Not input - in our home (predictive text) !
  • I've decluttered 4 nail polishes! I only kept three: a clear one (anti breakage), a nude and a black :D Depending on how I feel I'll get rid of the two "colored" one as well since I rarely wear nail polish in the first place! :D

I'm soon off to the dentist and I feel like I might declutter something there as well: my wisdom tooth that has been bugging me for a week straight :D

    Have a good one, everyone!

Hi I am trying to declutter, have done quite a bit but find it difficult to check how much,my OH and DD's a) say that the house is cluttered
    b) most of it is untidy with their things which they seem unable to put away
    c) the things I do declutter are the things that they are looking for the following week
    D) my mum very kindly gives us nice things, some were her own or she buys ,offer s or charity shops.
She remembers them all and will ask where they are!
So can I join- maybe it will motivate and encourage the decluttering input home
    Welcome, some thought,
re gifts - when a gift is given all rights to the item are transferred with ownership. It’s completely up to you what happens to the gift afterwards. When you mum asks tell her that they are elsewhere at the moment ( even if elsewhere is with another owner), or when she brings you something tell her you are doing ‘one in, one out’ and ask her to help you choose what is to leave the house as she leaves. Also things break, wear out, etc, in this, instance a little white lie is allowable.

As for your significant others things, box them up and pop them in the garage (or other awkward out of sight space) and when they want something they can go and collect it. They will soon learn. It isn’t recommended to declutter other people items, concentrate on yourself and leading by example. Their mess and clutter can be contained but they need to be the ones who declutter it or they learn nothing. And many arguments can ensue when you declutter someone else’s stuff.

Good luck, it can be done

Having been so good in getting up at a reasonable time over the last few days, I ‘slipped’ today & didn’t get up until 11:40 - shame on me :o It is quite sunny but there are clouds lurking  & it is definitely getting cooler :( Yesterday my lovely DH sharpened & repaired a couple of garden shears/loppers for a neighbour. She was so pleased & brought round a card this a.m. (DH having refused the offer of a tipple or chocs :A) DH has just gone to sm on the Harley & DSis is stillin her room - can’t hear snoring so maybe she is awake ;)

:hello: & welcome aboard the Decluttering Bandwagon Catcrazy :D You have already received some excellent suggestions from TamsinC especially the suggestion of boxing up other people’s stuff & putting it out of sight :rotfl: that should concentrate the mind wonderfully :rotfl:
The only other thing I would offer is to create a haven for yourself - somewhere you can go when it all gets too much ;) The important thing is that you have made the decision to declutter :T - now just pile in :rotfl: We are all ‘rooting for you’ & look forward to reading of your successes. Happy decluttering ;)

Good luck at the dentist butterfly2507 :D

    Hello all
I am, with the help of DH, still trying to declutter the garden. We did a tip trip today with part of a large conifer, there is more to go but the tip was manic this morning. It seems everyone had the same idea of getting rid of stuff before the storm hits this area tomorrow. So we will wait till next week for another run but in any case it's all bagged up ready for action :j. There is another "dwarf " conifer ( about 20ft high and only has greenery towards the top ) that needs to get the chop too. We only need to replace some fence panels and it has turned into a major operation . Never mind it's keeping us fit and out of mischief :rotfl:.
Catcrazy I would also gather up the family clutter and let them sort it out at their leisure. As for your Mum could you just put some things out and others in boxes ( for now ) then if she asks tell her that she has bought so many nice things that you are going to rotate them, just to get the best out of each item ;). In any case baby steps are ok if they are going in the right direction :T.
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently

I've spent all afternoon bottoming ALL the kitchen cupboards!!

As a result, I filled a bin bag with loads of OOD food items, really cross with myself for that, including a load of fusty-smelling herbs.

    14 emptied spice jars
2 emptied booze bottles (Mrs SD, we had a gin club membership, so have been finishing the dregs in several bottles!! :rotfl:)
    38 OOD food items
7 random bits of rubbish from cupboards
    5 empty packages into recycling
5 finished up foods (1/2 box fish fingers, 1 fish in parsley sauce, 2 part bags of potato things, 1 tin fruit salad)

71 things out of my house (or into our tummies!)

    Slowly getting there!

    A xo

    15 paperwork recycled
    1 old plastic bottle recycled
    1 old cardboard box recycled

    Today's total 17

Friend came to visit this morning and said the place feels better. At last I'm starting to see a difference too - hopefully the snowball is at the top of the hill now.

1646 - took the box to the charity shop, but had already counted all the bits in it so only the box counted.

    1646 - 1666 - general recycling

Very little done today, had the MIL and SIL and nephew come for a visit to see the new living room. And just as they left the builder turned up to chat about our plans so the day was gone maybe more tomorrow.
