I was told when I first joined they read this thread on a Friday but would not comment on it. I invited them to set up an appointed spokesperson for this thread but they declined. But this was back in April 2019 when I joined. A lot of water has passed under the  Bridge since then. My correspondent back then was Sam budhedo who departed in June. I doubt very much they read this thread now. As for ofgem. If you read what I posted I said it was that if ofgem don't get involved in the symbio debacle then it's pointless they exist as there are far too many possible regulation transgressions that need investigating

However after reading a thread on another site I decided to speak to my bank today and explained that Symbio have no record on the statement they sent to me of ever receiving this payment so the bank  accepting what I said  have refunded the £36.48 back to my bank account. So what should happen now I should get my new bill in March and will show this amount outstanding. I then by bank transfer send this credit back and that should solve the issue.
So it was the bank's fault in the end?
Not at all. It's was good old Symbio. However the bank know I am a pilar of society and that's is why there was no problem refunding the money.  If I say that how it is then that is how it is. The idiots refunded this amount but never credited it in the first place as demonstrated in the statement they sent me.

    I don't understand, sorry.

There are a very limited number of permitted reasons for making a claim under the direct debit guarantee. What one did you agree with the bank to use?

Who is funding the refund? Are your bank so generous as to refund you out of their own pocket despite you saying it is Symbio's fault?
In which case the bank will be accepting they are at fault.

Or are your bank so stupid as to try and recover the money off Symbio who claim they never had it? If so, I feel you are heading for a fall, as Symbio will dispute the claim, and the bank will then re-debit your account as a result.

First of all the amount credited back for £36.48 is just shown as DD refund and the reference number.  I told my bank Symbio are saying they never received this payment and I wanted to claim under the DD guarantee. They agreed.

Symbio have made it perfectly clear to me on the phone and  the statement sent to me they only have a record of the refund of this amount hence the reason for the outstanding amount from January. Symbio can do what they want but at least I have my money back and if anyone comes out worse now it must certainly will not be me.

How could Symbio put in a counter claim as they are the ones who took the dd and lose it somewhere in their system. To me its between my bank and Symbio to sort out. I am just the innocent party in all of this.

If the bank have agreed with you that Symbio have not received the amount collected, it seems the bank have conceded that they they themselves have made the error, and so will be refunding you (from the money they have taken from you and not given to Symbio) In the circumstances, Symbio will not even become involved :)

For the record, as far as I know, the supplier not receiving the money from the bank is not one of the acceptable reasons for making a valid claim under the direct debit guarantee.

Perhaps the pointy finger of blame should be pointed at GoCardless if the money was lost between leaving your bank and arriving at Symbio attributed to your account ID?

It appears green. Have played ball with ofgem regarding the dcc problem. I wonder how symbio have got on?? Here's a message I received today when I asked green about dcc compliance on behalf of friends who are looking to sign up with them

"Dear Taf. Thank you for your message - I'm very pleased to confirm that we are now a DCC User effective from 17th Feb 2020. I can also confirm that the proposed final order will no longer be pursued as we have complied with the instruction from Ofgem. I believe that we have become a DCC User in the shortest time of any supplier to date, and were the youngest supplier on the list published by Ofgem by a significant amount."

That's really good news. However with Symbio who knows! Will be a customer of Green on 1 March. My next fight is with Utility Point trying to get the promised refund of £105.00 after changing to a cheaper tariff. Oh well keeps me on my toes so to speak.

Zog were brilliant only left on finding a cheaper tariff but that was a while ago. I was happy on the UP tariff but they said they could save me £30.00 a year more by changing tariffs. The agreement was to refund part of the credit and roll the rest over on the new tariff. Well in theory this is what should have happened.
  • Hi guys,  I am now being threatened by symbio that I am in breach of my terms of contract and unless i recreate the dd they will transfer me to thier standard rate!!!  This is because I stopped my dd so they could not take the exorbitant amount of their bill

Paid their revised bill which they seem to have lost. The rub is I want to switch to Green energy and as said before there are a lot of suppliers trying to jump in. If I try GREEN. the site does not respond. Help guys with correct email address for them
