I'd like to know if/when anyone else gets any balance back from Symbio via Eon. They're giving positive-sounding but deliberately vague statements, it could take months yet.

This is the fourth energy provider that I've had that has gone bust and I've got my money back after each one, (although Neon Reef)'s demise makes it five) so there's no reason to suspect that SYMBIO will be any different although some will take longer than others depending on the stse of their accounts.
The fastest was when Octopus took over from IRESA - 5 weeks,.
The longest was when Eversmart went belly up - four months (with a bit of prodding) but I'd already left them two days before their demise, so it was the administrator who had to do all the work.
Those who have kept their readings up to date and have kept their bills and own records will be in a much better position to get it sorted out quickly than those who just let it drift.
Bear in mind that it's not a trivial exercise to take over a big tranche of customers all in one go and then try and sort out their billing (especially the way SYMBIO did it)
I'm not defending EoN and I'll be one of the first to complain if they dont get imine right but I do understand that it's going to take some time to sort it out.
BTW I'm still waiting for £35 from Neon Reef whom I left in July and who went bust a week or so ago. I guess I'll get it back eventually but I'm not holding my breath as I expect to be at the back of a fairly long queue with current customers getting priority (as they should) and creditors in the hands of the administrators. They'll probably capture the record for being the longest to pay out as they already had four months before they went bust.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers2 -
I've pretty much given up on the money owed by Symbio when I left them at the beginning of August due to a house sale. They sent my final bill promptly and promised many times to refund my credit but never did before they went bust. I did send them my new address by email twice but on both occasions, failed to acknowledge that they'd made a note on the account. No email or anything after they went bust so I suspect what will happen is that the new owners will end up getting my credit owed.0

Knowing how disorganised Symbio were, I wouldn't assume that they even have records of all former customers that are still owed money.I'm anxious to see Eon at least acknowledge how much Symbio owed me, they made such a mess of my account. Thankfully I didn't leave them and at least managed to get them to issue a bill with the former meter's final reading on it, so at least I do have some evidence. I suspect that lots of people will have issues though - e.g. former customers, people whose meter they'd changed where (as for me) they made no record of the old meter's reading then continued issuing bills based on estimated readings from the long-dead meter.I object to the assumption made above and commonly here that people with credit balances are incompetent and/or stupid. It's completely possible for the likes of Symbio to very quickly take £100s from your bank account and there's little you can do about it. I was in the 28 day delay before involving the ombudsman at the time they went bust, an individual's powers are fairly limited when a company seemingly deliberately decides it wants to raid your bank account.0

I switched away (had to pay up to remove objection) and cancelled my DD to minimise damage. How does someone with a credit balance who has already switched get it back? Do I wait for the administrators? How long? And what do I do if nothing happens?
many thanks1 -

My unit rate/standing charge also show today on the website as the non-direct debit rates (they weren't there yesterday) yet I had two emails a few days ago acknowledging I will be paying by direct debit, and then reminding me that the direct debit will be coming out on 1 December. Will have to keep my eye on this to see if it changes to the correct DD rateA chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion0
