I'm not sure cancelling your DD is the correct thing to do. The new supplier usually takes it over. That's what's happening with Avro/Octopus and has happened the other many times this this has happened to me.
Goodbye Symbio, it's been 'interesting' and more importantly cheap. Cheap wins over customer service every time !
I presume that although they've gone bust today, we don't need to supply a meter reading until formally notified by the new supplier, as that will be the point the new tariff applies from.
They've always sent me email confirmations of tariff, billing and charging, but I've screenshot the billing page for convenience of reference.0 -
Well Neon Reef are still offering a decent fixed rate for electric but I guess they are highly likely to go bust too unless they have bought a lot of electric in advance at a lower price
At least I'll be able to refer myself for an extra £50 since I already have another NR account
So if you cancel the Symbio DD do they start charging a fee for a failed DD ? - vaguely seem to recall some people mentioning this ?
Given they have ceased trading then I would have thought it would now be illegal for them to pre-charge for energy for next month ?
I wonder if they have timed the announcement to allow for one final cash grab with the October DD i.e. the SoLR wont take over supply till start of October now

I will give a meter reading tomorrow as usual. Also I pay a variable amount each month depending on the bill. Not sure how this will now work going forward.0

Goodbye Symbio, it's been 'interesting' and more importantly cheap. Cheap wins over customer service every time !When Octopus took over from Iresa in 2018 I had to set up a new direct debit with Octopus in order to get my credit refunded and they took 3 months to pay out.I've cancelled the DD mandate as I'm already about £90 in credit (in the real world rather than using Symbio's ridiculous estimated usage for September... more than 3 x actual!!!).0 -

Shame - that was my only arguement with them.0 -
I saw some people earlier in the forum commenting how they had an E7 meter, but were on a single-rate tariff.
Does anyone know - is it *always* allowed/possible, to sign up to a single rate tariff, with an E7 meter, or was this something Symbio in particular allowed?
We have the E7 meter, but don't have storage heaters, so this may well be appealing to me in future. It would certainly save some arguments with the wife, as the phrase "Can't it wait for low rate?" has become a tad wearing...
I know I could also probably have my meter changed - but, I could also change my rads. I'm in two minds, so don't really want to get bogged down by that debate. Just curious about the 'single rate tariff' on the e7 meter, as that sounds like a flexible alternative, that still leaves me able to go with both options in future.0 -

Symbio never helped themselves with their poor customer service but the prices were unreal and I’m all for the cheapest anyday!
im sure the administrators will keep it simple and just look at opening and closing readings, calculate usage and compare it to amount paid in account.2
