Caught Speeding

Yes, there are. The signage that's present tells you explicitly that it's a 30.Theres no signs there to say its a 30.
Sure, you need to understand what the signage means, just the same as you need to understand what this sign means, and how the default may imply it... Also how to count "carriageways".
Would you argue they were a bit hard for the average motorist to be expected to understand, too?
How about things like yellow and red lines at the side of the road, or solid white ones in the middle? Or other non-verbal signs such as no entry, give way, clearway?0 -
I'm not complaining, and if it happened me i'd take my medicine on it and get on with it.
But your argument wholly relies on the fact that its "obvious" its a 30. The only thing make it obvious is if you know / remember the rule. Theres no signs there to say its a 30.
Lets be honest here - a pound to a penny says the main reason they put a speed check there is because they know it isnt obvious its a 30. Easy money for them.
The basic speed limit in the UK in towns and city should always be 30, if you don't know that then you should be retaking your test. There is nothing to remember - it's either 30 or there are signs saying otherwise.
The speed camera van will be there because they have had reports of people ignoring the limit and driving dangerously, they wouldn't be there if they didn't see any chance of catching people, they don't go around looking for spots where people might get confused and drive a bit fast)Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Ok, so on that road that the O/P got done on wheres the 30MPH sign?

Its one thing reading signs, solid white lines, give ways, etc, but another to know / remember / not have forgotten that lamp posts at a certain interval mean a 30MPH zone. That is not "obvious".0 -

So if you were a stranger to this road you could tell its a 30 then could you?
Not obvious is it?

Oh come on now. I bet you were laughing when you typed that!
Look at that road in those pictures. Its revenue earning. Plain and simple. If its a "hotspot" for people breaking the 30MPH limit then in the first instance use one of those police signs that flashes up your speed, or maybe stick a couple of 30MPH signs up?0 -

Bless your little cotton socks!
Found this on another thread recentlyJust to add to this - the Chief Constable of Bedforshire Police went on a radio programme - Think it was - and stated that his force was so short of money that they were using the overhead gantry cameras on the stretch of the M1 wich runs through his force area to raise money for his forces.
The speed limits used by the cameras were progressively lowered until they were dishing out tickets to anyone doing more than the 70 limit - friend got one for doing 70.5 mph or for only half mph over the limit.
There was much discussion about it in the area at the time.
But of course they dont do it for revenue earning do they?

If I didn't know the road then no I couldn't so I would drive at 30 until I knew otherwise because that's the default speed limit for urban areas. Again it's basic driving. If you don't know this, please hand in your license.

Nice strawman. I didn't say it wasn't revenue earning. I said the police / safety partnership vans will park somewhere where they know they will catch people. If we take it that speed cameras are there to make revenue then why would they drive to random places in the hope that they could catch a few people who aren't driving carefully as opposed to places where they know they can catch people.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

It was the Crime Commissioner, Olly Martens, not the Chief of Police and he said he would consider doing it as a source of funding. He did not implement it.Just to add to this - the Chief Constable of Bedforshire Police went on a radio programme - Think it was - and stated that his force was so short of money that they were using the overhead gantry cameras on the stretch of the M1 wich runs through his force area to raise money for his forces.

As ever of course, the anti-speed policing crew miss the one very simple point:
If you don't speed, you don't get a fine!
p.s. Remember, car speedometer must be correct or show more than you are doing - if you are showing 70 you are doing maybe as low as 63mph, so again you cannot get caught!Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

And does that like like an urban area to you? Because i dont think you could guarantee it was or wasnt.
And like you i would err on the side of caution and assume it was a 30 but its not "obvious" its a 30 is it? Which was my point.0
