Could be shoppers are stocking up in the event of a second wave of Covid.

When I visited Aldi yesterday I was rather surprised that the social distancing floor markings in the till queuing area had been removed. And even more surprised that those queuing seemed to interpret this as meaning they didn't have to keep their distance anymore.

A little while back my ALDI removed the final aisle "Wait HERE until called" to minimise people at each checkout, and had to resort to actively shouting at people "You don't need to wait any more, just queue already!" to get the throughput back to normal. It has reduced the social distancing as people "chase" you into the checkouts to unload their stuff onto the conveyor. Back up. BACK UP! :)

My local Morrisons also removed a lot of the "single queue feeding tills, wait here!" which (as you note) has sent the wrong signal to people that they should just barge forward into any 2M gap you leave.

    Sadly, but predictably...

Selected Christmas goodies now available in Lidl.

I don't go to the Aldi nearest me, as the car park is awful. Yet every single time I walk or drive past it, the door is always on green. People are moaning that at some parts of the store are very crowded. Is it supposed to be like this or this store's entry system is faulty?

Having said that, I last went to Aldi end April.
Numbers in Aldi have definitely increased since they replaced someone at the door with the traffic lights. Like you said they do always seem to be on green but I try to go at a quiet time.

No shortage of anything in my Aldi today, plenty of eggs, beans, tomatoes. I do agree that there is an increase in stockpiling though.
  • In my local Lidl this morning, 4 single tins Simply baked beans and one 4-pack Heinz baked beans. Considering there were none yesterday morning, I would say some people are definitely stockpiling again.
