Just signed up to Neon Reef 12m.

They say I'll be live on the 12th!

...And they'll be dead on the 13th?
Hopefully just kidding, I'll be along after Eon have given me back all the £100s that Symbio managed to steal out of my bank account, I don't want to risk making things over-complicated by leaving too soon.
What would we, the British people be doing if we didn't have to spend our time mucking about with this nonsense?  Inventing new products, making the world better, curing cancer?  Who knows, but I'm sure the human race could do something far less pointless than comparing unit charges between fake companies that all supply you from the same power stations down the same cables anyway.

Good news Symbio this evening sent me an email advising about my intention to switch and no issues. They just wanted me to confirm the reason why I was leaving them and I replied "because you went bust". Also just requested a picture of the meter read on day of switch. Will be interested to see on the final bill if they charge me the exit fee of £30.00. However Neon Reef have said they would refund that plus give me £50.00 referral credit.  The amount Symbio owe me is very small so not an issue if I do not get it back. After all I have done well at 10.074 per kw for a long time now.

My first dd will be taken by Neon Reef on the 11 October and my biggest concern was the payment would be taken and Symbio would be objecting to the switch. Now feeling a bit happier.

It's run by the same business geniuses who ran UtilityPoint, yes, but it's a separate pyramid scheme company.

According to news reports and Eon, I was switched from Symbio to Eon Next on 3rd October...

    We're your new energy supplier.

Symbio Energy is no longer trading. If you're a customer of theirs then Ofgem has decided that we should take over supplying your energy from Sunday 3 October.

On the 4th of October (yesterday) I've had a PDF bill via email from Symbio and have been billed by direct debit.  You wouldn't know anything has changed, they've always billed for the forthcoming month, so their bill is for the period of 1st until 31st October.
As ever, their bill is based entirely on fabricated estimates, despite me providing about five meter readings over the course of last month that they've completely ignored.  I do understand that the month end reading is always going to be an estimate, but the starting estimate used for the bill is about 3000 units higher than reality despite my many readings.  They now owe me about £500.  This isn't a mistake, it's outright fraud.
Why are they sending bills out after they've gone bust, and taking direct debits?  I hope Eon know what they're letting themselves in for, they're going to have to find a lot of money to pay off all the customer credit they've nicked from people.
I've just checked their direct debit email, which says that they'll steal my money on the 7th October.  I'll wait and see if they do, I'm not going to cancel it as it may cause lots of problems with Eon and it's probably too near the date to cancel anyway.

If you are in credit then there's no reason why you shouldn't cancel your DD. If they arent going to take it until 8th then do it now.

This is the fourth company that I've been with thats gone bust and it's always worked for me.

    Eon Next say this...

Do I need to set up a new Direct Debit?

To make things easier, we'll try and transfer your Direct Debit over so please don't cancel it. If we need you to set up a new Direct Debit we'll let you know over the next few weeks. You can do this through your online account.

According to Symbio's lies, I owe them for this bill, so my account would be in arrears if I didn't pay it.  But that's only because they've been ignoring all the readings I've provided and have been basically taking as much money as they think they can get away with.  So, while I know I definitely don't owe them money, and they owe me around £500 after this bill, I'm not going to risk making things worse.

So I'm going to leave it as suggested.  I don't want to do anything that makes the situation any more messy than it already is.  Hopefully they won't take the money, but I really don't know what's going on.  I'll definitely ensure I get it back at some point very soon.

If they take the amount it will go to Eon anyway and then you can get Eon to review your DD to a lower amount due to your built up credit

  • I changed my mind, I just got the welcome email from Eon, which states...

    What happens next?

If you paid Symbio Energy by Direct Debit, we'll let you know how to set up a new one with us when we update you about your E.ON Next energy account over the next couple of weeks.

It seems that they've given up on the idea of transferring the existing direct debit as stated on their website, so I've now cancelled the Symbio one.  Hopefully this is in time to stop the money vanishing into a black hole in a couple of days' time.

I got that email too. Well at least they've managed to make sense of Symbio's systems to the extent that they know how to contact the customers. I wonder if they've looked at an example of a Symbio bill yet!
