodafone - 270 - with a DCA so going to send a IE and offer letter to them and set up a SO end of april when I can afford to pay them something

150 bill from a DCA for a credit card I had and that has contacted me after 4 years. I havent contacted them or done anything about this one yet

bank fees due £80 worst case scenario - due next month (before I pick up a full months wages so going to be nigh on impossible to pay them)

pre pay certificate for OH has bounced meaning I need to buy one of those for when his medication is due thats another 29.10 due end of March and will have to go onto the CC. That will cover him for his next lot of medication as well (May) and by then I can put another 12 month payment plan back in place.

    ................................

doesnt make for pleasant reading does it? Oh and I'm likely to have picked up a parking ticket today as well - I gave a neighbour a lift to the dentist where she had 15 teeth extracted under general anaesthetic and ended up staying over the 3 hour limit so thats likely to be another £60 or £70 fixed penalty fine.

before I do anything I need to contact the freelance companies and see if I can get some work for the next 2 weeks then I think again and work out on what I know for certain not what ifs. oh and of course none of the debts on my dmp are included in the above figures.... so thats extra again

200 taken off credit card 2 and paid into bank account to take us back out of unauthorised overdraft territory for bank - I also cashed up £16 odd of copper and paid that into the bank account as well taking us up to 150 of authorised overdraft available. Ive paid the 3 bills that are left due this month and cancelled my mobile phone payment - massive £5 of credit on giffgaff per month.

OH knows what a mess finances are and that my start date has gone back and that its going to take me until sept/ oct to clear the credit cards in their entirety and lets just say its been a fraught morning so far. Credit cards are going to be hammered next month as well and we will be nigh on 2500 owing on them by the time I get a full months money at the new job.

its doable but cant see any let up to any of this.
