I would still like confirmation from Malc. Perhaps some models have physically removable comms as I'm assuming there are various brands/models on the market.0 -
You will have to accept one in the long run so I can t see the point in making a stand !0

Oh look, another letter from EON demanding I have a smart meter fitted, quite forceful in wording. No I didn't agree to have a meter fitted, just to be contacted, and even though I've rejected said contact but still they can't get it into their head that I don't want a completely pointless "Smart" meter.
One key benefit having a little display, telling me that I'm using energy is as much benefit as the MPG display on my car, yes I know if I turn the kettle on it will use energy (likewise if I know I put my foot on the acceleration pedal I will use more fuel). Only benefit of Smart Meters is to the energy company as it will allow them to introduce peak time charges in the future
Hello Kite2010 and I'm sorry you're unhappy with the wording on the letter we've sent.
As above, I've added your feedback to that I've already sent through to our managers. Thank you for this.
Also, as I've mentioned to others, you might want to take advantage of an opt-out. Please see my reply to Greenenergy above (#145 on 31 October 19).
Thanks again for your feedback Kite2010.

It's good to see you are answering all questions raised here. I have a couple more.
On the smart meters you install, can the comms/transmitter module be physically removed from the meter for those who want it in traditional/dumb mode?
Also, on the quotation page, the smart meter wording for Fix Online is different to the other products. If they are identical in terms of smart meter terms, why is the wording different to Fix Online?oliverbrown wrote: »I'm still waiting to hear back from Malc as to whether the comms module is physically removable from SMETS2 meters.oliverbrown wrote: »That is disappointing if true as I'm sure those who are minded not to have a smart meter for reasons of avoiding smart meter comms are unlikely just to take the energy company's word for it.

Hello oliverbrown and we try to answer as much as we can.
There are some questions we need to take away and ask colleagues. This applies to your question about the Communications Comms Hub on smart meters. As far as I know, like Houbara says, we're not able to physically remove these Hubs. I could be wrong and so have asked others more technically gifted than me.
On the tariff wording, I've passed this up the food chain and asked for a consistent message to be placed against all the relevant tariffs.
Thanks for your questions oliverbrown. I'll post again as soon as I've an answer.

You'd think the industry would have thought that was a pretty good selling point for Smart Meters,
"Smart Meters, making your life easier", could have been the marketing slogan.
Your most welcome Regulator.
I've added your comments to the feedback I mentioned to Kite2010 above Halifax_sux. Thank you.Halifax_sux wrote: »I have previously been told that some IHD's do.
Although, since they are allocated at random, pound to a pinch of !!!!, people who really need them won't be able to get them! My guess would be that they are sent out be a third party and there's probably no way to get the one's that do to the people who actually need them.
All down to brilliant planning by an insightful Regulator.
Since we began installing smart meters, we've used several different types of In Home Display (IHD). Although most of ours show meter readings, there are some that don't. It depends on the type of IHD in question. The ones we're using with our latest SMETS2 meters do show meter readings.
Thanks again for the feedback Halifax_sux.

Do any of these IHDs actually give the gas METER reading not how many KWH have been used? As we all should know by now this is not the same thing!
Hello badmemory and as I've just posted above in reply to Halifax_sux, we've used several different types of In Home Display (IHD) since we started with smart meters.
Some show gas readings in cubic metres, some in kWh (with a warning as to accuracy due to gas conversion factors) and some not at all. It depends which one it is.
