It would have been nice to have received an update from the OP.

If you genuinely haven't made any dodgy transactions then you've got nothing to worry about.

Well nothing except how to pay your rent and feed your children while they take their sweet time sorting it out.

Sorry guys. Santander will close my account. I still haven't heard anything from Barclays. One person contacted me on facebook since he's going through similar situation and he told me to file a complaint via Resolver which I just did.

I managed to open a Monzo account and had salary going there. I'm yet to change over for my tax credits.

Other than that, I'm busy with work, my hair is turning grayer and I'm moving house...

Have Santander given you a reason for closing your account? I know they can close anyone's account without a reason/for their own reasons if they want to, but it would be nice for you to know exactly what you have supposedly done. I would struggle to see the decision just being based on a normal money transfer - many people (including us) move money between their accounts all the time (and significantly higher amounts than you mentioned).

    Good luck
  • Hi there,

I just arrived in turkey on 2nd April and logged in to my Barclays app to see an errror code saying to contact them. After 2 to 3 phone calls I was told that my account was under review and will take ten days. No dodgy transactions answered all security questions but seems no one will help and even though I’m in another country with no other access to funds they did not care. Cut the break short and flew back yesterday 4th. Phone again this morning and told same thing. Am shocked they can treat you like a criminal with no evidence whatsoever.it seems they have more powers than the police. Have already raised a complaint with ombudsman but again they seem powerless to do anything and just raise an initial complaint with the bank who then has two months to respond. Any advise on this matter would be appreciated

Do you not have any personal current accounts or credit cards? (always wise to have a backup plan when travelling)

Or are you using your personal account for business? (a common cause of accounts being reviewed/closed)

Why did you come home - you had been told 10 days?

Certainly if you were on a 'break' as you describe it, Masunlaith, then you should ideally have been using your personal accounts for funds - not a business account.

Now, I don't know if the T&Cs of a business account preclude personal usage but almost certainly the T&Cs of a personal account will preclude business use.

So, are you actually using a personal account for business? That could easily account for Barclays actions.

You were certainly too quick off the mark for an Ombudsman referral. Looking forward to your answer.
