The lady is obviously incorrect or ill informed. I have a gen 1 smart meter functioning as a normal meter due to transfers away from first utility (installing company). I've been with symbio since April no problem at all. I know their website prevents you getting a quote but a telephone conversation. Should sort this problem out. Symbio must be losing a few potential customers due to this strange function of their website

Not just the website, their email "help" gave the same answer asthe telephone person. If you have a smart meter they "can't" provide electricity to you even if you are happy to use it s a "dumb" meter.

Interesting that they can supply it to you but not to anyone else!

I guess it's a new rule. It certainly wasn't in place when I became a customer. If I try to get a quote for a newer symbio tariff via website it refuses on the smart meter grounds. I'm sure I'm not the only symbio customer who has a dumb smart meter

Glad I refused my smart meters now or I would be missing out on the cheapest tariffs

I'm sure they would let anyone be a customer really with or without a smart meter. You would just need to talk to the right customer services person.

Since Symbio can't even spell, have a poor website and give away free electricity through their complicated (and broken) billing algorithm, I'm surprised they've managed to implement a function to bar smart meter users from signing up!

I don't think they give free electricity away. My reading was above their estimate last two months and I got charged accordingly. Website is fine by me. As long as I'm getting cheap electricity I'm happy

Provide your next meter reading the day after they have estimated to on your current bill and watch what happens on your next bill....

They are not very switched on, I have around £50 of unpaid electric from after my erroneous switch away, they just put me on a new 12 month contract. If they ask I will pay for it but I am not going to prompt them. On top of the £60 compo from Utilita who stole me and the £50 from Santander because of no cash back my electric is quite reasonable this year. No bill this month yet, I have checked with my regional distributor and I am still a Symbio customer with no switches in the pipeline - thought I would check as Utilita did try to steal me again last month !
