Sft.....no I didn't see that recipe. The thing is, just like mashed potatoes, mashed butter beans lend themselves to all sorts of flavourings. They are very versatile and they have a lovely creamy taste and texture.
I think you are right though, we need to listen to our bodies. And we do need good carbs......Good carbs give us energy, however sugary carbs don't really have any real nutritional value.
I think if we listen to our bodies they tell us what they need......I have learned to do this at long last, not just with diet, but with rest and sleep as well, staying hydrated, moving and stretching. It's only taken me a lifetime..
Today I have been reading about the word "discipline". We often think of discipline as being something that inhibits us or which stops us being spontaneous and doing what we want, but actually by being disciplined it can set us free and enable us to make our dreams come true.
One delicious high quality chocolate is divine, 12 makes us feel awful. One glass of Prosecco is delicious, a whole bottle full just gives us an almighty hangover. Spending money on mediocrity is wasteful and often meaningless. The high we get from buying soon fades and is often followed by guilt, buyers remorse, disappointment and dissatisfaction. Far better to Exercise a little restraint and discipline and save our pennies for something that is truly beautiful that we will adore and cherish.
Re "hating" bits of ourselves. I have to say I find that very sad. It's a sad reflection of a "lookist" society, where so much pressure has been applied to women to achieve some beauty ideal. Now of course men are starting to feel the same pressure to achieve the same impossibily high standards of beauty. No one should hate themselves or their own bodies.
I'm 68 this year. TBH, after watching what my husband went through, how a once healthy and virile body simply wasted away, I'm just glad to be alive and healthy. I am reminded everyday that aging is a priveledge which many are denied. I like my body, warts and all. I am proud of it, yes even my facial scars. They are my badges of honour, of battles fought and won.
Having said that, I would like better teeth :rotfl: but that's up to me. I need to do what Luxury Woman has done.....just bite the bullet and put my money where my mouth is......literally.:rotfl: This year........
I hope you don't think I'm coming over as preachy and all sanctimonious but please, please, all of you, don't torture yourselves about a few minor imperfections. Fix them if you can, or if you can't, then learn how to camoflage them or use distraction techniques. Make the most of your good points and play down the bad.
I was born with a red angry birthmark on my face but I learned how to make the best of a bad job. It certainly never held me back, and it never stopped men finding me attractive. Half the time they never even noticed it. :rotfl:
Embrace your quirks, they are what make you unique.0 -
Good morning lovely ladies
Maman. I realised I hadn't answered your question about the Beauty Flash Balm. I tend to use it in addition to moisturiser because my skin can be very dry.
I apply moisturiser, allow it to sink in - at least 10 minutes and then apply the balm on top. You can put foundation on top of the balm but I find it gives me a nice healthy "glow" so I don't usually need to.
Still cold and windy here. I have got plenty to do to keep me occupied.. I will give myself a facial at some point.
Have a great day.0 -
Belated Happy birthday Maman - hope you had a lovely day
Still keeping up with my kitchen exercises and I am improving! Need to get my hair cut , luckily I have found a girlie who does it the way I like. Trying to get my totally ruined nails looking half respectable other than that only basic maintenance being done!
Keep fabbing ladies!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Well being put in my place about something I said as a positive comment to someone else, reassuring that we all have "something" has made me feel just great. After the last couple of months it was just what I needed LL so thanks for that.
Obviously being bothered about teeth is so much more worthy than someone feeling their feet or neck or whatever is less than perfect.
I realise why I wasn't coming on here while things were so bad for me.
Have fun.0 -
For people interested in reading magazines, there is a website called ‘readly’ where you can sign up for about £8 month and get access to loads of titles online. Worth a look.
I have just started a Latin class through the u3A which is bringing back lots of memories of school! It’s difficult but nice to be with a group of other women interested in the subject too. I am finding the translations totally absorbing and a source of mindfulness. There are about twelve of us and I would guess a couple are nudging 80! Very inspirational.0 -
Morning,
I have Readly Flo, it’s great.
I loved your post LL, excellent words. The only bit of me I hate is my teeth, for years I’ve felt tortured by them. Can’t actually wait until tomorrow. My feet just need a scrub, moisture and nail polish. I’ve never met a beautiful foot yet :rotfl::rotfl:
Found a beautiful wafty robe in online sale, of course it was sold out. I really fancy myself wafting around in the morning in a silky robe.
I’ll keep looking, I probably have around £100 in points and vouchers to get lovely free stuff but I don’t want to waste them.0 -
I have to look for that bean mash recipe, it sounds right up my street.:)
I am down 4 pounds now. The weight loss is so shockingly slow, though. When I used to do WW I often lost 5 pounds a week! The joys of being middle aged as I was around 30 then.:D
I am starting acupuncture next week. The only thing is that I didn't realise you had to be almost naked to do it. I asked and they said I could just wear my bra and knickers and it is with a male doctor.I hope it will be okay and not cringeful.:rotfl:

