Yep, mine came through a couple of hours ago using the reading I gave on Sunday afternoon.

Wow hot off the mark this month aren't they. I usually read my meter on last day of month. Read it again on 5th of month and I receive my bill around 14th of each month. However today I received my bill up to December 31st. They've also used a higher estimate assuming I'll use more electricity due to winter. So. My bill is one of the highest I've received in recent months. £41.53. It's usually between 25 and 30 pounds. Of course I'll get some of it knocked off next month due to overestimating.

Maybe they realised I was looking around at other companies. Green. Energy and their spruce variable tariff has been tempting me

I'm convinced they're giving away free energy. When the date of your reading is later than the date of their estimate on the previous bill, they increase the units estimate in the "Cosumption Calclulation Based Upon Estimated Billed Reads Til Date" section of the bill (their delinquency, not mine!).

The only problem for them is that they haven't charged you for these additional estimated units, but then take them into account when they're working out the variance units, so you get the additional estimated units for free.

So this month, they'd estimated to the 30th November, but I provided a reading on 1st December, so I get their estimate of a day's worth of electricity (16 units ) free this month.

Since their current estimate is to 31st December, I might try sending my next reading on 2nd January, and then I'll get two days of electricity for free - provided they don't generate the bill before my reading gets through their system.

I've only been with them since September but am already 70 units up! Now I've worked out the algorithm, I should be able to get 1 or 2 days free electricity per month. Result!
  • Struggling to understand this!! Been with them since 20th August this year.

Direct debits paid out Aug to Nov inc' = £144.22 - Actual usage 20/8 to 01/12 1047 KWH which translates to £139.53 so they technically owe me £4.49 for that period.

Now I get their 'winter reconcilliation' e-mail and they want to take a DD for December of £87.03!!!

My av' daily use is around 10.5 KWH so my December bill should actually be around £43.20 inc' standing charge so quite why they want to take DOUBLE is beyond me.

I submit readings on the 1st of each month without fail.

I've written to their quality assurance dept for an explanation.
  • I've been with them since April and not had a problem till this month. They normally take payment on the 25th of the month. But this month are taking payment on the 10th which means in the space of 2 weeks I'll have paid them £261 which I can't afford! They are also taking payment from the wrong bank account as I switched banks and even though I updated details with them they continue to take it from the wrong açcount. Really not impressed with them!:(

Possibly! However I don't rate their competence at (a) recognising the problem and (b) fixing it.

The spelling mistakes on this month's statement were present two months ago, but fixed last month. So what's that all about?

If they can't even spell "calculation" I'm not too worried about them learning how to do it!!

That said I'd prefer them to stay in business and am happy to pay for every kwh used if they can get their act together. The worst case scenario is if they are giving every customer a day's free electricity every month; their margins must be slim - will that drag them under?

Have you been failing to give meter readings, hence an estimated bill has been generated?

If your Direct Debit has failed to keep up with your usage you'll be hit by a double DD whammy. It will increase to match your higher than expected usage, and it will increase again to claw back your arrears.
