Sounds like a great case where a speed awareness course would be of benefit for the OP to have better understanding of national speed limits where the signage is not clear.

That was the main thing I picked up on my first speed awareness course about repeater signs!

On my second course I was the only one to spot the Gorilla!

On my third I sat there and said nothing!

I missed out on my forth course by 2 weeks!

My car now has a speed limiter and I use it!

I got done years ago going through a large industrial area doing 42mph. I saw the police car sitting ahead and genuinely believed it was a 40mph so i didnt even bother attempting to slow down.

No, it was a 30. No signs anywhere and as i sat there as the police woman wrote out the ticket cars were zooming by me clearly doing way more than 30mph. It would have made more sense - IMHO - to have had signs put up rather than picking off the odd car but hey ho.

My own fault though for assuming, though it does leave a bitter taste in your mouth.

This was the situation - saw the police car didn't even think I was doing anything wrong - what I cannot understand is this one road is 30mph yet all other roads are 40mph -there are no differences in the roads they all have businesses on. I think the copper muttered something about speed awareness week - after they gave me the ticket they drove off in a different direction and I followed them for a while. In other words they caught someone, got the tick in the box and headed back to the station.

This is where the police car was situated, where the wendy house is

  • Also another question, reviewed the ticket and they wrote the wrong time -it happened at 16:23 - yet the police officer wrote 17:23 - can anything be done with an admin error?

Not when the error is so trivial as to make zero functional difference.

Please don't use your car, you appear to be a liability in the roads.....

Thanks for that. The system of street lighting (and hence the 30 limit) is obvious.

It can't do any harm to phone up and ask, but don't build your hopes up.

Otherwise, it's of no help. If it goes to court the piece of paper you were given will not be part of the prosecution evidence.

There are clear 30mph signs at the entrance to that road and there are street lights, so no need for repeater signs, you say all other streets on the estate are 40mph I cannot see any 40mph signs on any of the roads off that one apart from the road at the entrance to the estate.

"obvious" only if you know that that system of street lighting means theres a 30 limit in place.

    Clearly the O/P didnt.
