    Hello lovely ladies

Thought I'd try CBD oil for my aches and pains. Normally I just have a couple of doses to take the edge off. This time I have been taking it for longer, today is the 3rd day. Big mistake, my tummy is so not happy. Intended to cut the grass today, it will have to wait. Feel terrible.:(.

Interesting about the bamboo pillowcases. My son has taken to buying bamboo t shirts. They cost a bit more but they are lovely.

Nice evening but very tired and lethargic today (even without the tummy upset). Just going to take it easy.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling too good LL. It seems unfair that medication you take for one ailment causes another to flare up. :( I suppose it's all about a balancing act like sugarbaby said.

It's a good thing that film is one of your hobbies sugarbaby. I realise you have to feel well enough to travel but once you're in the cinema you can relax. I've been reading about the new film about Lowry which I'd like to see. It seems odd that the same actor (Timothy Spall) played JMW Turner in the film about that artist. I wonder if he's artistic at all in real life.:)

Thanks for the bathroom feedback chanie. Our bathroom is small too which is why leaving it as uncluttered as possible will help to make it look more spacious. I think I may put a basket on the window sill to have everyday essentials in easy reach and try to put everything else away.

Do let us know what the pillowcases are like when they arrive Wednesday. I've got bamboo socks and they're so lovely and soft even after drying indoors in the winter. :) I've taken a pillow with me on holiday (not in a plane though). When we used to regularly rent houses/stay in hotels in France the pillows can be dreadful. Often you'd only get one of those cylinder shaped bolsters. :(

I called round to see DD1 this morning. She's had a few weeks off work and has been busy decorating her bedroom. Not only have she and DGD hung wallpaper for the first time but they also put together Ikea wardrobes and chests of drawers. I'm really proud of what they've achieved. :T

Easy day here. We rarely go out on Sundays so I just potter about and make us a lovely dinner. I'll miss Poldark tonight:cry:. I watched that Sanditon programme last week. Not too impressed but I do like some lightweight period drama on a Sunday evening so I'll probably stick with it. :)

I got a message from Bob the builder yesterday, saying He's lost someone very close to Him, so isn't working at the mo!!I understand that, but just wish He'd let me know earlier, so I could've found someone else:(

    Hi Fabbers,

We are officially in Autumn, DDs birthday is out of the way and the children go back to school in a few days time.

My birthday is fast approaching, and it’s the big 4-0. My plan was to save lots of money and go on a big shopping spree, but the MSE in me refused to pay full price for the items I wanted, so I got them on offer as and when I saw them (saving nearly £400). I have bought a bag, perfume, make up and jewellery, which I have put away until my birthday.

I haven’t quite decided what I’m going to do on my actual birthday yet. I’m tempted to go for a posh spa day, but it feels a bit rushed trying to fit it in on my actual birthday, as we have other plans, so I may have a treatment more locally and do a posh spa when I have more time.

I’m planning a day trip to Calais in a few weeks time. I haven’t done it in years and I thought it best to do so before Brexit! I think we will just have a wander around the hyper market and go for lunch somewhere. Has anyone done this and do you have any tips.

How exciting chanie and how typical that you're being so mse.:T

I've only driven through Calais from the ferry. Will you be driving to France? If you are I'd drive on either to St Omer or further along the coast to Boulogne where the old town is attractive for lunch. I enjoy a wander around any of the French supermarkets just to see how they compare with ours. Like sugarbaby said earlier, the value of the pound is poor at the moment so I don't think you will be getting bargains though. I like to buy basics like dried herbs with French labels so that when I use them they remind me of my trip. :)

    Good morning lovely ladies

Chanie. Your birthday celebrations sound wonderful. Some fantastic ideas.

Candy.. sorry to hear about your builder. Will you put everything on hold now until after your holiday.

Re bathrooms. I personally don't like to see lot of toiletries on display but I suppose it all depends on how much storage space and how many people using the bathroom. Baskets can come in handy. :rotfl:

Thankfully my tummy is a bit more settled now. It really floored me yesterday. Ended up just reading most of the day and didn't achieve very much at all. Need to play catch up today.

