Best you can do is to search via the Part number written on the battery.

    Here is a typical search

So from £11 delivered. Though you might want to choose one that a least claims to have a battery protection circuit.

Well, that was a waste of an afternoon.

New SSD was faulty - just dead

New RAM was the wrong (physical) size - never seen anything that long before
Also, the laptop has two 2GB modules, so looks like we will need two 4GB's

Still not done anything about the battery ... but ... one of the locking clips is broken, so I couldn't actually remove it!

    Ho hum!

Did you purchase Desktop RAM?? https://uk.webuy.com/product-detail/?id=smem9qah 240 PIN as opposed to Laptop 204 PIN?

Let's hope it's their mistake, as the link in post #5 is correct.

Don't bother upgrading the RAM. It really isn't necessary. SSD will make all of the difference.
If you viewed the video I posted the improvement from 4 GB to 8GB is minimal and really not worth the hassle.

Well, I sent them your link, so, who knows.
Yes, it was Desktop RAM in the packet

Probably better to buy the SSD direct from Crucial....

How could they get it(RAM) wrong??

    You have a PM...

    BUMP

Back from my travels soon and need to tackle this again

One other issue that I encountered that someone may be able to assist me with ...
When I took the old HDD out and connected it to my PC, I couldn't access all of the data
From (IIRC) users/PP/documents and/or pictures it told me that I didn't have permission to access this folder. Despite pressing allow access etc. the green bar just trundled along, but nothing happened.
There are two users on this W10 PC and no passwords.
I could transfer all the data to my external disk first, but, if there's an easier way ....
    ???

Let’s give permission to the folder and check if that helps. Follow these steps to give permissions to the drive.

    a) Right-click on the folder which you’re unable to access and select Properties.

    b) Click on ‘Security’ tab and under ‘Group or user names’ click on ‘Edit’.

    c) Click on ‘Add’ and type ‘everyone’.

    d) Click on ‘Check names’ and then click ‘OK’.

    e) Select ‘everyone’ and under ‘Allow’ select ‘Full control’ and click on ‘Apply’ and Click ‘Ok’.

Another option would be to use takeown.... ; https://superuser.com/questions/813878/how-would-i-use-takeown-to-take-ownership-of-all-folders-on-one-drive
