  • on the plus side, as people have noted before, with the current system the price cap will go up in April over the summer months (low usage period) & then possibly come back down again in October for cheaper energy over the winter (high usage period)

I have gone on an 18 month tarif for electricity which is about 2p per unit more than nextflex. Given that the cap will soon be shooting up towards 30p per unit this seemed a good move.

Yes, I too signed up for the 18-month tariff.  SC increased from 24.382p to 38.08p and UP increased from 20.14p to 21.86p.

This is around a £90 a year increase over their current SVT.  I can see prices increasing by more than this come April '22.

I switched away (had to pay up to remove objection) and cancelled my DD to minimise damage. How does someone with a credit balance who has already switched get it back? Do I wait for the administrators? How long? And what do I do if nothing happens?

FWIW - I switched from Symbio to PFP and was then switched to British Gas (as SoLR) on 10th September as/when PFP folded. This was about 3.5 weeks before Symbio followed suit.

I believe PFP's affairs, although somewhat murky, are not a patch on the mess that Symbio managed to create. Yet, AFAIAA nearly 3 months on, no ex-PFP customers have received a 'final bill' from PFP and hence no customer credits have been refunded. The PFP administrators say they are still 'in discussion' with British Gas and that the final billing "process will take a number of months to complete".

If this is anything to go by ex-Symbio customers should not be holding their breath. And those that are no longer with the SoLR, having switched either before or after the Eon 'takeover' can expect to be even lower down the priority list. So, although the customer credit balances are all protected and assured by Ofgem rules, it could be some months yet before these monies actually materialise anywhere.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a self-satisfied pessimist

Just noticed E-on site saying I haven't giving them meter readings, but gave them at the beginning of November. Also set up a direct debit, but the Tarif not any cheaper.  Thinking should I go fixed or say variable with them?

Just noticed that my SMETS1 smart meter is now working with the new EoN-Next tariff (both tariff and s/c are functioning) although the cheeky B's have me on the "receipt of bill" tariff rather than the DD tariff, despite the fact that I registered a DD as soon as I was able.

The difference being 4.56p/day and 1.11p/lwh which equates to an extra £16.64 a year on the standing charge but the extra 1.11p would cost me £85/pa more as well costing me an extra £100 a year.

They have changed it from today but I have registered a complaint as I reckon they are taking the proverbial as they aren't offering to backdate it to when they took over.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
  • Still no debit card payment facility available.

    Thanks good to know.
i am not in a rush at all and apart from those with genuine cash flow issues I’m not sure what the rush is TBH. It’s not as if there are any other options.
i will just be keeping my bills and keeping my cash separate.

it must be a scary time for those on fixed income or just about managing.

Nice. Had I known they'd give this as an option I wouldn't have jumped to another sinking ship by the name of Neon Reef!

It's all a gamble but at the moment, fixed deals include provision for the coming four months or so where spot market prices are still high. The factors which have brought this about are well known and it is also pretty clear that they will fall away after the threat of severe winter weather has receded, and that is what the futures market seems to be suggesting. If this situation persists, prices of fixed deals should reflect this as we get nearer the time but it is still a gamble.

£14.71 "Balance Transfer" credit added to my E.On account.  I calculated my Symbio credit balance to be £13.72 so will have to wait for a bill.
