OP, I think the argument would be that when you entered the road to go to work, you were informed that it was 30, and you would still be aware when you left work unless you saw a sign indicating otherwise. As is mentioned above, 30 mph repeater signs are usually prohibited anyway for some odd reason - probably as it is the default speed limit. I live in a 20mph area and there are repeater signs everywhere, but they can't put them up in 30mph areas. There's probably a reason it's 30 if every where else is 40. Take it on the chin.

They're prohibited because they're simply not required - same as NSL repeaters where there's no street lights.

You can always tell within a very short distance what the enforceable limit is. All the information is there, and your driving instructor told you how to interpret it.

This is easily done - i'd save 100% of drivers have exceeded the limit at some time! If you've got a speed limiter on your car observe the limit and use this and it'll save you grief in the future....

No sign (pun intended) of a streetview link.

    How quaintly old fashioned!
Around here at least two vehicles driven by chancers normally go through on red.
Even some 'professional' drivers join in.
Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?

Why? So you can argue with them?

Yes I have just read that so I haven't got a leg to stand on. Yes I should have assumed 30, but all the roads around the Industrial estate are 40 yet for some reason this road is 30.

I got done years ago going through a large industrial area doing 42mph. I saw the police car sitting ahead and genuinely believed it was a 40mph so i didnt even bother attempting to slow down.

No, it was a 30. No signs anywhere and as i sat there as the police woman wrote out the ticket cars were zooming by me clearly doing way more than 30mph. It would have made more sense - IMHO - to have had signs put up rather than picking off the odd car but hey ho.

My own fault though for assuming, though it does leave a bitter taste in your mouth.

    +1

I use my speed limiter or cruise control (if appropriate to do so) when in a 30 or 40MPH zone. Far too easy to stray over by a few miles per hour.

Sounds like a great case where a speed awareness course would be of benefit for the OP to have better understanding of national speed limits where the signage is not clear.
