  • Been working & out & about for the last couple of days (& will be tomorrow) so no items to add but I have taken all of the stuff I've decluttered to the charity shop (& various recycling places) - feels wonderful to have it out of the house.

My neighbour, who is also decluttering at the moment, gave me a lovely wicker basket which I have used to store towels at the bottom of my wardrobe - there were so many in the towel drawer it was hard to open & close.

Ooooooh & I arranged for an old sofa to be collected on Friday :j

Just consigned a pile of magazines to the recycling bag & added another three items to the CS bag. I seem to be getting more momentum up seeing a cleared space.
I also tidied away a heap of things that were cluttering the car & had been dumped in bags in the hall.

How are people feeling on their decluttering journey? Anyone feeling different now to when they started? Anyone uncovered any lost treasures?

Yes! I sorted the sock drawer yesterday and found £40 tucked away in an unopened pack of tights :j
I was pleased that I was faffing about when I found my treasure, and made sure I checked everything extra carefully after that!

Bag to the charity shop today, along with a bag of rags, an unwanted tv and a tip run.

I decluttered a kitchen cupboard last night whilst cooking dinner, and left the things I don’t want on the side for binning. OH came home from work and when he dried the washing up, put it all back  Will try again this eve lol!

Oh dear beshki :wall: that's why it's a great idea to get it out the house asap, here's hoping your next attempt is more successful

Things are progressing slowly but surely. OH took several bags to the CD and is listing some stuff on ebay. I'm fluttering several areas and have sorted my 3 drawers of socks, underwear and swimwear/nightwear. It is now neatly Kondo folded! :j:j:j

This weekend youngest DS is moving into his sister's room (she's away until Easter) and I've promised he can redecorate...if we tidy! So plan will be to Kondo his room. Start has been made on toys and books so it will be mainly clothes and looking at the layout.

  • Still can't do any decluttering, but the trades people will all be finished by early tomorrow afternoon <Biggest sigh of relief I can muster> I am having all the flooring fitted Thursday afternoon so not much really happening until Friday. As I put things back I will go through bags and boxes and be ruthless.

I have ordered new bedroom furniture and the wardrobe is huge with loads of storage, so my bedroom will be last to be done, it will be worth it as it will add so much more storage to what I have now. Also the new sun room will give more too. However, I know me too well and I'm going to have to be strict and even after the third major declutter in as many years still keep on top of it. (declutters due to two house moves to downsize).

I don't think I have any hoarding tendencies at all, I do think I worry and save for Justin - well Justin is going to have to move out as I'm not giving s/he houseroom any more either. :rotfl:

  • Hello everyone,

Hermia - I've heard that too if you don't loose something for 12 months then you probably won't. I have kitchen gadgets I've not used for ages but just taking up space in my cupboards so I think they will be the next thing I declutter!

Leelad - glad your DW is getting used to the decluttering :)

Not done much decluttering the last few days, have started reading the Marie Kondo book though :)

  • Hello everyone,

Hermia - I've heard that too if you don't loose something for 12 months then you probably won't.

In my case this is so very true. When I downsized from the family home, I hadn't been in the shed in years. I employed a man with a van to empty and dispose. I've never missed a single thing. I also did the same thing at my last house. The only thing I can actually remember that was in that shed was a treadmill, and I suspect that is simply due to its size more than anything else.

When I declutter this time, anything (except my memento box) that has not been looked at or used since I moved here is going. I truly can't see me needing something I haven't needed in a year as I have a pretty routine life.

Good luck decluttering, we WILL get there!

  • 1. SMALL TASKS WILL BE DONE ASAP
    2. I WILL LEAVE A ROOM TIDIER THAN WHEN I ENTERED
    3. KITCHEN WILL BE LEFT CLEAN & TIDY EVERY NIGHT
    4. WHEN DEALING WITH CLUTTER I WILL USE ‘Daisy1571’s idea of ‘WHAT WOULD I DO WITH THIS ITEM IF IT WAS SOMEONE ELSE’S ?’
    5. IF I WAS STARTING FROM SCRATCH, WOULD I BUY THIS?
    6. BE LIKE A POSTAGE STAMP - STICK TO ONE THING UNTIL YOU GET THERE

I redeemed myself today by getting up before 9:30 a.m.:j Spent a couple of hours in peace & quiet pootling around before taking hot drinks upstairs to DH & DSis just before noon :D :rotfl:
My F*tb*t is happy again :rotfl: DH & I had hm soup & hm croutons for lunch. I raided the freezer again - so tonight’s dinner was savoury mince with a jar of hm cottage pie gravy & a can of butter beans added - heated in the oven plus mash & green beans - plates licked clean :rotfl:
I have started on one of the crates in the spare room - found loads of old work appraisals  Read through - nice to be reminded how good I was :rotfl: then shredded. Also found loads of leaflets, brochures & maps from our trip to New Zealand - almost 13 years ago - so am looking through them & reminiscing & then they will be consigned to the recycling bin :)

118 One inch of personal papers - shredded & binned
    119 - 120 Glass jar & metal lid - washed & recycled
121 - 123 Three inches of New Zealand paperwork - recycled
124 - 126 An A4 photo frame, an Oval 6 in 1 Photo Frame still in its box, small blue fluffy ball with google eyes - CS bag

So tomorrow I will continue with the crate but might not finish as DH & I have appointments at the dentist. However at least I have finally started :rotfl:

    Cheerleading starts here :)

Ginmonster, surprising how effective visitors are in encouraging a decluttering surge :rotfl: Perhaps I should consider inviting people round ..... hmm ... maybe not :rotfl: Well Done - mmm maybe I should reconsider my stance on visitors :rotfl:

chupachups4, well done - more items out & more money in :T

CAFCGirl, good numbers going out :T I have found a carved wooden picture (I had forgotten about) which I will decide where to hang & a certificate showing a large donation to WaterAid from a fundraising event I organised in memory of my DM. Way to go White_musk :T :rotfl: re the mention of Justin - the papers I shredded today ranged from 17 years old to 8 years old  I have been retired almost 8 years :rotfl: & have absolutely no idea why I kept them :rotfl:

Wednesday2000, your clothing should flatter you & make you feel good :D - so well done on dispatching an item that does neither :T Your items seem to be begging to leave your home :rotfl: Well Done :T

Barny1979, slow & steady wins the decluttering race :rotfl:

Beshki, how kind of him :rotfl: Good job the bags were already gone :rotfl::rotfl:

somerandom, it is wonderful to have things ‘fully’ decluttered :T:T:D A large piece of furniture out the door soon as well :T

nannywindows, you definitely have the decluttering bug :rotfl: What was your target ... 365 :rotfl: Now you have to set a new target :rotfl: I need to take my own advice & plan properly & finally get my ‘arris in gear before the end of January :rotfl: You deserve an enormous round of applause :T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T

Chocolatelover93, I think you are decluttering :D You are reading Marie Kondo & decluttering your mind of procrastination :rotfl: You are preparing to do battle with the Clutter :rotfl::T:rotfl:
bit by bit, you are definitely on a roll :rotfl: Well Done :T

Only taken me 3 hours to write this as I keep getting distracted :o

More power to our decluttering mojo :D
