Just sorted out a trip in March to Vegas.
It will be the cheapest visit we will have had ever.
Direct flights and 10 nights in hotel for just over £1000 for the two of us.
Took advantage of air miles and companion flight award, only £540 for 2 flights. Admittedly not the best flight option, we have to fly from LHR instead of Manchester, but Man didn’t allow use of companion flight, so a few extra quid added onto costs with a longer trip down to London.
Can’t complain though just over a grand for flights and hotels.:T
Who is that flying with? How come the companion voucher wouldn’t work?

    nvh....that is flying with Virgin.

The companion flight will only work on direct flights, in March Man to Las only go indirect....the second leg is with Delta, So companion flight is not allowed.
So no option...as holidays have already been set for March...than to fly from LHR where both flights are direct.

Ah - didn't realise that the Virgin voucher was restricted to direct flights! Haven't found a use for my vouchers yet. Virgin being a bit stingy with the flights we are after :(

Paris Casino for 2 of us is coming in at around 2.5K including economy classic flights (direct) from Heathrow in Sept 2020.
Burgundy Room with 2 queen beds. ( Virgin Holidays )

An extra £277 for a Burgundy room with King bed and Eiffel view

Extra £340 for economy delight flights both ways.

    Does that sound competitive ?

Got around 100K virgin points which would take about 600 off the cost, plus i think you get a discount for being a VFC member,,

Personally that is a tad expensive to me - I can't start to comment on Virgin points as I don't use them.
To me getting the cheapest flight (whoever that may be) would be my first aim - then I would get to work on getting the best price on hotels.
We always book flights and hotels separately.
  • Yep, gut feeling was that it was a bit steep.

Academic for that particular date anyway, as no availability when i checked further.

I could look for "reward" flights and use the points, but havnt got enough for 2 x premium economy, and apparently economy is a poor use of points, as for the amount you pay in taxes, could get a cash flight..
  • Not sure if anyone has been persevering with the Wynn casino slots app over MyVegas, but they have opened up the rewards to include buffets now. These are much more achievable than the room offers and I have got two Wynn buffets lined up for December :-). It does require a bit of time investment playing the games though!

I am trying. Now up 4000 points ( to spend) and 2000 vip points , I should get to level 1 by the end of 90 days, then need to keep it there or get to level 2 as we don’t go till August so may be able to get a room .

I know the buffets are only available up to may is that the same for the rooms do you know?

And is there a limit on how many buffets you can purchase? I know they are 1200 each and you can purchase 2 for 2400 but how many multiples of 2 can you buy in any given time

Your post didn’t say how many days you were going for, so hard to say whether 2.5k is reasonable or not.
Personally I don’t think using airmiles to “reduce” cost of flight is a good use.If 100k worth of airmiles only reduces cost by £600, I would rather book reward flights.
I agree that economy classic can be a waste of miles, but to me that only applies to east coast trips...like New York or Orlando.
Cash flights to those places can be as little as £250-350...so paying with miles, and then still having to pay taxes of about £250 isn’t really a good deal.
But west coast flights cost more.
Above I have posted that we have 2 direct flights to Vegas economy classic for £540, that’s the taxes only. But if we had paid cash price for those very same flights they were £1375..over £800 saving...worth the airmiles spend IMO. To be fair, it was made even better by use of companion flight. So only 30,000 airmiles used.
If you can get 2 reward flights to Vegas with the miles you have, and only pay taxes, I would do that. But everyone is different, others may still agree that Flying premium economy is a better use, as it would have cost more had you paid for it.
I’m happy enough in economy classic a few rows further back, and slightly less leg room knowing my seat only cost me taxes.

On the hotel side...there are plenty of sites that periodically give good deals on hotels in Vegas.A lot of them just send you to book direct with the hotel anyway, so you can always book one and if a better deal comes along, you can cancel it at no cost.
  • Cheers Brats64.

it was for 7 nights flying out on a Thursday.
Never done Vegas, but i have a significant birthday Nov 2020 ( would probably want to go Sept/Oct, as my work commitments get heavy later in the year.

Fully agree that reward flights are a better use of VFC points than holiday discount, but it came down the fact that availability is obviously not guaranteed for reward flights........
