The frustrating thing was it took 2 years before they would put her on levothyroxine as they kept saying her reading was just within recommended levels but apparently in many other countries she would have started treatment 2 years earlier.
That must have been very frustrating for both of you.
I read exactly the same thing about the different way thyroid levels are measured in other countries. I even contacted Thyroid UK and they sent me a list of private thyroid doctors in case I wanted to get tested privately.0 -
Good morning lovely ladies
Right today I mean business. I have been very lax on the exercise front. Today I need to get my act together..... I don't know why I fall off the wagon when it comes to exercise because I really do feel so much better when I make the effort, especially with yoga or Pilates.
No more excuses - in the words of Nike - "]ust Do It".
Yesterday I listened to a motivational video by Arnold Schwarzeneggar. Now whatever we may think of his acting abilities (:rotfl: bless him) he is certainly a self made motivated person who has lived a remarkable life and who, by his own grit and determination, has carved out several successful careers. 7 times world body building champion, movie star, businessman and governor of California.
And, as SUgarbaby says, exercise can transform our bodies.
In the past I have lost inches and gained muscle. I need to do that again. I need to build up muscle strength to protect me against the ravages of age and osteoarthritis, need to build up bone density and increase my suppleness and flexibility. I can feel myself stiffening up..... I really feel it when I try to do any gardening.
So today I draw a line in the sand and start again.
Yet again.........:rotfl:0 -
Morning All
I had a terrible eating evening yesterday. The day was fine, but last night was terrible.
But as you say LL, I'm drawing a line in the sand and starting again. Weight loss for the long term has these blips.
I don't get 'widow stuff' but I'm separated and every now and then feel the sadness and loss of that. It probably doesn't help that I'm still in contact with my ex, but there are some things that I do really like about him (the of him is an a*se)
Overcast here but not too cold. I've not got much planned, but I do intend to get myself out and buying some of the skin care products so I can give them a go and see what works for me.
I'm lucky that I don't currently take any medication and my parents are in Australia so I don't need to be concerned for them. (the doctors are very on the ball over there and any slight border line result has medication given. I think if/when I start to fall apart, I'll be going back to use their healthcare system!)0 -
I needed a new moisturiser so bought a day and night version in Lidl yesterday. I have to say I think the day one is vile, it has left a sort of white film on my face, remember using zinc and castor oil cream on a baby's bum? It seems to be a similar consistency. They did more than one so I can only assume I chose the wrong one. Good job it only cost £1.69, I'd be hopping mad if it was expensive. Going into town later so might have a look in Superdrug.
It is a bit grey here but dry and fairly warm, let's hope it picks up later.0 -
LL re exercise, whilst losing a bit of weight by body shape has changed so much and that’s purely down to toning. It’s something I’ve done intermittently since my Thirties and I feel so much better when I get back into it. Determined to keep at it now because, as you say, this body has to last us a very long time so we need to care for it.
Pilates and yoga, ah, so very good for strength, flexibility and balance, why do I hate them so much. I can really feel the benefit when I do them but fell off the wagon a month ago. Does anyone have any tips for good dvds? 7 ages of yoga I have but she goes too fast lol. And Pilates for dummies but am bored of it now. Need a firm push here, my bod is not in bad nick for my age and am determined to keep it that way as I age0 -
Just a quickie......
Humpty some of the cheaper creams can be a bit gloopy....you can use it up on your feet, knees, elbows so not wasted. It really is trial and error.
Frankie......you don't have to be a widow to suffer grief and loss. Of course you miss your X, it's perfectly natural, you remember good times and mourn their passing.
One of my closest friends, a widow of 11 years standing, has just met Mr Right Again. I am very happy for her but I would be lying if I didn't admit to just a slight twinge of envy at her new found happiness. I'm only human. :rotfl:
My DIL asked me if I wanted to meet someone, and would I prefer just a friend or someone special. I answered her quite truthfully saying that everyone wants to have someone special in their lives.....:D but if that's not possible then I would be happy enough with just a nice male friend.
It's a tough one........where does one find a nice partner when one is no longer in the full bloom of youth.
Perhaps I need to go husband shopping........problem is I don't know of any nice "husband shops" :rotfl:
First things first.......lose weight, get fit and healthy and say my final goodbyes to The Frump.0 -

I really love a lot of his films.:D My brother really likes him too. I read his autobiography and it was fascinating. He lived not far from me in east London at one point in his younger life!2025 GOALS

I was thinking about what Humpty said about her daughter and I went to the GP this morning and he has given me thyroid medication.
I have to go and pick it up from the pharmacy in a minute. It's free on the NHS if you have hypothyroidism.
I am going to go to the post office to send off the work form to get the £250 back for my Chinese herbalist treatment.
I like getting things for free. Makes a change from all the bills I have had lately!:rotfl:2025 GOALS

Me too, I love him. I do quite a good vocal impression apparently. :rotfl: I read his autobiography. Amazing achievements.
Well I have done all my exercises, and I have just had a good sort out of all my toiletries, cosmetics etc. I have filled a handy basket which I can carry into the sitting room so I can slather and beautify whilst I watch TV. Multi tasking at its best.
It's ok I live alone so I'm not upsetting anyone. :rotfl:
Apparently Angelina Jolie spends hours moisturising her body whilst watching TV.
Lunch, then blitz the kitchen, whilst cooking a nice supper. Then later I will give myself a facial peel, manicure, pedicure and paint my nails, read my book and watch a nice film.
No gardening today, it's bright and sunny but a very cold wind.
Wednesday.....let's hope the thyroid medicine helps.0 -
Wednesday, if the doctor has given you a prescription he must be pretty sure you need it as they seem to be pretty strict about it. I hope you get a great result, I know my DD has done really well on it and of course we aren't all the same but if you need it you need it. Yes the free prescriptions are a bonus and all your prescriptions are free, well they are for DD she has a card that shows she is entitled to free prescriptions. I think she said she had to ask for it at the pharmacy not the doctor's. I'm not sure why you get all prescriptions free but it could be a useful money saver.0
