Hi all
Bit chilly here today but stuck to walking to work, Feeling like I have Friday night tiredness but on a Wednesdaygoodness only knows what I will be like by Friday.
NSD – 5/15
Make plans for the month – work today and took a packed lunch again so no additional outings
Always pay your debts first – budget for food set – DD’s updated and no spends
List your frogs – no frogs today
Little savings – £1.55p today into the 365 day penny challenge
Chill out – watching all three episodes of Manhunt tonight. I can’t stand waiting for the next episode of things so I record them until they have finished then binge watch 😊
Helping others – will do
Always be grateful – 3 things I am grateful for are:
- for my friend at work giving me a laugh
- for DH doing the dishes before I came home
- for left over turkey to make a delicious risotto for tea tonight
New to You – continuing to read my kindle stock
Get involved – checking in
Exercise – steps done
Sort it out – soup and a sandwich for lunch today and then chicken and mushroom risotto for dinner.0 -
Hi all:j
NSDs – Aiming for 10 as am going away on 22nd for a few days (Christmas treat) : Now 6/ 10
Make plans for the month – Planned visit to Barcelona later in the month. Rail ticket & plane already paid for. Decided to stay home tomorrow then go out for lunch on Friday.
Always pay your debts first – No debts but do use a cc which is paid in full every month...need to rein this in, spending has been frightful of late..CC paid off in full, now need to make sure it doesn't rack up to those levels this month. No spends today.
List your frogs – Started another very large frog this week, but am pleased with progress. (Clearing bedroom). During this also found a brand new sealed cover for the sofa bed promised to DD (could be 2 items out of the house!!) and also a brand new fitted jersey sheet....treasure. Sofa bed & cover gone to DDs house & installed there, very happy with that. May also get rid of 2 chairs that her housemates mum admired, tbc.
Little Savings – Put in a £2 coin that I had in my change the other day, will get cash out & pay in to bank. Joined 1p challenge..Will add to moneybox tonight. Also have some money in TCB, meant to access for Christmas but didn't so it should have mounted up. Need to work out how to withdraw it to obtain max benefit. Tomorrow for this. Still not done...
Chill out – working on this. One of my frogs is to start doing some complex knitting...as I am supposed to be doing a 'knitalong'. So far have not even started. Pressure on knitalong as second section now posted online, have not even done tension square yet. hmm. Chilling out today with friends' visit & having a catch up re the holidays.
Helping others – nothing today, unless you count helping friend.
Always be grateful – Grateful for today:
- Sofabed & cover leaves the building
- good friend calling round
- feeling rested & easy meal from stocks
New to You – Have more than enough of pretty much everything clothes wise etc but still looking online, forced self not to purchase. Will need printer ink soon as all run out. Will be shopping tomorrow but don't need much. Done food shopping but still will be going to the big store tomorrow with DD....do not intend to buy .. OK did buy so no NSD again today. However, DD wants a sofa bed so offered her the one in the sunroom...if it works will get more space & she gets a free item win-win. DD brought some packets of porridge she no longer eats but I will. Lots of things I will be able to wear should I lose some weight. Surely that should be an incentive? Have told DH no clothes handbags or shoe purchases this year....he said he is the same Lets see if we stick to it! Still sticking to it, fairly well.
Get involved – I'm here!
Exercise – None today.
Sort it out – Need to do this & will be eating from stuffed freezers & cupboards for January. Ate something from freezer for supper & made do with stuff in fridge for lunch. DH helped with jammed freezer drawers - it was on his list...caused by me going into unlit garage & fighting off 2 dogs whilst removing/adding stuff to upright freezer, then quickly shutting door. Not easy..But now have inventory of that freezer other than top drawer, amazing amount of food it holds!! Still eating from stocks but will be minimal shopping tomorrow for fresh stuff. Just bought a small amount of fresh food, couple of YS items & vits. No sorting today yet but may do some before bed.
GO Turtles!!!!New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Long haul DFW #145 : 2011 DEBTBUSTING : £5500 OD GONE, £2000 OD - GONE £93,610.30 cc & loan debt - GONE 27.6.14 FINALLY DEBT & MORTGAGE FREE :happyhear0 -
Spend free days (NSD’s) – I'm going to aim for 20 as money is going to be pretty tight this month - still on 6/20 as spent today on meal out, shopping and new running shoes.