Yea LL, I'm leaving it until next year now. With everything else that's been going on, healthwise etc, I'm going to just enjoy Goa , n try to get better :D
Good news is that the Indian Visa price has been reduced dramatically, so I can now get a 5 year visa, for less than the old price of a 1 year one:eek:
Glad you're tums a bit better LL :D

  • The pillowcases don't feel silky or satiny but they are very soft and comfortable. They kind of feel like they mould to your head so it doesn't move around on the pillow.

I'm so glad it's Autumn and that summer is now officially over. I love this time of year.

    Good morning lovely ladies.....

Thanks Candy. I feel tons better. Slept for 1.1/2 hr on the sofa yesterday afternoon and then a full 7 hours last night. I think I just slept it off. And all that beauty sleep has to do me good.

Actually I do look rested this morning. Also I am making a determined effort to drink more water and I think it shows. My skin does look "plumper" and has quite a healthy looking glow.

I don't know when it was on because I had set the whole series to record. It's called "The Truth About".......a series of investigative journalism looking at various different topics. Last night I watched the one about beauty products. They did all sorts of scientific tests.

    Basically the conclusions were.

    1. Wear sunscreen. ;)

    2. Use retinol, either in over the counter products or if you want really dramatic results then it has be prescription only. I think you need a private prescription.

    3. The best performing moisturiser was Nivea soft. 2nd was Clinique

    4. Budget range skin care, foundations, blushers, lipsticks etc performed as well as the more expensive ranges.

    5. Mascaras and eye shadows were better in the more top end price bracket.

However, they didn't take things like allergies into account, it was all based on actual performance, purely which products did the best job. It was interesting.

And I guess it just illustrates that it's often trial and error, finding out which suits us best.

But the message was loud and clear, Caveat Emptor. The marketing of beauty products is definitely all smoke and mirrors, advertising, packaging etc.

What they are selling is dreams.....

So.........We need to shop wisely and use a bit of common sense and not be taken in by their blandishments.

It's a hard one to swallow but the truth is that there are no miracle creams, no quick fixes. If we want our skin to look good and "age well" then we have to put in a bit of effort with good skin care routines, protection from the sun, no smoking, plenty of sleep and a healthy diet.

Yes make up is fun, I wouldn't want to have to be without it. It can work minor miracles, it can enhance our good bits and detract from imperfections (I speak from experience with my birthmark). It can make us look and feel beautiful and glamorous and subsequently feel good ourselves.

But......we need to be realistic it won't reverse the ravages of time, sun damage, smoking, stress lack of sleep and overall neglect. Only good skin care and TLC will do that.

Wednesday.....I love autumn too. Love the gentle sun and the overall golden light quality. Season of mist and mellow fruitfulness and all that. :D

Candy.....you are wise to just concentrate on getting well and strong again. Not long now till your holiday. I'm sure it will do you the power of good.

Acupuncture today. And then hopefully potter in the garden. Cut the grass and a bit of tidying up.

Thanks for the heads up on products LL. I think we all know that there's a lot of hype around marketing but it's always good to read genuine reviews. I'm conscious that my moisturiser is very expensive but having had a reaction (streaming eyes mainly) to other brands I know this one suits me so I'm consciously paying the price IYSWIM. The same thing is true of the Clarins serum. BUT.....

I am open to cutting back on cost and I'll definitely try the Nivea soft. I don't mind buying a cheap moisturiser as if it doesn't suit my face I can always use it up on my hands and feet. When things return to normal I'll go back to using the flaxseed oil as a serum too like humpty suggested. The oil takes too long to soak in for every day use but it's fine for days when you're not in a hurry to get out of the door.

Definitely in the closing stages with the bathroom now:D. The basin and WC are operational but we haven't used them as the door has been removed.:o They took it off to lay the flooring/paint etc. We have original panelled doors throughout the house and had them stripped years ago. DH has taken the opportunity to sand and feed this one before putting it back. It looks great so he plans to work round the other internal doors in turn and refresh them.

DH is so pleased with the bathroom refurb that he's enthused to do more to get our home as we'd like it. That's included filling up many bags for the CS.:T I'm hoping this enthusiasm lasts. ;)

I've got a quiet day today. I haven't decided what to do. I know I haven't read a book for weeks so that's an option and then there's ironing.....:(
