Hi & welcome ChasingtheWelshdream . I tend to in January do a fiscal fast where I buy the absolute minimum I can get away with. So until it is no longer possible I will only be purchasing milk, bread & fruit. It tends to lend to interesting meals towards the end of the month!DF as at 30/12/16
Wombling 2025: £87.12
NSD March: YTD: 35
Grocery spend challenge March £253.38/£285 £20/£70 Eating out
GC annual £449.80/£4500
Eating out budget: £55/£420

We may be on fishfinger sandwhiches with a couple of forgotten chicken nuggets on the side by month-end here! :rotfl:0 -

I love a fishfinger sandwich - cannot be beaten. Welcome to you
I've had a rotten night of sleep but on the plus side I don't have a headache this morning.
A few plans for the day ahead - I have already checked my banking, which was  but at least it's done now... I am already looking forward to my council tax free months
Naughty tortie has her annual vaccinations today, already prepaid so hopefully won't be too costly a visit (should be a 0 but she has a habit of costing me a bit).
Other than that I need to keep a tight hold on my finances and a close eye on every penny. Every month is tight at the moment but particularly so with January.
No need for any spending today so aiming for nsd
Continue with better eating and no alcohol.
Nap on the sofa if I need to (but do not miss vet appointment)
Aim to finish my latest crochet project.
Cross one frog off the list.
Have a good day all :coffee:Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control

Morning all
Up eary this morning as FB buyers are supposed to be collecting 2 items by 9.30, and one of them is large and heavy and I have to get other stuff out of the way (outside, I hasten to add - my house isn't quite as cluttered as that )
I have already:
Washed hair with shampoo bar and am allowing it to dry naturally
Emptied dishwasher
Checked banks and updated spreadsheet (some of the direct debit bills have gone out)
Porridge for breakfast with a brown banana
Still to do:
Get my wellies on and move some pots out of the way in the front garden. The item that is going is an old belfast sink planted up. Sounds nice, and it is, but it just doesn't fit with the look of the garden, so it is going. The bit of money I get for it can go towards other garden stuff - consumables such as compost or seeds
OH has a friend coming to visit today, so unfortunately he has determined to go to the supermarket to get something for lunch. In fairness, there are a few things we are running low on, as we haven't been shopping at all since Christmas eve. I will ensure that he is armed with a list so that he doesn't blow my budget!
I need to tidy round and clean the bathroom once my garden removals are done
I really ought to get to my sales unit today, as the shop has reopened and I need to assess what needs to be done. I may do a bargain basement sale and hopefully get rid of some carp I have had for ages
I am sure there will be more, so will be back later to update. Must get those wellies on first though!0 -
Morning all! I have decided to try to post, rather then lurk this year...may I join you? I picked up lots of useful tips from you all last year (ironing after the irons off, saving ends of peppers in the freezer...
) and the thread has been a source of great cheer!
My last day off today so am easing into routines whilst luxuriating in not having to be anywhere anytime.
⛰Determined today to tackle the expenses mountain. It is a Everest of a mountain!
🗻 Also to visit the gym. Someone said on one of these threads this is the last month they have a membership but don’t use it; either go or stop shelling out. I needed that wake up call as i’m now (post lbm) aware its a luxury!
🗻Clean out the Tupperware cupboard. A friend passed on a lot of her old tubs, perfectly serviceable, little ones great for packed lunch. Find it so frustrating not to be able to find lids when you need them but haven’t yet figured out a system that works for me!
🗻 Aiming for a NSD
🗻 Have access to a car for next few days so trying to make use of it to see friends & family / do jobs that are harder without! Though a bit torn as tempted to have a indoors day today. Know I will feel brighter for a walk somewhere though!
🗻 text conversations with friends I don’t catch up with often, new year is a good excuse!
🗻 use up brown bananas, cake probably, but inspired by Dawn will start with porridge!0 -
Morning all!
I haven't caught up with the thread yet but wanted to get a quick post in.
Happy New Year to all! No resolutions here... I was fabulous last year and I intend to stay fabulous this year
I was horrified this morning as I was getting ready for work, to find OH getting up at 7am. This flies in the face of nature.
Small things today:- B/L/D from stores
- Charge phone in work - done
- Gym at lunchtime - done
- OH to do a tip run - done!!
- OH to take down Christmas decs - done!!

