LL & Wednesday - whose facial peels are you using please? My skin is in fairly good condition but looking a bit dull due to winter and central heating and could do with a bit of treatment other than moisturisingSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

My dresses fit really nicely
I finally got a nice long soak in the tub today now that our heating system has been seen to and sorted!
Picked up some hot oil hair treatments today, will give one a go in the morning x0 -
I think it was Chanie on here who gave the great tip about cleaning your face straight away when you get home each day.
I'm finding that to work very well as I don't have that nagging feeling in the evening that I have something to do.:TLL & Wednesday - whose facial peels are you using please? I use the Skyn Iceland - Nordic Skin Peel one. It's a little pot with what looks like about 15/20 pads in there and you take one pad and rub over your face each day after cleansing.
It smells strongly of alcohol so I was afraid it would sting but it didn't.
It's quite expensive - £39 from Amazon, but I was quite impressed when I used it today. My skin looked tightened up and also like my skin went a more even colour without any redness on my cheeks.
LL would probably know more about peels in general as she knows about beauty products.:)0 -
Skin peels
Skin peels come in several strengths. I used Boots No 7 Glycolic Skin Peel Kit - currently £25, and on offer as part of their 3 for 2 deals.
It is a 10 percent solution and very safe for home use as long as you follow some basic safety guidelines. Do not be distracted and use it when you can concentrate solely on what you are doing.
I suggest this as a late afternoon, early evening treatment when you are staying in for the evening so you can rest your skin.
I would recommend you use as a 4 week course and then rest your skin.
1. It says apply with a cotton wool pad. Not necessary, it comes as a gel so you can use your fingers. The product will go further and you get a better idea of how well you are spreading it. Avoid the eyes and mouth.
2. It's a 3 step procedure. Follow to the letter, timings are essential so do not wing it and do pay attention to what you are doing.
I would suggest you leave the acid on for no more than 5 minutes to begin with. It says 10 but I think that's too long until you know how you skin will respond. You can build up slowly but again I would err on the side of caution. So far I have never gone over 7 minutes but then I do have sensitive skin so am always extra careful.
3. Do NOT omit step 2, the neutraliser. It's critical. And apply generously. I apply neutraliser twice. If you don't remove all the acid it will continue working (just like perming solution or hair colour it has to be neutralised)
4. The acid comes in little vials. You do not need to use a whole vial.
5. Apply acid and then wash hands immediately.
6. Then follow steps 2 and 3.
7. You may need extra moisturiser. Apply calming serum (step 3). Wait 30 minutes and then apply your own moisturiser.
8. Then leave skin alone for at least 12 hours. No make up, stay out of the sun.
9. Use no more than 2 a week and not on consecutive days. Do not combine with other treatments such as face masks.
10. No roasting in the sun, use adequate sunscreen.
Personally I would not use prior to a holiday. I would allow 2 weeks. I would also suggest you do not use at the same time as using any retinol products.
You can now buy cleansing pads etc containing glycolic acid. Do not confuse these with skin peeling kits. The kits are stronger. Do not use together. The kit alone will be quite enough.
I have not tried any glycolic cleansers or pads so cannot comment but it is something I would consider later when I've finished the course of skin peels.
I hope I don't make skin peels sound unduly complicated or scary. Home skin peels are simple and effective. Used properly they are perfectly safe.
But, as I say, just concentrate, don't get distracted and when it comes to timings I would err on the side of caution. You can always build up the timings in 30 second increments with each treatment.0 -

Glad you got your boiler sorted.......being without hot water is miserable. I know I spent a small fortune on my new bathroom but it was worth every penny.
Tepid showers in a freezing cold bathroom are not my idea of fun. You can't beat a nice soak in the tub..

Maman......interesting that upcycling is beginning to catch on more now. It's the same with homewares too.
I have aways been quite creative. I began my love affair with charity shops when I was around 14 and first learned to sew. What started out as a matter of necessity became an all engrossing hobby, extending to clothing, furnishings and house renovations.
I made my first evening dress when I was 16 and although I say so myself it was gorgeous. And although I didn't make it myself I designed my first wedding dress. I just sketched it out and a lovely dressmaker made up the design for me.
I got out of the habit of dressmaking I think because I had boys. If I had had daughters I might have continued. But then clothes got cheaper and I turned my attention to furniture renovation.
I have just recently bought myself a couple of books on shoe decoration and embellishment. I used to be a devil for dyeing shoes and decorating them but again haven't done it for years. I thought I would give it another go.
I think customising clothes is fun and I think it's great that people are starting to think a bit more about reusing and upcycling.
There is so much waste in the West, it really is quite shameful and fast fashion has a lot to answer for. However, I think people are starting to think a bit more deeply about these issues.
I went to my eldest sons yesterday and they had recorded the Marie Kondo programmes. Watched a couple of episodes. The amount of stuff the people had was unbelievable, especially clothing. They made my wardrobe look positively spartan:rotfl:0 -

Great information LL thank you :A. I have this kit and not used it yet, time to get on with it I think.
I use a daily liquid glycolic toner (much milder) and there are some great peel pads on the market that are not too pricey (especially when on offer) Avon, First Aid Beauty, Nip & Fap Extreme Pads, Superdrug Naturally Radiant. I holiday in the UK (a lot:D) and find these really easy to have in the caravan, nothing to spill. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Thanks for all the tips! I just looked at the Superdrug natrually radiant range and it's all half price at the mo so the peel is less than £3! I'm going to pick some up and will consider some of the other things as a lot cheaper than boots no7. If I don't notice a difference I'll try the kit LL recommended from there
I had a massage and bikini wax last nightI'm off to the doctors later to have a coil put in so guess I won't want to do much tonight. I've booked a body balance class for late evening so will see how I feel. Before bed I think I'll put on some of my body shop seaweed clay mask as I e got spots around my mouth. It's pretty gross as when it dries you can see all your pores as it draws any spots up to a head so they clear quicker. I put it on with a cheap make up brush to make it last longer

Thank you so much for the good clear information on the peels LL. I've got a pack of the glycolic masks, they seem fairly gentle so I'll use them first & see how I go. I generally use a retinol moisturiser but I'll stick with my Aldi one when I do any treatments
I bought some self tan yesterday - it was a cheapie but I did smell it first lol! Doesn't seem too bad so I'll give it a try over the weekend.
SSD - glad your dresses fitted you! I bought some plimsolls in Aldi last night that were reduced (I'm on a roll!) I don't usually buy any of their shoes as the ladies only go to a 7 and I'm a UK 7 1/2 or a continental 41. I was on my way to yoga so tried them on with my socks and they're fine. I like your idea of embellishing shoes LL. Shoes are my weakness and I've got a pair of red high top Converse trainers that I bought in the US that are crying out to be customised!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Clippy.....last week the boots kit was on offer at £15. :rotfl:
And the kit is enough to do at least 8 treatments, so actually not as expensive as it seems. I've done 4 and I reckon i have used less than a third of the product.0
