  • Thank you all for your kind wishes.

It's about an hour and a half drive each way, so I'm having to schedule things rather than just popping around as needed. I'd does help to know that other people have been through the same issues. As they say, there's nothing new under the sun.

I have a few friends who have lost a parent or parent-in-law in the last 12 months - suppose it goes with the age-group.

  • Sorry for your loss Green Queen. If you don't feel like tackling the decluttering then give yourself a break until you're ready again. It'll still be there.

I watched the first episode of the Marie Kondo programme last night and was rather horrified to find that the family's home wasn't even that cluttered, especially considering they had two kids. Mine is much, much worse! I'm almost scared to watch another episode

I've been tackling the dining room of doom yesterday and today and it's nearly done. I've realised I have far too many books and far too much kids craft stuff so some of it will have to go but at the moment I'm concentrating on making it tidy. I have shuffled a few bits off to the charity shop pile but when I've got more leisure I'll do a proper cull. Culling books is something I find especially hard.

Thank you for all your cheerleading Mrs SD. You keep us all going. 😀

I've been MIA for a few days - sadly my dad died on Friday, so everything has been up in the air.

No decluttering of my own, but while looking for essential paperwork realised my parents had a HUGE amount of junk, e.g. receipts and cheque book stubs going back to the 1960s. DB and I have been trying to get rid of as much recycling/shredding as possible without upsetting DM. Think it will take some time.

There are a couple of morals for me:
    - I can now see where some of my traits have come from. I really don't want them to develop in the way they have with my parents. I need to act now, so I don't disappear under a pile of waste paper and carp
    - make sure that I tell people where paperwork is, not put it somewhere obvious to me. It may not be as obvious to my loved ones when I'm not there any more.

Deepest condolences, a terrible time. My thoughts are with you.

  • THEY'VE GONE!! All house remodelling is done and dusted. I'm beyond relieved. I've also had almost no issues and the couple I did have were minor and easily resolved. Carpets and cushion flooring laid tomorrow and then I can live again. I actually feel like I have a proper home again.

    Good afternoon,

Busy day today so just a small declutter....

44-55 hair scrunchies, hair bobbles, bun ring, various hair clips to a friend.

My hair is now shorter than my son's and I'm in no hurry to grow it again :rotfl:
  • So sorry for your loss GreenQueen x

Thanks for the warn welcome Mrs SD
I made it out of the bathroom relatively unscathed though a bit achy! It was one of those 'into all the nooks and crannies' cleaning/decluttering jobs and still to sort/ put some bits back in ( once I've gone thrigh them!)

Felt much better that I'd tackled the room though! ( albeit the smallest one of at least 4 areas I need to tackle!)

There are 2 REALLY big jobs and I'll need OH on board which can be a task in itself, the clutter impacts on him less /differently I think. ...although I do think everything feels just lighter and easier when there isn't piles of 'stuff' everywhere ( and in the 'wrong' place). Definitely procrastinating on these 2 big jobs so could either start on the doable ones ( wardrobe, one of the bedrooms, 'the dumping coffee table' for example) or tackle a small bit of these 2 tougher/bigger jobs

Thinking wardrobe/coffee table could be more of a quick win which might motivate me for the rest! :rotfl:

Glad to read that some clutter free lives are going well
I have another bag for the charity shop

still surrounded by boxes etc as our move seems to be taking a lot longer than we hoped - and hubby is buying some bits from the local auction house all stuff that will go lovely in our new 1825 cottage and not the 1960 box we live in now -

hope everyone is doing well in all areas for their lives

GreyQueen I really feel for you nothing seems worse than losing a parent xxx