Make plans for the month – I've got a couple of things planned for this month but will make sure that they are as low budget as possible - Spent £14, was incredibly good value as got main, pudding, coffee and soft drink for that price.
Always pay your debts first – Budget is done for January and debt payment has been made - £1.76 added today.
List your frogs – Made a start on this and will add to the list as I think of more - nothing done yesterday.
Little savings – I've added a whole £2.50 to my emergency fund taking it to £9.50 :rotfl:, will continue to add as I can - £2 added, now at £14.
Chill out – Will aim to read a bit every day. I've also got a few adult colouring books which have been sitting there for ages so will aim to do some colouring in too - nothing today.
Helping others – I've set up a charity donation which will come out at the start of the month. I'll also add items to the food bank whenever I'm in the supermarket - bought a big issue and put a couple boxes of cereal and some rice into the food bank collection.
Always be grateful – Will post 3 gratitudes each day. - feeling better, a lovely meal out with friends, day off work
New to You – Me and OH are planning to do a huge sort though of all our stuff, there's still unopened boxes from when we moved in, who knows what treasures we might find- nothing done today.
Get involved – I always struggle with daily posting but will try this month - I'm here
Exercise – I really need to get back into exercising regularly. I got some vouchers for Christmas to get more running shoes so that will be my first step - running shoes have been bought. Walked into town and back which is 45 minutes each way.
Sort it out – I don't really have anything in the cupboards lurking that doesn't get used except spices but will aim to use up some of them - nothing used.Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.8.25 - £106,362.86
Mortgage overpayment savings - £2.11/£50
Mortgage overpayments so far - £675.980 -
Hi Turtles,
DawnW -
I got the extra few bits for that cake recipe you suggested yesterday , its not for another few weeks but I'll let you know how I get on.
Kerry Woman
I hope you get a better response from this GP.
Today is not a NSD as hub is getting his ears lowered but I'm hoping that's it for the week then. Went to Aldi & Tesco last night & did a huuuge shop, bought a lot of YS & our cupboards & freezer are full to bursting.I am hoping that next week I'll just need fruit & milk.
I need to tackle another frog this weekend but on the whole doing well with them.
Helping others- off to the hospital I volounteer for tomorrow for an hour or two.
New to you- went to CEX yesterday & bought my kids some figures for 25- 50p each . They're meant to attach to a wii or something but they just love the figures. So I'm pretty popular in my house & weve spent next to nothing. Also, DSs bed came yesterday, 100 quid & its really fab with two weelie storage units underneath & like new. :j.
Grateful for- a good day at work yesterday , my kids being over the moon with their new to them beds & the fact we could provide them on such a small budget & for my toddlers squishy cheeks when he cuddles me they squish into my face :A0 -
Hi Turtles,

I got the extra few bits for that cake recipe you suggested yesterday , its not for another few weeks but I'll let you know how I get on.
I hope you enjoy it. It is easy to make and like all the Nigella recipes I have tried, always works, despite the recipe being a bit odd. It is yummy too, and much more chocolatey (is that a word?) than it sounds0 -
Definitely check out cashback offers - I got our landlord insurance last year for £126 (improved cover on what I'd had, too) - and then got £94.50 cashback on it - net cost of just over £30
(and was with a 'known' co - M00re than, from memory)
ETA: Oooh - and yoga mats were in the central aisle in A1di last week - suspect L1dl have similar offers on at this time of year, too
Thanks greent. As much of an MSE aficionado i feel I am, I underuse cashback offers for sure. I'll defo look into this and thanks for the yoga mat suggestion toomothernerd wrote: »Speky Manchester has lots to support the homeless. One of our local selling pages suggested before Christmas that anyone heading for a night out should dig out an old warm coat and pass it on to someone in need.
There is an all year shelter in the crypt of Manchester Cathedral who always want volunteers and they may have advice about other organisations and ways to help. BIg Issue in the North also has an office and also need volunteers.(just buy a copy from a vendor for details).
You could ask at work for donations from anyone whose relatives can't think past socks (homeless people have foot problems when as they don't have always have access to washing facilities, are often on their feet all day and need spare socks in order to be able to change and wash the ones they have. Volunteering with the homeless is not for the faint hearted but very worthwhile.
I started looking yesterday and came across Barnabus, not sure if you've heard of them, but I'll do some further research to see what they require and if and when I can fit it in. Thank you too for the advice.
Yesterday was 6/17, and I see no reason why I can't get 7/17 today.