Where are they going to put the needles. I get my knee and shoulder done. If I cannot wear a skirt for easy access to my knees then I too have to strip down to bra and pants. I do wear a sleeveless vest top though so I feel a little less vulnerable. I've never been asked to remove it.
If I'm wearing trousers or jeans then I just sort of drape them across the top of my thighs and my er hem "personal area". Again it helps me feel a little less exposed and the male doctor can still get access to my knees.
Well done on the weight loss, 4lbs is brilliant.
I got my slimming book out and have been experimenting. I've made a large veg shepherds pie, (with butter bean mash) and a butternut squash curry. The shepherds pie is "free" and a portion of curry is about 3 because of the coconut milk. But as I eat cauliflower rice and not proper rice that will mean it's still a low count for a meal.
So far so good. I think I've lost another lb. so 3.5 so far.
It's wild here and we are about as inland as you can get. It must be really stormy along the coast. Hope you are all ok. It is supposed to blow itself out later today. I'll check for structural damage when it's over. :rotfl:
Humptydumptybits.......I am sorry if my post offended you. That certainly was not my intention. It was in no way directed at you personally and should not be taken as a critique.
Yes your comments about body hatred spurred me to write but it was meant as a general post to everyone, to exhort us all to be kind to ourselves and to ignore the pressure that the ayotollahs of the Beauty industry try to lay on us.
I think that The media and the beauty industry have a lot to answer for. Self harm and self loathing is rife, even men are becoming susceptible to low esteem, distorted body image, and eating disorders. And we've all seen pretty young women who are ruining their faces with unnecessary cosmetic procedures.
LW my teeth ......those that I have left are actually quite attractive. I always had pretty teeth but they were weak teeth and have not lasted as they should have. Mind, my childhood excesss sweet eating won't have helped. They are also extremely sensitive again so I really need to get them sorted soon. I'm just such a coward. :rotfl:
I treated myself to a navy silk robe, it's great for holidays, it takes up hardly any space. I got it from amazon.
I am really looking forward to buy some nice undies when I've lost weight. Some nice "lingerie" rather than merely functional underwear ...:rotfl:
I had to smile.......one of my friends has just met Mr Right. First thing she did was go out and buy new undies.
I wonder why :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

I'm not sure as I didn't ask.:o I think it might be on my back from where he was pointing.
I think I might have to buy some knickers that are more like shorts for next time.
They do give you towels to drape over yourself but it obviously won't really hide anything if I'm in my underwear.
I used to get full body massages from men so I shouldn't be so shy about it. I used to take my bra off for that.:p2025 GOALS

Short type knickers sound like a great idea.
My copy of the Tweakments guide has arrived so I'll curl up with that later. Going to give myself a facial first.
I ate some of the shepherds pie for lunch, it was nice. It made 6 portions so plenty for the freezer. Hopefully I will get about 6 portions of curry too.
Whilst the weather is iffy this week I plan to spend some time in kitchen, cooking up a storm. Then hopefully I will have plenty of low or free point home made food in the freezer, so all I have to do is add veg or salads.
Taking a leaf out of Mamans book and getting organised at last.0
