Sending you both a PM with photos of BIOS, because ....

The darn thing won't even start up today

Blue screen - Automatic Repair couldn’t repair your PC

C prompt only opens at X: etc

    C:\ says invalid!

I've tried to Rebuild BCD & Repair MBR

    bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd
    bootrec.exe /fixmbr
    bootrec.exe /fixboot
The first two run ok, but the third gives an error :(

Damn it. What specific error (although you may know more about bootrec than me!); don't suppose you've tried the SSD...
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

Take out RAM, clean with an eraser, pop back in and try again.

BIOS photos sent by PM were with the old HDD fitted, not the SSD

I just turned it on briefly last night after tea to get the details, then switched it off ... and it hasn't worked properly since. :(

I know nothing about bootrec - just that google told me to try it
Error was "the volume does not contain a recognised file system. Please make sure that all the file system drivers are loadedand that the volume is not corrupted"

    Tried that, but no different.

Can the HDD be read if you connect it to your other system?

Do you actually need the HDD for any reason?

Do you have any other old HDD you can install to, to make sure the device itself is still fine?

    Just tried that ... :(
"not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"

Yes, really. He's rubbish at backing up stuff - probably not done for 12 months!!!

I have the old HDD out of my current PC that has all my old data on (a secondary back up)
What would happen if I tried that???

Juts tried an old HDD that I know was knackered (coffee damage!) and that tries to boot up but then says:-
Media test failure - check cable
    Operating system not found

Does that tell you that the device is fine?

You can spend time trying to fix it, but I think you should work on getting the SSD recognised

Cannot be sure unless you install to a working HDD.

Just get back to the SSD for now.

    Good idea!

I put the serial No into the Fujitsu site and it tells me that BIOS 1.17 is compatible with W7!