Morning! (We've all only just got up - shameful!!:o:o:o) I've realised lie-ins are my big downfall. I really need to start getting up, even just a few minutes earlier and take stock of the day.
DH is back at work for one day so I'm wondering how to amuse the kids without spending.
Dickenslass I feel the same. We need to go out at 2pm for the dentist, and I'm trying to decide whether to laze around or get up and do something while we have the chance. But, it's very icy out and our PJs are very snuggly..:rotfl:
I didn't manage an early night (1.30), but I did get our DDs input into our spreadsheet. It's scary how little we actually need to spend, but end up spending far far more.
So today:
Cook breakfast in oven (this is not as exciting as it sounds. I have an Everhot (similar to an Aga), which is not in anyway moneysaving. But it was a once-in-a-lifetime treat for me when we had funds and I don't regret it one little bit.Basically, the ovens are always on and I'm trying to do all any cooking/heating in those, rather than 'waste' energy with the hob/microwave. It can take a bit of planning, but I reckon might save a few pennies.
[STRIKE]Done - porridge and toast[/STRIKE]
Cancel magazine subscription. Direct Debit audit revealed a 6-monthly subscription that I really don't need. Not done - couldn’t find the paperwork. On list for tomorrow
Washing on, on airer Two loads done, but I had to tumble the kids coats before we went out
Find banking paperwork ready for bank appointment Bank cancelled appointment
Find paying in books for kids + pay their Xmas money into bank Rushed out without their piggy banks, so will do on Friday at re-scheduled appointment
Dentist for all three kids! Survived! Bought them a Costa babychino as a reward. At 55p each including a flake, its a nice treat. I didn’t buy a drink for myself
Shopping list - keep as small as possible Not too bad, but I needed a few store cupboard items and toiletries
Shopping - with kids.....:eek::eek::eek: I went to Aldi’s later on my own!
Dinner from freezer Done
Plan dinner tomorrow, probably gammon out the freezer and slow cook Gammon defrosting overnights
Put eldest kid in charge of baking something nice to have with lunch - probably cookies Done - he made choc chip cookies
Have conversation with Netflix - do we really need it? We have Prime so I don't think we do. Forgit to think about it!
Look at starting a bullet diary. I'm not sure I really understand them yet, but I do love diaries and notebooks so I think it could be a winner.Failed, but I did use some of my pocket money on a nice new diary. I want to keep a record to track my moods each day - which are a bit variable at the moment!
Swimming once DH home (gym membership - a good price through work but I've only been going once a week or so. I need to go twice for it to 'pay' for itself. Done My local pool was closed so I forced myself to drive to the next town and was glad I did. I ended up booking on to a yoga class at 7.30 am tomorrow. It’s all included in the fee so I think I’ll try it. Not sure about the time though..,!
Keep adding to finance 'to do list'. I think our broadband is out of contract now - must look into. Carry over...
Right, better decide whether to PJ this morning or nag the kids to get dressed...... I spent a long time nagging!
Have a lovely day all.Off to bed, late again. Alarm set for 6.30 when no-one else needs to be up!0 -

Good afternoon all and welcome to Chasingthewelshdream & Dickenslass
It seems I'm out of kilter with you all today as its a spend spend spend day here! Dh is back to work today earning thankfully as
1) Ds2 has gone to a martial arts class for the day (£15) (and possibly again Thur/Fri but would be slight discount £25 for those two days)
2) Ds1 has had a growth spurt, so we've been out today to sp0rts direct to get 2 pairs of new trainers (one plain black for school shoes the other for PE) spent more this time but hopefully they'll last a little longer then the cheaper ones we got last time which have been "fixed" with glue a couple of times already. He did look in a couple of shops for a game he wanted to buy (and checked price against amzon) before buying a 2nd hand copy.
3) Popped into icyland to spend vouchers from RM survey as needed bread, got some fishfingers in there too which isn't something we have very often but a definite treat tea! Thought it was funny to see them already mentioned on the thread!
4) Called into B&M to look as ys'd Christmas lights as I needed a couple of new sets they were priced at £14.99 but ys'd to £7 so I got two boxes - checked they worked before putting them upstairs ready to go in the loft when we take everything up later.
Still to dorun the washing machine on the quick 30 degree wash Done
put ^^ on radiators for when they come on later Done
run the dishwasher on the quick wash and empty Done & Done
go through ds1's wardrobe as he's had this grow and see what needs to be replaced needs school trousers, school tshirts, a few t shirts and a pair of jeans - I think we'll go for these tomorrow if ds2 is on his course again as much easier just the two of us going!
clean kitchen using stardrops and micro cloths Done
make sure all sockets are off Done
leftovers for lunch Done, a wrap with some fridge dive filling - enough left for tomorrow too if its just me and ds1
leftover stew with either mash or dumplings for tea Done
make dh & ds2 a packed lunch for tomorrow Done
look at George online to see if they have different waisted school trousers Done, going to look in m&s tomorrow as I have a voucher for them and George doesn't look like it has what I was after
check banking - this really shouldn't be at the bottom of my list!! Done
Take care all
