I've been submitting readings, but I they don't make it clear when and also they take the DD to close to the bill so the bill does'nt take this into account. My usage has increased as mentioned the bill does'nt allow for the last payment.

To be fair they answered the phone quickly and I am on a fixed DD now to bring it down, I will also cut my usage and monitor it more closely and submit readings more frequently.

    More information needed.

Please post a copy of your latest bill/statement, and I'm sure someone here will help you.

How you doing with the above request to offer you the assistance you asked for?

Just received this email from them regarding my attempt to sign up -

    "Thank you for your email.
In accordance to your smart meter query, we regret to inform you that at the moment our systems are not compatible of reading smart meters. We understand that you would be okay for us to treat your smart meter as a dumb meter and submit your meter reads manually but as per the regulations, we are unable to take on a supply with a smart meter. We are working on making our systems compatible to read smart meters and it shall be done by the second quarter of 2020 and we request you to fill in a switch application once our systems are compatible with smart meters

Also, as our system is linked up with the National Database the switch process could not go through."

Having seen the recent posts though, it looks like i might have had a lucky escape!

Not sure about a lucky escape, but presumably you have had an expensive escape!

And everyone tells us we will save money with smart meters. Not you it seems.

Matelodave is able to benefit from low prices with his (dormant) smart meter though, it seems

Yes, it was odd that he has a smart meter and it isn't a problem yet they say I can't sign up because I have a smart meter. Is this confusion over how to handle existing Smart meters a sign of issues with their customer service?

The lucky escape was a comment about the people that have recently had some rather "interesting" requests for more money.

I Have a smets1 dormant smart meter and signed up to symbio no problem back in April.

However if I now try to get a quote on their website it says I can't as I have a smart meter. It's a bit short sighted to block out everyone with smart meters dormant or not.

I'm quite happy to be supplied by symbio however come tariff renewal in April if I run into problems I will switch probably to green.

What is this ""Variance Charges of Reconciled Variance Units Consumption charge" that Symbio have introduced for this month? Like others my bill has increased for this month even though my usage is the same for previous months and I regularly submit meter readings every month.

That's the difference between what they estimated you would use in the last month (and you've already paid for) and what you actually used. They add (or subtract) this amount to the estimate of what they think you'll use in the current month. They're increasing their estimates (and their cashflow!) for the winter months.

This variance figure has been on my bill since June. Probably been on Yours too jazzy. However up until the cold snap of the winter months on my bill it's been a credit deducted from my bill. Now that winter has kicked in and electricity usage has gone up it is a deficit that you owe symbio so its added to your bill. its the difference between symbios estimated reading and your true reading on a given date. If like me you give regular monthly meter readings it shouldn't be too great a figure. Symbio have started using winter calculations for estimated bills now so it should even out. Its not an extra charge. It's what you have used

Must say, just tried to get a quote from symbio as they come out top on the comparison sites for me now my utility point contract is up. They wouldn't even give a quote as I have a gen 1 smart meter (british gas). I rang them up when the website said no, and the lady on the line said they can't provide energy to anyone with a smart meter (even if you are happy to use as a standard meter and give readings)

Seems very bizarre, the first company where I have had this issue. No custom from me for Symbio then.