My health kick is well and truly underway and I'm craving sugary goodness so much but it's genuinely the threat of wasting a NSD that stops me, my little way of showing of how this challenge works for me.
I actually shouldn't spend until Saturday and even then, I might get away without spending. Feeling super motivated.
Spend free days (NSD’s) – Today is 7/17
Always be grateful;
- My football boots. They were expensive when I bought them earlier this year but they're very comfortable and will last me for ages.
- The MSE newsletter. I'm needing some new glasses and the latest offer (2 for £15) is unbelievable.
- Fixing my electric razor.
- A tidy and organised house.0 -
Spend free days (NSD’s)
I don't usually have a problem, but I'm buying the Sun every day for the caravan holiday tokens, so every day has *some* spend for quite a while.
Make plans for the month
Crucial to me as a retired person. Went to an exhibition yesterday, and my diary has a lot of days filled in with U3A groups I belong to now.
Always pay your debts first
No debts, but I'm working hard on rejigging my accounts now I'm retired.
List your frogs
I hate the rejigging accounts, but I'm making myself do it. Enabling the card reader for my new current account is part of that for today.
Little savings
I'm very conscious about saving money, though one thing I didn't do yesterday was buy a super off peak travelcard instead of an ordinary off peak travelcard - that flexibility is important when travelling to London with someone else, and I'm prepared to pay for that.
Chill out
Not the easiest thing in the world, I'm not great at it. Must try harder.
Helping others
Nothing yesterday
Always be grateful
That I can still get into London when I want to, that I have the rail fare money to do so, that I have my own house where I can hole up afterwards.
New to You
Such a lot. Clearing the garden enough to plant some perennials; preparing for Family History Writing Month; preparing for my kitchen renovation; imagining a bucket list of where I might like to visit, independently from what family want to do.
Get involved
I struggle. I try! I do read here, though.
Exercise
I used to work from home and nearly always went out for a lunchtime walk. Now I'm retired, I don't do it as much, maybe because I'm out the other days, or working so hard on the garden. But the garden isn't cardio, I need that walk. Will do that today.
Sort it out
Definitely doing this in the kitchen, especially for the renovation.
2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Thought i posted yesterday. Must have lost it.
Still at 6/20 NSD. Bought satsumas yesterday and had tesc0 delivery today.
Don't seem to have done much at all really. Went to fat club yesterday and lost 2lb. Enjoyed the walk even though it was cold there was blue sky and sunshine.
Came home and had a mug of homemade soup.
Going to e-bay some things I found in the cupboard of doom. Didn't go in there just grabbed the first things I came to :rotfl::rotfl:
Take care everyone.

NSD's in August 11/200 -
I've been away with work so have missed a couple of days reporting.
Spend free days (NSD’s) – Aiming for 15 - 3/15 Not doing as well on this as expected to this month
Make plans for the month – Added a possible cinema visit at the weekend but have 2 free tickets and plenty of sweets so only a ticket for DS to buy and I have a budget for this
Always pay your debts first – awaiting BT to go through, no more DDs to go out yet. Added a few pounds to the virtual pot to clear my carpet finance early
List your frogs –No progress while I have been away. If I can get internet access in the airport tomorrow will try and sort out my energy comparison and sim only phone deal
Little Savings – Added £2.16 to my piggies
Chill out – No chance to chill out much this week yet! Will do some reading when travelling tomorrow
Helping others – nothing done today
Always be grateful – Today I am grateful for:
1) This morning's meeting been cancelled so I was home by lunchtime
2) The delicious GF sticky toffee pudding I had yesterday
3) DH feeling much better and going back to work
New to You – need to revisit the task set and make some progress this weekend
Get involved – Hello turtles
Exercise – first running club tonight, I'm a bit nervous as I missed the first session
Sort it out – DH has lived out of the freezer while he's been ill and I was away and has said there is enough to keep him going all monthMy lovely freezer list will not be UTD though.

Been struggling with anxiety and headaches for the past few days but I have brought out the sun lamp this afternoon.
Managed a run last night and ran the furthest I have run in a long time, I am re-doing couch to 5 k after a few years of not running, feeling very excited and energised about it as I would prefer to do running instead of paying a gym membership.
Actually made my list of frogs and will try and do at least one this weekend.
9 NSDs so far, today was my first spend day but I only spent £1.20 on breakfast. Going to keep on keeping on, planning to do NSD's until Tuesday now.0
