  • Morning all :hello: happy new year, you lovely lot. Hope it brings, health, wealth and happiness :D

We had a lovely night in with some dear friends who bought some contributions so not spendy at all and we have some food left over for today too. My list today:

    Triage fridge
    Leftovers for lunch and tea
Popcorn and movie tonight with the smalls
Go for a run part of REDjanuary
Take a screen shot of my budget/account tracker so I can see where we were on 1st Jan in the future to look back to
    Some washing
    Start sorting garage

Have a good day folks. Purps.

Morning all and Happy New Year

I've also not made any resolutions. I figure that if somethig needs changing, why wait intil 1st Jan?

And I like the sound of a popcorn and movie night. Christmas til now has been lovely, but manic. And I need to just stop. In that vein, I booked in a family breakfast at a local cafe with the OH and kids for tomorrow morning. I know that doesn't sound very DFW but it's not an expensive place and with OH doing 12 hour shifts that have no pattern to them, I've decided to grab the opportunity between today and last night's day shift, and tomorrow's night shift

    Today's plans are....

    - Add more veg leftovers to dog's dinners and reduce the biscuit
    - Food from stores
    - Tidy kitchen
    - Dry washing on indoor airers (I became reliant on the tumble dryer and need to break this habit)
    - Small bedroom tidy
    - Start on loft.
    - Chill out with kids and (probably sleeping) OH this evening with a movie and popcorn/snacks - all from stores

    Afternoon all :)
    Happy New Year everyone :)
    Today looks like this:
Not been out, or spent anything :A

Folded up washing and put it ready for my brother to collect (I seem to have inherited his washing from when he was staying here). I don't mind doing an extra load of washing once a week, if it helps him out :) If he wants it ironed, it is down to him though!!!!
Sold an item on FB marketplace and listed another
Made leek and potato soup for lunch, using leeks from the garden and a splash of leftover cream. And there is enough for lunch tomorrow as well :)
Did some tidying up in the garden, cut down dead tarragon stems and swept up leaves from lower patio, watered some of the greenhouse plants, washed down the end of the path where the dog wees :o and added some more compost to the containers the garlic plants are growing in. Moved some sprouting crocus bulbs from a pot (part of a set that is being sold) to a space under a little apple tree :)
    Another load of washing
Started a shopping list - though I won't be going tomorrow!
Will make fish gratin for dinner using cheap frozen salmon fillets that have been in the freezer for ages - won't be buying those again as they are not exactly tasty, but as I have them, they will be used. I think I will flavour them with tarragon, which will have to be the dried sort, as the fresh dies down in the winter.
Also need to sort out the RM surveys items for the next few days, after the Christmas break.

Good evening all and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We did stay up with the kids til Midnight, we watched 2 Tomb raider films, had nibbles, lots of cuddles and giggles before watching the fireworks on the tele. It was a lovely way to end the year.

We all slept until about 8am had a slow get up and pottered for a couple of hours til my parents came for bacon baguettes (another use up - my use up box is nearly empty now!) I had some coleslaw with mine, others had ratatouille with theirs.
We then watched Victoria & Abdul with my parents before cooking another turkey dinner. Mum brought some ys mince pies for dessert.

Dishwasher running again on the quick wash
All sockets off at the wall were possible/not in use
Ordered dh a sim card as his contracts ending, going from £14/month to £5
    Opened new regular saving account
Text ds2s instructor to see if there was space on a martial arts course thats running for the rest of the week, there is space so he's really happy and it means he's going to be out of the house all day being physically active :T:T:T I will have to drag the other ds away from the games console!

    Still need to
 Make a packed lunch for dh & ds2 for tomorrow
 Share bath water, leave hair to dry naturally and continue use up of lotions and potions
 Settle down to watch the Worlds strongest man final and Dr Who with dh this evening before he's back to work tomorrow

    Take care all.

