In my local Lidl this morning, 4 single tins Simply baked beans and one 4-pack Heinz baked beans. Considering there were none yesterday morning, I would say some people are definitely stockpiling again.
    some people don’t stockpile.
Hardly any tinned tomatoes or eggs again today in Lidl, so clearly some people do.

Between having none Friday morning and only having 8 tins (2 different makes) Saturday morning, I'm sure people were only buying one tin at a time (NOT) or maybe Lidl just happened to find just 8 tins in 24 hours.

Not too sure if this may be a cause of the eggs shortage. My friend who shops at Sainsbury’s (she has no other supermarkets bar a Coop) saw a note by the eggs saying there’s a shortage of pulp cardboard boxes and using more plastic.

i don’t get stock piling eggs as they can be used 10 days after the use by date. Mine are dated 5th. That’s under 4 weeks if use them 10 days later Unless making cakes and freezing them up.

    Sadly, but predictably...

Selected Christmas goodies now available in Lidl.
My DH will be delighted. He just loves stollen. 😋
Me too, but I don't buy it until after Christmas and it is reduced. Ditto panettone.

And back in May I quit sugar and don't need to start again!

Egg shortage at the moment seems to be area specific. With the exception of when people were panic buying some months ago, my local Lidl has had eggs most of the time, both in cardboard and plastic boxes. Though they haven't had the full range the last couple of days.

No surprise. And imagine the impact of a no deal Brexit from 1 January when border controls hold up all the food lorries we depend on.

What an idiot of a Prime Minister we’re stuck with.

I asked the store manager in Lidl about the 4 packs of Newgate beans, he says that they are discontinued for the moment but he is of the impression they will be back.
Meantime they had single tins on the shelf @ 28p.

Might be part of his anti-obesity strategy. Cancel Christmas and starve in the NY.

Get real with the eggs. Use by date or not, test them by putting in water. If they float, bin them. Except they still might be ok if you crack them open and the don't smell rotten. Use your "common sense" instead of being brainwashed by use-by dates, which are always on the cautious side so that you don't sue companies for your diaorhea.
In my post about eggs dates. I said 10 days as once I had an egg which was off 11 days. Also, if you are using multiple eggs for a recipe, scrambled eggs etc, crack one egg at a time into a mug or a pot, then put into whatever you are using. Know of someone who was making a cake and cracked three eggs straight into the cake mix. The last egg was rotten and she had to bin the entire mix into the bin
