    hi

and thanks for taking the time to post your last few posts stoneman!

and in regards picking your seats in business class at £120 that is amazing to think they would charge you for that considering you d be paying business class prices!
Maybe a bit naive of me in asking( hope you dont mnd) but you mention
"is that ba or vs?" in one of the posts above but what is vs? sorry for butting in here by the way
    kind regards

VS is Virgin Atlantic, they are running Heathrow to Vegas next year.

You are not the first to be bemused why when spending £3k on a business class seat you would then have to pay £70 extra for a seat downstairs and £120 for upstairs.

BA use this as a way to gain loyalty. If you travel enough with them you acquire status, get up to silver and seat selection is free from time of booking except for exit rows, Gold opens up exits as well.

So by charging everyone else for seat selection (it’s free from t minus 24 hours) they assure there are plenty of seats to choose from for their most loyal customers.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

You got a good deal there. I spotted a deal on the BA sale for our 9 nights in Dec for £700 all in for Palazzo or Venetian. The only down side is direct from Lgw, rather than preferred airport of Man. I wouldn't have minded too much if it was Lhr. Still pondering.

I've been also making it on Palazzo, and do not regret about it.

Unless you are Silver or above it will cost you another £120 each to get a seat upstairs.

    Lucky me I'm gold

    hi
and thanks for the detailed explaination in regards my question...i thought it could be virgin but wasn't sure !

I ve seen both virgin and british airways do business class-virgin upper class for around £1770 for 6 nights in may think the dates were soemthing like 13-18th may give or take a day or two.. that was from london direct...sadly im up in edinburgh..though british airways would get me down to london and the return flights for pretty much £1770 business..I typed flights into google and used it that way!

koalakoala- way to go being gold...may i ask do you use alot of the benefits you get with gold? sorry to be a bit of a nosey so and so ! :o

The only benefits I really use are going in the first class lounge where available ( it's not exciting )
and choosing seats. I get to choose row 1

ok cool.i always wander bout these high status with a airline and to see if its really worth sticking to one airline to reach status vs best price- which is prob my number 1 thing I look at when looking at flights

Use Google flights, it's what I use. It is quite powerful now, a lot of people used to use ITA matrix but Google Flights is a lot simpler

Koalakoala, I agree pick of seats is a major benefit of Oneworld Emerald or BA Gold but I find having access to some of the best lounges in the world, I would plan my journey just to spend time in those lounges.

Granted regional airport lounges arent up to much but get down to Lhr you have
The BA first class lounge or if you can get in the Concorde Lounge then over in T3 pick of Cathay Pacific and Qantas would be my highlight at Lhr. Even more exciting the likes of Qantas first class in Lax or Cathay first class lounges in Hong Kong, they all have a wow factor. Those quality lounges just add the extra touches to a trip i.m.o.

Now where should I go next trip😉
