Rose - I am in absolute awe of your activity levels!! I did my second couch to 5K run last night and looked like a beetroot by the time I got home, I can't imagine trying to do that on top of a game of tennis and a 3 mile walk!!
Dumpling - I'm sorry you're struggling at the moment and if you're in pain then you're not wasting the doctor's time by calling him. If you've got a mental block would it help if you got someone to call for you? Take care of yourself and I hope that things improve soon.
Mrs Lottie - well done for stopping at 2 sweets. I've never understood how sometimes a craving can be satisfied by one chocolate and other times having anything at all opens the floodgates and leads to a massive binge. I do seem to be getting slightly better at recognising which craving's which though and avoiding all food if it's the latter.
Dandy - very well done on being sugar-free and the lack of snacking.
Despite knowing that a lot of people recommend a low-carb diet I don't think it's something I could do. I love potatoes, bread and pasta far too much to give them up and have always ended up ridiculously hungry when I try to cut them out of my diet.0 -
Well in for the rest of the day now, glad to get out of the wind!
Did my 3rd run of week 3 c25k am chuffed as I said I wouldn't do the last one if the weather was too bad, but got up at 6 this morning and although very windy it was dry so I decided to (attempt) my run, I swear I'm the slowest jogger in the world but it felt good to complete week 3. Decided to pop round sainsbob for a bit of shopping thought I'd drive but flat battery so had to walk, well and truly knackered now (Rose don't know how you manage it!)
Izadora I cant do low carb either, I would be so hungry, I follow sw so luckily apart from bread and cereal most carbs are free, I try not to go crazy with portions though.
It's my weekend off this week, I always struggle not to eaat like a mad women when the rest of the family home, but I am determined to stick to plan. Lots of housework to do tomorrow plus dd wants to go shopping with her friends so will have to drop her at her friends(on foot now) and charge the car.'You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose' - Dr Suess

Well done on the running SIRENS. I started off slowly on Wednesday running for 3 minutes then walking for 2. Today I ran for 15 minutes then did a mixture of walking and running until my 35 minutes was up. If my leg starts to ache I change to walking but my leg isn't hurting when I walk so I'm happy.
I tend to eat better when I'm running. I think about what I need to repair muscles and to help me run. I realise I'm only doing short runs and not marathons but every little helps.0 -
Evening Everyone
Thanks for the nice comments about my exercise. I am nearly always full of energy these days. I'm sure the low carb diet helps. The exercise doesn't seem to help with the weight loss though!! It does help with toning up and being healthy though.
This morning I had yoga followed by coffee with my friends and this afternoon I went to a U3A quiz with my running friend and her husband. We weren't sure what to expect but were delighted to find all the questions were just the sort we like best and we came first.
Because I spent most of my day sitting - in the coffee shop and the quiz - I hadn't done enough steps so went out for a walk after my evening meal. I tried to persuade DH to come with me but he was busy so I went on my own and did 45 minutes of brisk walking.
Lunch: Ham and cream cheese salad.
Dinner: Egg, homemade wedges and mushrooms.
Treats: 2 pieces of Toblerone
I'm not sure what I'm going to do this evening. I might do a bit of craft work and listen to a podcast or I might just curl up with a book.

K9zz, don't worry about unpacking, I moved in 8 and a half years ago and I still have boxes in the loft and garage I never unpacked. And, even though I moved from a 2 bed to a 4 bed, I didn't have room for everything we'd accumulated. I guess I just had loads of rammel I don't need!
I know that you said you're happy with your own company most of the time but that's a world away from having nobody there if you want them. Like everyone else has said, be kind to yourself.
Dumpling, I hope you manage to get something sorted, it's a great idea to get someone else to call the doc.
Anyway, I'm delighted, nonplussed and a little embarrassed to report a -7lb loss this week. I have been keeping to 1300-1450 calories and eating small portions but still... I suspect it's something to do with the end of what my old sw consultant called star week *cringe* (cos it would be out of the question to write period in a diary:rotfl:)
Anyway this week I will be mostly eating salad in an attempt to keep it off! Well, after today's double curry, of course! :A
Sending skinny thoughts all around!

Evening all, thank you all so much for your kind words and thoughts, they helped a lot. I had a bit of a shift in thinking last night I believe and have sort of started to think of this place as home so I’m actually feeling better today-haven’t cried today so that’s a bonus!
Right, what I really need to ask and get a bit of help with, is how do you actually lose weight? I’ve been trying to lose weight properly for 30 odd years now! Of course I know how you lose weight, but how do you stick to your plan, how do you choose a plan, how do you stop bingeing, how do you find a plan that suits you (I’ve used them all at some point!) I really feel I need help here! I don’t know if I’m just a flake with no willpower at all or if I’m expecting too much of myself and then failing miserably but I need to do something-I’ve reached my highest ever weight and reckon it’s just going to continue slowly climbing if I don’t get control soon. I’m educated about nutrition, have spent most of my life reading up about diets and healthy eating but can’t seem to apply it long term to myself. I eat a fairly healthy diet and don’t drink, so why do I struggle so much?
Sorry, not being very supportive to others here but I’m getting desperate now.
Anyway, well done to all you successful people and good luck to all those who didn’t achieve their personal targets this week, next week will be different!
Luv & hugs

Sounds like me to a tee, k9zz, I have read everything I could find about nutrition, exercise, weight loss, etc. but I think it's less to do with the diet and more to do with your mindset. I've lost weight on every diet/healthy eating plan I've tried but generally it all goes back on again (ahem, and more) once I've 'finished'. If you can find something that you think you can stick with long term, make sure you treat yourself as needed and try to change habits gradually, you'll have a chance. I really liked low carb but I had a bit of a panic about how good for me it was so started calorie counting again. It's working fine so far but, like I say, it's a long term mindset change that's needed. Ooh, also, I've found that using small plates and bowls, and generally having small portions helps me loads. And calorie logging app like my fitness pal.
Probably completely told you loads that you know already but, hey, it's all good!

Morning,
I lost - .5 lb this week. Small loss but I’m happy. I have my first 5k race tomorrow which is my first race in about 10 years. Bit nervous but it will be grand. It sounds like I will be competitive but really I’m nervous about knee playing up and not coming last:o0 -
Good morning everyone , small loss of 0.5lbs again this week .Trying to be positive and telling myself that even at this slow rate I will reach my overall target in 72 weeks !!!! At least I’m not going backwards even if I’m going forwards is at snails pace .
Well done all who have lost this week and let’s all try and make a good push towards a successful finish to the ten week challenge .0 -
