My brother phoned this evening after he had spoken to our Mum. It appears that she has completely forgotten that I called her this morning and that she had said that I didn't need to go over. She told him that she hadn't heard from me today.
    This is quite worrying.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.
  • Took your advice and had a day at home today. Molly came to see me and we had a couple of hours putting the world to rights, and while the house was quiet I watched a couple of NCIS programmes I had recorded.
I am cooking a spaghetti bolognese for tea.
    And will read etc tonight.

I'm so glad to read this Ss. I do understand you need to consider your income and business but hopefully putting yourself first today will have recharged the batteries a bit.

Happy to see you and Molly got together for the third time.Long may it continue!

I'm sorry to read your concern about your mum. If she's still confused it could be worth speaking to the Dr. She's recently been on strong antibiotics and in some cases they can lead to a urine infection. It's common in older people to cause confusion and forgetfullness so worth checking out. I've known of cases where some elderly are thought to be developing dementia and wise gps have done a urine test and found an infection is causing the symptoms.

Agree with pollyanna on a possible urine infection for your mum.

  • Well it's been a very long day. We were just about to get in the taxi this morning when I noticed the light flashing on the landline. Strange message "£200 and an attempted transaction in Tesco. If you want to cancel this transaction press 1. All very iffy but I pressed 1to cancel.

If my bank phone me they say hi this is Santander and give their name. We were on our way to visit someone before an appointment and then going on to town.

Phoned automatic phone banking when we got there and I think the number dd pulled up on her phone may have been a scam number. There wasn't an option to speak to a customer adviser so we tried a number for the fraud dept. Got a recorded message asking for my account no, sort code and pin so slammed the phone down.

After dds appt we went to my bank branch in town and I spoke to a customer advisor. I had no idea if the card was my current acct or credit card so she checked both my accounts and everything is fine. She told me I could expect a follow up call from the scammers and to ignore it. No use blocking it because they change their phone numbers throughout the day. It seems they would try to trick people to give all their account details in that follow up call. I told her I may be a pensioner but I'm not daft.

Good news is 28 daysfrom putting the prescription in we have the med. As the pharmacy is a few doors from the bank we called in and that young girl came running over with it in her hand as we walked towards the counter. I told her dd is seeing her Dr on Monday as he was elsewhere today. I would be bringing all the repeats and maybe others so at least 19 items. She said she'll make sure they're ready. Hopefully she's right. We did have a laugh she has to ask the patients name but said your name is on my eyelids when I go to bed!

We went to visit someone else and fell in the front door at home about an hour ago. Think we'll sleep tonight :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Hope everyone hasn't had bad weather. Roads were flooded here yesterday but thankfully today was very cold but sunny.

Fingers crossed for your HRT Ss.

Ss, I'm so glad you were able to have a quiet day, you can't continue giving to others if your own tank is empty.

The suggestion of checking your mum for a UTI is a very good one. As the others have said, sometimes confusion is the only symptom in elderly people, so my fingers are crossed that it is something equally fixable for your mum.

Polly, likewise, I'm glad that your daughter finally got her meds! That call does sound like a scam, so thanks for the warning. We have 'Sky shield' on our phone and people phoning from numbers I have not pre-accepted have to give their names before I decide whether to accept the call. It has cut out 100% of the rubbish.

Savvy sewing I too was going to mention urinary tract infection, often in older people the only symptom is confusion.

Polly pleased to hear your dd has her medication.

hb2 I read an article the other day, possibly in Which?, that said some scanners are able to make their number display as banks or other organisations, please still be on your guard.

Thanks, OH and I both had calls a while back pretending to come from HMRC. but it was (supposedly) from the number customers use to call MHRC, not the other way round, which was how we realised it was a scam call and didn't answer. HMRC were aware of the problem and were trying to sort it, but I don't know if they managed to.

SS sorry about your mum! Hopefully it will turn out to be just a UTI, especially as it's happened so suddenly.

Pollyanna So glad to hear that your DD finally has the med she's been waiting for!

I went to help Mum by being in the house while she was to have a shower but she didn't get that far, the temperature was too cold and the door came out of its track, so she had a panic attack and that lost her breathe etc.
It took quite a while to calm her and for her to dress herself.
I had to stay longer to make sure that she was ok before I came home.
I am having a cuppa before the children come home from their visit to other family.
I did manage to blitz two of my kitchen cupboards so only one left to tackle in the morning.

    I am definitely pacing myself.
