  • Finally took a bag of OOD medicines to the pharmacy at work for disposal that have been looking at me for a good week! The pharmacist seemed a bit nonplussed when I forst said what I was there for, but I said to him ‘well I didn’t want to just throw them inthe bin’! I do work at a univeristy though, so maybe they don’t get many students handing in OOD medicines!

The NHS actually tells people to take old meds to the pharmacist and states the pharmacist has to take them. Yet every time I have done this the pharmacist has either seemed completely confused or clearly didn't want to take them.

I just wanted to share a decluttering rule I saw online that I think is really useful. You may all know it already, but it was new to me. It is called the 20-20 rule and you use it if you are dithering over decluttering an item. If the item can be replaced for under $20 and in under 20 minutes you declutter it. It makes me think of all the times I have spent ages dithering over decluttering some mugs that could be bought from my local supermarket for a couple of quid!

Parsniphead, I am totally with you on that one. Been there myself. Any win however small is an achievement so well done for your sucesses today:T

Hermia I haven't heard of the 20:20 rule but is seems sensible to me. I will test it on my next purge.

Last night I was forced into sorting out my DD room so my MiL could sleep in it. I had pile of bags and boxes but I got it tidy in half an hour. I got rid of a few boxes and I found a bag of disposable wine glasses. They were used and unwashed. I kept from a wedding last year. I do not love them, I never washed them and I don't think I will ever use them again. I still kept them.:o

I am going to go upstairs and empty the bins right now and take those glasses and chuck them in the bin. Thanks for your inspiration folks.

Today I got rid of two books to work and a book to a niece in law. Not much else but there are 7 bags to go to charity shops in the hall.

  • Nothing much decluttered except for a few tears of frustration over a work situation.
I understand that they think they are doing the right thing, except to me it’s ill thought out and it will be MY residents (& their families/friends/loved ones) that suffer the consequences.
To me the upper upper management, many whom have never even contemplated doing what I do, should not be able to simply implement things without fully investigating and seeing what there decision will truely mean. Red tape, stuff and nonsense seem to have overtaken common sense!
My colleagues are also up in arms about its effects yet we’ve basically been told we are to put up and shut up.. as its happening..
We had a terrible shift today with unsettled and upset residents. Makes my blood boil..
Must stop as I can feel myself getting upset again.

I also want to say I am very proud of where I work, it is one of the best care homes in my area, those that work within its walls are dedicated to what they do, I am simply frustrated at management who make decisions without real thought..
Us girls & guys will continue to care regardless of the new directives and it although it may make our job much harder, we wont let it lessen our standards. I personally will just keep documenting the reasons they have made a mistake and prove to them they should reconsider..

Oooh sorry that was a real waffle.. thanks for listening I think I needed an offload.. I guess it was also a decluttering.. of stress ;)

Friday & yippee I have finished sorting the crate :j:T A few bits into CS bag, some shredding & recycling. I have two box files of stuff that I am not quite ready to deal with  I have taken my time - reading jokes, reminiscing about past holidays & weddings attended :D Drumroll please ................. I also found the very first article I ever read about decluttering :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: dated 6th October 1999 - yes, almost 20 years ago :rotfl: There is nothing new under the sun :rotfl: DH has been sorting his office out - so has loads of shredding & recycling stacked up but I will not be counting until out of his office :D DSis has done her washing & drying & a quick trip to MrA to exchange a thermal top for the correct size :D

165 - 166 Two small cardboard boxes from DH - dismantled & recycled
    167 - 169 Three delivery boxes from garage - dismantled & recycled
170 - Shredding 0.5” pile of personal paperwork
171 - 172 Two inch pile of brochures, leaflets etc - recycled
173 - 176 CS bag - Three bits of card crafting materials, Riverdance programme

Tomorrow I will start on the last box in the spare room. Again I will take my time :D Then I will revisit the extra large wall unit & this time I will be brutal :rotfl: Hopefully DH will finally finish the last cleaning/tidying in the bathroom ;)

    Cheerleading starts here :)

You have really taken hold of the ‘Decluttering Bug’ :rotfl: What an excellent word CATHARTIC :T - you are absolutely correct Cheapskate :D decluttering is cathartic :D

Happy Kitties, yes it might be slowly but it is getting there :D

Bargainhunterss, well done on the OOD medicines. Strange thing is that your pharmacist isn’t the only one who was nonplussed - mine was too :) & it seems Hermia has met with the same reaction - how very odd

Hermia, I must have missed that one :p but it does seem eminently sensible :D

somerandom, :T keeping the numbers moving :T

chupachups4, wow - that is a lot of shredding :j did your shredder need plenty of rest :rotfl:

bit by bit, wow that is a lot of bags for the CS :T Could you bring yourself to wash those glasses - might be a nice addition to the cs bags ;)

MadamMim2013, upper upper management seem to take a perverse pleasure in making lives difficult  Could you get a petitition up with staff, residents & their families & go to your MP? It is only through dedicated people like yourself that the system keeps working. I do not envy you one jot - I would probably end up either killing someone or having an aneurism  So feel free to vent, after all this is a decluttering thread - but we don’t want to be decluttering people  just stress & carp :rotfl:

Excellent idea bargainhunterss :T Declutter Management :T

ScarletRibbons, Well Done on sending the items & fingers crossed that you will receive mega pennies :D

Well done Marpau :T that is a massive number of items decluttered :T. LMAO - Decluttering grandchildren indeed - even if it is only for a few hours :rotfl:

never too old - what a lovely gift :j

Parsniphead, feeling grotty & still decluttering - I admire your fortitude :T :D

May we all be infected with the ‘Decluttering Bug’ :rotfl:
