As a devoted Aldi and Lidl shopper for many, many years, now forced to have home deliveries from Tesco, I have to admit that the quality and life expectancy of the fruit and veg is actually better.

The cause may well be that Aldi and Lidl don’t yet have the same highly developed cool chain, keeping the stuff cold from production to store.

I have always had an issue with Aldi fruit seems to vary from store to store. I have been having Asda deliveries since lockdown and have had the odd problem but you can ask for a refund online if you are not happy with the quality. one week there was a rotten pear in the bag and they just refunded the full amount, never question it. I have had refunds for short dated items too. I have to return the items to Aldi for a refund, which is not convenient as it is not that close

Well, they should have, they have been established now for many years. Had a reply on Aldi's FB page. Of course, they said it's not their normal standard and wanted barcode, product number, which store etc. etc. I was asked to return packaging and receipt next time I go. So that was better than being asked to keep the strawberries, like I was told on the phone. As the binmen come tomorrow, they went in the bin today and some had already gone mouldy and furry. I've had loads of strawberries from Lidl and never had a problem. I think a lot probably depends on the individual store.

I remember about 15 months ago, I went to the Aldi nearest to me. There was a board of fresh items out on the shop floor. About 1.5 hours later, I went back to Aldi as forgotten something. The same board of fresh items was still out and not been touched. Touched something on the board and it wasn't cold.

A badly run Aldi. The best branches have keen managers, and they're usually young. If I see a grumpy SA I know the manager isn't doing a good job.

New in Lidl - Mister Choc Big Bite - I had the Peanut Caramel Crisp and am ashamed to say that it was scoffed at one sitting, all 295g @ £1.99, gone in sixty seconds (ish)
It was too good really and I am too much of a guts to resist it if I try some of the other flavours.

OMG you have beaten my record.

I haven't touched sweeties for 4 months now after 46 years of scoffing it but I am now left with loads sitting in cupboards. Looking at it now I cannot believe just how much I used to eat without even noticing, it used to just melt in my mouth and slip straight down my throat.
