Good afternoon lovely ladies.
Well....the Interview!!!
It was scheduled for around 11 to 11.30 at a local hotel where The interviewer and I were to meet.
I arrived at 10.50. I left at 12.00 noon in disgust. The interviewer failed to show up, not a word of explanation.
Would a quick phone call or text really have been so difficult. :rotfl:
Not impressed.
One thing is for sure...........I am now resolved, more than ever, to go self employed and start a little sideline business.
Anyway thanks for your well wishes, you are all so kind. But.....I think I can do better striking out on my own.
I can always tighten the belt a couple of extra notches if I have to.
Luckily I am not in desperate need of a salary and there's still some wriggle room in the budget.
Slept badly (of course, nerves:rotfl:) so I'm just going to potter now, do a bit of ironing and tidy up a bit. Then an easy evening and an earlyish night.0 -
LL how disappointing for you, but I am sure you will eventually become your own boss0

I certainly feel like it.....but it has at least helped me make up my mind. I will focus on me and what I want. No working for someone else.
I am very lucky in that I don't have to work. I can pick and choose. Alas my son is not quite so blessed.
I have just heard that DS2 is being messed around with his new job too. delaying his start date by two weeks. Now that has made me angry.
The trouble is, unless you have highly specialised skills that are in demand, then employers have it all their own way at the moment. They can call the shots.
It's ok for me I don't have to work but I feel so sorry for people who don't have my financial independence and who cannot really afford to be without employment for long.
As soon as DS2 can set up his own business the better.
I know being self employed isn't for the feint hearted, it can be spasmodic and it can be stressful. Not everyone has the emotional equipment to be sanguine about quiet periods when work is slow, at least not until the business is firmly established.
But at least being employed means you can call the shots and have a say in controlling your own destiny.
My poor sons girlfriend has thrown a wobbly over this.
No one in her family has ever been self employed or switched careers, it's all new and scary to her and she feels very insecure. The delayed start date has only increased her fears and it is going to be a cause of friction, spoiling their holiday. They go away tomorrow. It couldn't have come at a worse time for her. Luckily he does have a war chest to cover times like this but she is just very very nervous.0 -
I have just worked out a deal with my son.......
I need a handyman. He's going to be out of work for two weeks.
I have told him he's mine for 2 weeks and I will match his current wage.
It's not charity. I need help and I would much rather pay him than a complete stranger. .....
It's win-win. I get good quality work at mates rates and he doesn't have to dip into his savings.
And his girlfriend gets to sleep a bit easier. Bless her.0 -
What an eventful day LL. Sorry to hear about the interview that never was.
I'd be wary of working for an employer that behaved like that. They've fallen badly at the first hurdle.:( As chanie said, they need to impress you.
That seems like a good resolution all round for your son. I can see how it would be good for him to start a business but he does need experience in his new field. As he's not shy of working hard, maybe he could do a few domestic jobs for people at the same time as working for an employer. It's all about getting experience and building a CV. I suppose insurance might be very expensive though?? Certainly something to look into. Anyway, what matters now is that you've sent him off on his holiday feeling better.
I've had a couple of busy days so today it's been good to relax a bit. We went to a lunch party on Monday. A group of us got together and took something each for a buffet. We all sat around and ate and chatted and then sat in the garden and drank and chatted some more. Lovely way to spend the afternoon.:)
Yesterday was not so enjoyable but necessary. I had to go to a funeral which involved quite a long, tiring day. It was the mum of my close girlfriend. I did know the mum but mainly I needed to be there for my friend as her family have been very difficult with her over the past few weeks (years even) and she needed moral support. I was so glad I went. Reminiscent of sistergate LL.
The bathroom is nearly finished. The water board are meant to be here tomorrow to do the connection to the meter. After that it's just bits and pieces. It could have been finished a week or more ago but he's been treading water (dreadful pun!!) a bit because he knew he couldn't finish the job until the new pipework was connected.
Must go and start dinner. Back soon.:)0 -
How rude LL! I can't believe that people/companies behave like that. Better that you found out sooner rather than later though for sure.
And what a good idea for your son to do that for a fortnight - I wish that I had someone to do that for me. I have loads of jobs needing done that I don't have the time or inclination for.Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control