    Hi all,
Today"s efforts (only just sat down!):
    *Eating up leftovers.
*Froze a carton of leftovers to provide a hot work lunch for mr f when he goes back.
*Two baths from one lot of hot water.
*Wrote 2 letters - used recycled envelopes.
*Swapped all my stuff into my new bargainaceous handbag.
*Moved my HQ room around which also involved finding a new home for my yarn stash.
*Loads more shredding - saved a bag full for worm composter.
*2019's decluttering has commenced. Large bag ready to go to charity shop.
*Bagged up a couple of bags of change from the shrapnel pot.
*Sorted out a bag of nice bedding & towels I brought from my parents' house recently on one of our sorting & clearing visits.
*Planted a bag of narcissi bulbs I received for Christmas. Late for planting these so fingers crossed.
*Also planted gifted amaryllis bulb for nice indoor colour in a couple of months.
*Gave mr f a big storage box for a useful round up of household bulbs, batteries, cables, etc. So many brought from Mum's house - I just couldn't waste them, so they will be used here.
*Cut up 2 old towels for the rag bag, as they make good free cleaning cloths.
*GIfted posh pudding to enjoy tonight.
*Also enjoy reading charity shop novel.
Really most of today has been spent sorting & decluttering. I've unearthed various resources but those can wait till my dfw diary update.
    Happy New Year Friends,
    F xx

Just had a count up and I have £26 of Love to Shop vouchers earned from various survey sites, despite having used a few ££ worth before Christmas. I will be using these over the next few weeks for shopping in Iceland, which seems to be the only supermarket that accepts them.

By the way, I know a few regular posters on this thread were, like me, collecting used postage stamps for the RSPB Albatross appeal. Unfortunately it now says on their web site that they aren't accepting ordinary used stamps any more, just albums and collections :(
However, a quick google tells me that Macmillan, the cancer charity are requesting them, so I have sent my stash to them instead. Details at https://www.macmillan.org.uk/fundraising/inyourarea/england/west_yorkshire/local_news/donateyourstampsandhelppeopleaffectedbycancer.aspx if anyone is interested.

    Good Evening All

Today feels like it's been a great day, chilly but very sunny at times. Had a lie-in as it appears I can no longer do late nights and early mornings :rotfl:

    Today we have:

    Checked Bank & made PAD
Visited cemetary for DH's parents (our NY's day tradition)
Had a fabulous walk in glorious sunshine around one of our local reservoirs
Collected mum and brought her back to ours for a few hours for a lovely roast beef dinner (which I enjoyed a lot more than our Christmas dinner)
Made mum a banana cake (bananas were almost wasted and we definitely can't have that!)
    Plan goals/jobs list for January
    Entered a few comps
    Purged a few emails
    Swagbucks
    All meals from cupboards/fridge/freezer
    Checked: Lucky Bob, FPL, WinaDinner
    Crack on with library book

Happy New Year to you all, off to enjoy Luther ;)

  • Good evening all - can I join in please?

I've been lurking for a while and all your little DFW ideas have been one of my favourite daily reads. I love how they keep you all on track and seeing you tick your lists off each day. I would like to do the same thing get my act together each day.

I'm going to start a debt free diary as I am very good at focussing on the negatives and not seeing what I've actually achieved. Plus, being surrounded by small and grown men, no-one else in my house is even remotely interested in the little things like washing on the line. :rotfl:

Anyway, our big focus this year is to stop wasting money and (after taking inspiration from you lot), had a (nearly) spend free day in Aberystwyth, which is a fairly long but lovely drive away. The kids ran off lots of energy at the castle and jumping the waves. I made a picnic and a flask of tea, avoided our usual temptation of a coffee shop/dinner out/snacks/penny arcade, and took just £5 cash wallet with me so I couldn't cheat with a card. Total cost: £2.67 on some Mcdonalds chips to keep the kids going on the journey home. (All the fish and chip shops were closed! )

Made some pigs-in-blankets-toad-in-the-hole (I forgot to cook them at Xmas), a load of washing on the airer with dehumidifier going.

Payday was yesterday so need to do a big, big, budget to pay off our debts this year. DH is in charge of the spreadsheet, but I do all the banking (he always forgets his log-in details), so it could be interesting!:rotfl:

I need to do a proper shop tomorrow, so will be doing our first meal plan and see how little I can buy.

I don't really go in for new years resolutions, but I am going to try to start getting enough sleep by actually going to bed at a decent time and not in the small hours.

Anyway, thanks again for this little daily thread - I really look forward to it each day. I hope I can be as organised as you lot!:)

Welcome ChasingtheWelshdream, we like to see new people here :)
Hopefully you will stay around - loving the sound of pigs in blankets toad in the hole by the way, I will have to remember that one!
