So what I am seeing is that what 'to me' is normal recycling - magazines, tins etc - is counted as decluttering for the number thing - or is that only if they have been hanging around for a while? Also for items binned that I would normally count as general rubbish? (this is just going through a few pages at the beginning of the thread) Not sure whether to join in on the numbers or not as well as it is a bit late in the year?

Hi Tamsin! I include stuff that's been lurking for a while and finally been evicted rather than day to day recycling that would go out anyway. For example, if it's a magazine that's 10 years old, moved house with me 3 times and been sold or taken to the charity shop or sold, it definitely counts!

231-232 Cute cardigan sold (kaching!), plus packaging for posting.
233 - 235 items of clothing bagged for charity shop trip on Wednesday.

I'm sure there will be more :D

    Hi

    Firstly, hello Tamsin and welcome

I have had a very busy weekend

    Saturday, BBQ with the family
    Sunday, 8 hours of ironing
Today, lunch with SD and GS then another tidy up at home whilst the hubbies were playing golf

Thank goodness it is bin day tomorrow as we have been on a mission

813 Turkey carcass from Christmas, it went in the freezer to make a stock and soup but as it is still there it has now gone into food waste recycling

814 Front door mat long past its best went to the tip

815 Mop long past its best went to the tip

816-834 Flower pots out for recycling collection

835-862 Boxes flat packed and out for recycling

863-895 Plastic bags out for recycling

    896-905 Broken hangers to bin

Outside our house is 6 normal rubbish bags, 9 recycling bags, a totally full garden and food waste recycling bin and a full glass recycling box

A neighbour asked if we were moving :rotfl:

Have a good week, off to bed now as early start in the morning.

    Gilly x

BH Monday has been an odd day weather wise - some sun, lots of clouds & a really strong wind. All in all a perfect day for washing & drying :rotfl: so 4 loads washed, line dried, folded & put away :D Now have 2 completely empty laundry bags :T DH did a bit of tidying in the garage, identified the unknown plants - either mustard or rapeseed plants - compliments of bird seed  DH dug out 18 plants & we have left 2 :rotfl: The bulbs we planted now have a fighting chance at flowering :rotfl: There is a 2nd flower on the freesia :rotfl: The bees are still only concentrating on the one bush :rotfl: & I saw 2 ladybirds on our front garden hedge as I was doing a little light pruning. Vacuumed all downstairs including moving the furniture ;) Salmon sandwiches for lunch & Fish, chips & mixed vegetables for dinner.

1645 - 1646 Empty beer can, cardboard packaging - Recycled
1647 Bag of kitchen detritus - Binned

Well Done - parsniphead; gilly1964; bit by bit (Nice to see you & pleased that you had a good holiday :D once more into the breech :rotfl:); villagelife; short_bird - :T

TamsinC, if you decide to go the numbers route then you just need to pro rata :D You can count day to day decluttering as if you didn’t do it, it would be tomorrow’s clutter :rotfl: I hope you have taken up the carpet :rotfl: The other route you could go is sorting cupboards, drawers or even rooms - for example 7 rooms - completely declutter your bedroom = 1 of 7. Whichever route you choose we are all here cheering you on ;)

    See you all tomorrow

Luckily the carpet, underlay, and the nearly five hundred quarry tiles underneath have already been decluttered - the majority of the underlay and carpet were passed on via a local selling site, some was used to line our crappy outside porch as it was freezing. Some of the tiles have been sold, the rest will either be sold eventually or go to a reclamation yard for slightly less money.

I'll probably use go for numbers with no actual target - it will keep me motivated but with no pressure - I could count grams of dust - we seem create an awful lot [lots of demolition going on as well] - but that would be cheating slightly as there is tonnes of it.:rotfl:

so at the moment I have, for yesterday,
4 bags of plastic recycling - mainly bubble wrap scraps now Morrisons take it - total 4

    Deal All

I feel overwhelmed by my clutter!
Please can i join?. I need to start being accountable to myself.
I have made great inroads in the past, but its all very stop/start and i need to get into a momentum so that eventually my house is streamlined and i can just do maintenance. I read endless blogs, books etc on clutter clearing but its the putting into practice long term thats hard.(plus the amount of time reading about it further delays my progress:eek:! )I have realised my problem area along with momentum is getting the stuff out of the house. I delay with ideas of car booting/ebaying/selling etc . Since i ve never done any of these:rotfl: i plan to donate everything even though i shudder with the money lost.

Ive had a big life event happen a while ago.. which im eventually now accepting and need to move on (too many bad memories in the clutter items)
I dont know whether counting will work for me but would like to regularly post my achievements however small. I have a fabulous DH who has pointed out the possibilities for when we move the junk (although its mine!) such as a little area in our home could be a reading snug and that has given me something to work towards
Hope it will be ok to join :)

Have been MIA for a little while - still decluttering, just haven't posted, life got in the way. The list is probably missing things, it does help to keep track by posting regularly. Here goes...

283-301 clothing items to charity shop/rag bag
    302-306 garden weeds
    307 dust bunnies!
308-310 boxes of fruit from the freezer into tummies
311-315 nearly empty cleaning products finally finished
316 pile of old paper on desk sorted and filed/binned/shredded
317 pile of paper on kitchen table sorted and filed/binned/shredded
318 pile of paper on dining room table sorted and filed/binned/shredded
319 pile of paper in desk at work sorted and filed/binned/shredded (think we have a theme!)

I'm now back on it properly:T

Welcome - I am new too

Money is also lost siting in a pile of clutter not being used - sometimes it can be helpful to think of it this way. Or think of price per use - my daughter has a coat we bought her for sixth form - it was a horrendous cost back then at £100 but part of the uniform and so a must - she still wears it, she has had 8 years of use out of it and now calculates the cost per wear at around 6p and it is still going strong - it is her only coat. Stuff sitting doing nothing or being rarely used is an expensive cost per use - let someone else have the joy of the object. You have already spent the money, it's gone, don't worry about it, let it go. Most of these items don't have a decent resale value anyway - and by the time you take into account the stress, effort and fees of selling stuff you barely make anything. Not worth it in many cases.

Deep breath, it's a marathon not a sprint, and slowly slowly and you will get there.
