  • Items not collected by freeglers or sold on FB have been put onto Nextdoor as sale or free, if they do not go this time will have to send to CS or tip. Bought a walking m/c but it is in my bedroom so out of site and use morning and bedtime - only 100 slides/steps but that is better than nothing and need to get legs exercised. Also bought spiralizer as finding it difficult to use small one and freegles a midway one I found difficult to use. Old diffusers binned and 2 new ones in bedrooms and used 2 old bottles to make 4 out of the 2 new ones. Old TV/video binned and sorted some computer cd back ups or software well out of date and binned. Bought new bras that can be pulled on as finding difficult to do up at back so old ones either CS rubbish, even try to sell some of the new ones never worn.

  • Hello everyone!

MadamMim - Sending hugs xx I was a home carer about 5 years ago and loved working with the people I cared for but hated the office. I was told not to bond with them, to call them customers, not to have general chats about things and not to get attached! So basically go into someones elses house and be a robot! No thanks! One of the ladies I looked after I would always stay longer and have some dinner with her and watch the case and would take her up to bingo once a month she was such a lovely lady. I find that a lot of the upper management either haven't done the job or haven't done it for so long they have forgotton how to care.

So Kondo'd my clothes yesterday. I actually had soooo many my bed (king size) was overflowing with clothes. Was hard at first with the spark joy but I got there in the end. As silly as it sounds thanking my clothes was actually a really helpful way to get rid of them. I managed to sell a whole bundle of clothes on FB for £25 and delivering to the lady tomorrow and she is paying an extra £5 for fuel money :D
I hung all my clothes up that needed hanging and just have the folding to do now. Not gonna lie the bits that need folding are all over the floor and I slept with some still in the bed :o:eek: Have turned the hangers on everything (except work clothes) and anything that hasn't been used for 6 months will be gone on the next purge!

Next on the list is my sons clothes and he has masses of them! he must have about 20 pairs of jeans. What 2 year old needs that many jeans?!?! I only have 1 pair!! haha

Also got rid of some more rubbish and bits from the kitchen. It's such a positive experience. And I feel so much better now that my table is clear. I'm enjoying meal times up the table with my DS and he is too. He's been asking lots of questions and what things are which is really nice :D and it's helping my mental health a lot too (I know I keep saying this but I didn't realise how much the clutter was getting me down as well) I actually sat in my living room the other day and felt happy. When I walk into the house and see how clean and tidy it is in there I don't mind the toys and I feel more at peace (again sorry if this sounds odd or I keep going on haha)

    C xx

It is called the 20-20 rule and you use it if you are dithering over decluttering an item. If the item can be replaced for under $20 and in under 20 minutes you declutter it.

    I really like that one!

I finally got a car load to the charity shop yesterday. All the glass bowls we filled with sweets for our wedding - cost me a small fortune to buy from charity shops in the first place but no takers when I tried to sell them on FB and I wanted them gone. Also the weights from the spare room, plus some bits and bobs.

I'm sure we'll find more things to get rid of as we pack this week! I know the leftover bits of wrapping paper are all going, and our landline phones which don't work properly anyway.

When we moved from the big house to here I think I chucked about 2/3 of the stuff in the house (I didn't skip it all, some went to various charity shops/requests and on freecycle). I told the HT if he missed anything in the first 6 months I would buy it him again brand new. He didn't miss anything. I wish I hadn't got rid of some of my books but there was nowhere for them to go so no point dwelling on it.

Just a few things these last few days :-

56 wool stash used to make a hat for a friend - posted
57&58 2 bags of sweets out of the drawer posted with above hat
59 wool stash used to make a trauma teddy
    60 & 61 2 slimming world magazines to friend
62 1 slimming world cook book sold to lady in the post office

I need to put some more stuff on ebay. I might make a "half an hour a day rule" and see if I can get rid of some more. It's too good to throw away - the HT's old Playmobil stuff for instance.....
  • Although this is only my second post of this year, I love reading how everyone is getting on - it is very encouraging. I've been having spurts of decluttering so far this year and as this has been the first free weekend for a while, I have managed to get a lot of things out of the house and to the cs.
    10 books to phonebox library
    35 items of clothing
6 single duvet covers and sheets
2 sets broken fairy lights binned
10 balls wool, bag and needles
    152 books from DD1

    Total 215/2019

DD1 loves reading and has collected books since she was tiny. Now at uni, she had a sort out and got rid of the children's and teen's books. She can now see what is left on the bookshelves as they are not doubled up anymore. The cs was delighted thankfully.

GreenQueen, I'm really sorry for the loss of your Dad. My mother-in-law also died last Friday. She had very little clutter, but we still can't find anything! No idea where she has hidden things.

    Afternoon, folks :)

DH and I decluttered the entire bulkhead cupboard in the little bedroom this afternoon  There were hundreds of old craft magazines in there, half filled 14 bin bags (too much weight to fill them properly!), so just counting them as 7 full bags. It felt sinful throwing the magazines away, I ought to have given them away to interested people over the years! Also went through a carrier bag of pens/pencils/crayons that we found up there, half a carrier bag chucked, small food bag filled with pencils (writing and colouring) to go with DD to school on Monday for her class.

Last night I also decluttered 1/2 a bottle of blackberry wine that's been in the fridge for a week, so the bottle's in the glass box now! :rotfl:

140-146 Equivalent of 7 bing bags to the tip
147 Small bag of pencils to school
    148 Empty wine bottle

I’ve been decluttering the freezer and pantry, the joy of end of the month cooking!
I’ve tackled one side of drawers in our desk, kept the important bits and got rid of loads of random bits of paper.

Decluttering some cider now as a reward ;)
  • Today I rolled up my sleeves and went into the boys wardrobes. Oh my goodness. Between clothes too small and unused toys the charity shop will be receiving 4 large bin bags on Monday.
I’m feeling inspired to do the girls wardrobes Tomorrow.
    On a mission!
